Volts hurt amps kill, what happened here (my theory) his left hand was on the NEG terminal of the battery... and I suspect he was pulling the oil dipstick as i think that models auto-dipstick is on the other side as most toyotas of that vintage are.
I'm guessing that the tech inside racked the motor and his body completed a ground out circuit. Meaning his ass took approx 800amps at 12v's and that , while conducting over the skin will knock your ass to the middle of last week.
@aodox 12v cant break the skin otherwise hed be long gone. if his hands were wet that still doesn't lower the skin's electrical resistance low enough. ive never been shocked by a car battery, i do car wiring.
@StoshTech Im betting it was because the thing was cranked, that will shock you.....the huge draw of the starter motor and the ignition system i suspect caused it. Normally, a ca battery won't shock bad at all....
@Thepbatemon, countless technicians have been shocked by spark plug wires I've been hit by 60,000v they carry a lot of voltage but no amperage. Knock your dick in the dirt, yes, kill you? Doubtful unless you have a pacemaker.
This guy needs to man up. I was shocked by my spark plugs while testing my car for spark (it wasn't running at the time, so I went through a few simple causes first), and it felt just like getting the jolt and getting "shocked" by someone or something touching you.

lol. what a puss. i was doing the ol spark plug pull of method the other day to find a misfire and got shocked a few times. worse that will happen is you will yank your hand away
0:36 the funniest part is that his co worker just looks at him on the ground and decides to do nothing but stay seated in the car and take a glance at him every couple of seconds.
@dhamwaistd i vote for both. looks like he did get a bite from a spark plug wire but i have worked in shops since high-school and never have i seen one knock somebody down. i got bit wile standing in a puddle of water once. got a little dizzy and felt like i got kicked in the arm my a mule but its over before you even realize it happened. this guy is just a big pussy.
yeah this is bullshit, notice the gloves he has on, i worked as a lube tech for a long ass time and i have been shocked, it dont do nothing but startle ya, and i have been shocked by the tranny dipstick only because it was a long ass dipstick and i wasnt paying attention when i was checking it and part of it curved down and hit the two battery terminals, human error, my bad, it happens, and all it did was spook me, i cant say what this fools problem is
I'm sure anyone under the age of 20, has no idea what the "Condenser" is, it holds energy, that can easily drop a grown man in a split second. Back in the day, while doing tune ups, it was a pranksters dream to charge one of them and set it out, for an unsuspecting victim, to do, nothing more than pick it up to see what it is....
@OfficerLarryNMSE It's not called a condenser it's called a capacitor. A condenser is part of the A/C which is in front of the radiator which removes the heat from the freon. Now a Capacitor is what your talking about that stores energy which helps start electrical motors.
omg iv been shocked before from the spark plugs and my girl even pissed me off once so i told her to hold the coil wire (dumb bitch ha) and i turned it over 4 times.. pay back from when she thought it was also funny when she did it to me. lol- but it doesn't send you flying back like a little girl, it doesn't even hurt. @ TheEngineProfessor. shut the fuck up lol you sound like a women! disconnect a battery? ok he got shocked when car was running checking the trans..your user name is " TheEngineProfessor" and u post shit like that? come on! thats day one stuff!
I had a big shock when trying to adjust a loose "lamp" inside an old TV, one lamp was lose and picture would disappear. Somehow one part with copper wires was making a blue electric glow. The glass tube would make blue glow as well. When you touch it with screw driver it would make a zip of blue fuzzy glow. It would smell weird, like electricity smell? My finger stuck to it like a strong magnet, but I could pull my finger right away. My arm was shaking after that. 12V shocks are nothing.
@TheEngineProfessor Read to description moron. Any mechanic knows you must check the automatic trans fluid while the vehicle is "running". Therefore the battery has to be hooked up so it will start and run. Try reading a factory service manual instead of Chilton and Haynes romance novels.........
dude... it doesn't hurt that bad. I have been shocked by ignition coils, 120vac, even several thousand volts experimenting with tesla coils and some other various currents with low amps and none of it has done that to me. I have been shocked hundreds of times so maybe I am just used to it. oh and 12vdc can't overcome skin resistance so it won't shock you unless if you put your tongue on it or something.
wow, ive been shocked by 120 volt hundred times and never been knocked on my ass or acted like that. Just jerks your arms back or in some cases you cant let go
@TeNaCiOuSLeGeNd yep, the thing is cars are DC power, and DC hurts alot lol. my buddys and I used to play a drinking game that wasn't the best of ideas. we would get drunk and pull a plug wire and hold on to it for as long as posable.
@sc38converter OMG dude, you must been drunk as fuck to do that lol. Im an electrician and i was almost killed once workin on power lines and ill never forger it. blew me off damn ladder to ground and my coworker thought i was dead. but my shoulder still bothers me somttimes cuz it shot up my arm and across my chest and through other arm
Either burned himself on the exhaust manifold or electrocuted from ignition wires. Fingers caught in cooling fans or belts would happen if the dude was fiddling around the front engine bay on that Toyota Landcruiser.
ok... 12 volts cant exactly hurt you... maybe the sparks can scare you yeah... they have scared the hell out of me before... but that... just no, that would be the reaction of your finger getting hit by the fan or going through a pully maybe
@p174208 Agreed. 12VDC can't shock you, unless you are trying really hard, say putting pos/neg leads on your tongue. But 20,000VDC via the ignition system can. There's not enough current there to harm you, just a get a good jump out of it. Can't tell if the video is staged. Dude probably just over reacted, or it was staged.
12V direct current is alot worse getting shocked by then 110 of alternating current because direct current sends everything at once alternating current fluctuates how the power is sent that is why cars have alternators in the because most accessories on cars can not take direct current and also because of the magnets it recharges the battery
this is bullshit... first off 12v isn't shit... 2nd to ground out the tranny fill tube would mean its live positive 12v and that wouldn't be in a neg grounded car ... he might have found a shorted or cracked plug wire ..
@daddyoca69 The Volts of a battery aren't the issue; it's the current (Amps). Anyone who has any experience with electricity should know the difference. A car battery can produce significant harm to someone; a sustained shock from it can burn you pretty badly.
@SgtMudDawg I know plenty about them... I am a low voltage specialist and my father is a high voltage specialist.. to get shocked from battery power then you would need pos/neg and the car is neg ground and that would mean so is the dipstick... so where did the +12v come from? like I said he must have found a live spark plug wire...
@daddyoca69 i have been hit with a coil wile standing in 3 feet of water. This guy so over exaggerated that shit. yeah getting hit with ignition voltage hurts like hell but i have never seen it knock somebody down like that. i call fake on this one. either that or the guy is in fact a big Girl.
Wat most of you guys dont realise is an injected car can have up to 160 amps running through it. One of my cars run a 320 amp alternator. Its only twelve volt but its the amps that will kill ya.32 amps is enough to kill you if there is enough current. Learn your shit before giving other people shit. And there are no cicruit breakers on cars and no a fuse doesnt do the same thing.
@JPDriftDrag its 12 volts, which is not enough to get through the resistance of the human body... you can touch both posts of a fully charged car batter and nothing happens
he got shocked from the spark plug wires, which is high voltage, but very small amps
@mageac You are wrong. Voltage is arbitrary in this case, you are not even referrring to amperage. 1A of 12v is strong enough to shock a human, in this case he is probably getting shocked with 65A from a standard car battery or alternator. The reason you can grab both terminals of a car battery is because you are not creating a circuit. There is no ground unless you ground your body. Many people DIE from 12v every year if the amperage source is high enough. However this video is fake w/e
@DemoFly actually you are wrond, im a heavy duty mechanic, i often work on live 12v wires that are being fed by 4+ 1000 amp batterys. im still alive and in fact never been shocked
when you grab both terminals, you ARE creating a circuit, thats what a circuit is, one teminal is power, and one is ground.
and this video is real, he gets shocked from the plug wires,, which will easily shock a human, will startle someone, and to a degree will hurt.
@DemoFly perhaps you should study up on electrical theory
you can, with wet hands, touch both battery posts and just BARELY feel anything
hell you can do it with a million amp batter if you like, its still not going to push the amps through the body, you need higher volts to push the amps...
volts is like pressure, amps are like flow, ohms are like the size of the hose, which in your case i would assume is narrow
ya, I agree what a pussy. I have bit by a coil a few times and while it make me jump and gave me a pretty good jolt . It never came to rolling on the ground and acting like i've been shot.
Psh, not that bad, only like 220, thatll toss you off, now for me as an install guy for custom appliances, 110, yeah its a lesser amount, but it holds you onto it and this hurts like a mother fucker. Been there and had the shirt. I was shocked by the ignition coil once, its about 220 ish in volts. Not bad, but does bite ya good.
hahaha what a nancy. i worked at a body shop and as a joke my boss told me to pick up the 220 extension cord for the mig wilder. the end had tape on it but un announced to me their was some wire exposed and i got shocked by that and didnt fall on the floor rolling around like fat seal. lol should probably not take your automotive career further than lube tech lol
@rookerzzz You call someone working at Jiffy Lube a Mechanic?! I don't even call the folks at Jiffy Lube an auto Technician. It takes 30+ years in the automotive industry to become worthy of the title of Mechanic, It takes a skilled person who knows 100 times more than the do it your selfer who still knows 10 times more than a Jiffy Lube employee. If Jiffy Lube employees knew what they were doing, they wouldn't work at a Jiffy Lube.
Some of you guys have no knowledge of physics. Go ahead and do a goggle search for "electrician rubber gloves". Those gloves are the type used to prevent shock... not these.
That's like saying a house fire can be put out with a glass of water, just because "water puts out fire".
gee i guess the term "high supression" on the spark plug wires that happen to be part of the ignition system is there for pure amusment...maybe everyone crying fake won't mind sticking their tongue on a coil wire. not sayin this guy isn't stupid, but if you think those thin ass little black nitrile gloves will stop a shock from a car's ignition system then keep ur opinions to yourself.
This is fake, the guys wearing gloves for one and for two if you get shocked by the ignition system you wouldn't fall on the ground a roll around that long. It's not that big of a deal. At the worst I banged my elbow into the hood or whatever I never have dropped to the ground or anything. FAKE
@yosoyelsupremo yes its fake, I have worked on many cars my whole life, I have been zapped many times and ITS FAKE now would you like to buy some land in florida ? lol
IT FUCKING HURTS LIKE A MOTHER FUCKER!!!!!!! BUT IT SCARES MORE THAN HURTS! I LIKE THE REACTION OF THE OTHER MECHANIC, HE LIKE "GET THE FUCK BACK UP".
What a dumb-ass! You would think he got shot or something. At least now I know where wannabe mechanics go. Insta-lube joints. Never trust any man who doesn't know how to tuck in his shirt either. Insta-lube places are okay if you don't care about your engine. The correct way to change oil is to pull the plug (hot) and let it drain overnight. Change filter, too. I bet some of these morons leave out or overfill oil. Don't trust most of these places. I am a 39 yr. mechanic, so I am qualified.
Hey Boyz ...I've been hit off the Mallory juiceBox coil and didn't exact that responce..and that coil hits with 55,000 volts so this Lame assed Herb has what ? weak DNA
Its funny reading these comments. Ive been working on cars for years and no matter what you believe this is the truth. You will NOT get shocked from 12 or 24 volts even if youre under water. The voltage is much too low for it to pass through your body so you wont feel anything, not even a tingle, zip, nada.
You can get shocked from the ignition system though, it hurts like hell but it doesnt throw you on the floor. Xenon headlights can also shock you.
iv had a belt from an ignition system many times and i didnt fall over, i didnt even lose my footing, it didnt even affect my legs, i just jumped like someone airhorned me... why is he reacting so badly like hes had a tazer shock?
there is NO way in hell that the typical automotive 12V system had the power to knock a full grown man onto his ass. now, if it were a hybrid... different story.
the juice at the starter isnt the volts that get you its the amps that crank it over that he got wacked by he mustve hit the starter bolts with the dipstick and got a nice 700 cranking amps shooting thru himvolts wont kill you but amps will
A magneto will knock you on your ass even if it isn't in an engine if you are holding onto it and you turn the input shaft. Yup I made that mistake 25 years ago or so. Once was enough for me.
Dumbasses!!! You can be shocked with 12v but it won't seriously hurt ya. 9v is enough, take a 9v transistor radio battery and touch both the + and - with your tongue. It will tickle because your tongue is conducting electricity (you are getting shocked). Modern autos have HEI. That is high energy ignition with much hotter spark than the old cars. You can get a nasty shock without any battery. I have had guest playing with my magneto from a performance engine which actually generates electricity.
skip the 37 seconds of boring nothingness and then thank me later.

JPDriftDrag 2 months ago
@JPDriftDrag its 12 volts, which is not enough to get through the resistance of the human body... you can touch both posts of a fully charged car batter and nothing happens
he got shocked from the spark plug wires, which is high voltage, but very small amps
mageac 2 months ago 12
@mageac like he said volts wont kill you it the amps that will im a commercial eletrician that fact is it wouldnt kill him but i bet it did sting
Jvergakis 2 months ago
@mageac You are wrong. Voltage is arbitrary in this case, you are not even referrring to amperage. 1A of 12v is strong enough to shock a human, in this case he is probably getting shocked with 65A from a standard car battery or alternator. The reason you can grab both terminals of a car battery is because you are not creating a circuit. There is no ground unless you ground your body. Many people DIE from 12v every year if the amperage source is high enough. However this video is fake w/e
DemoFly 2 weeks ago
@DemoFly actually you are wrond, im a heavy duty mechanic, i often work on live 12v wires that are being fed by 4+ 1000 amp batterys. im still alive and in fact never been shocked
when you grab both terminals, you ARE creating a circuit, thats what a circuit is, one teminal is power, and one is ground.
and this video is real, he gets shocked from the plug wires,, which will easily shock a human, will startle someone, and to a degree will hurt.
mageac 2 weeks ago
@mageac Naw, you can't even spell wrong correctly and you don't even know how DC currents work. You're not an anything.
DemoFly 2 weeks ago
@DemoFly perhaps you should study up on electrical theory
you can, with wet hands, touch both battery posts and just BARELY feel anything
hell you can do it with a million amp batter if you like, its still not going to push the amps through the body, you need higher volts to push the amps...
volts is like pressure, amps are like flow, ohms are like the size of the hose, which in your case i would assume is narrow
mageac 2 weeks ago
@DemoFly I have touched a 200 amp alt and nothing... a battery can discharge 400 to 800 amps and you can go outside and touch pos and neg..

Been there and had the shirt. I was shocked by the ignition coil once, its about 220 ish in volts. Not bad, but does bite ya good.

Dumbass.

Kris7717 3 months ago 2
This is fake, the guys wearing gloves for one and for two if you get shocked by the ignition system you wouldn't fall on the ground a roll around that long. It's not that big of a deal. At the worst I banged my elbow into the hood or whatever I never have dropped to the ground or anything. FAKE

I am a 39 yr. mechanic, so I am qualified.

how you can get shocked on a car?
burncy 4 months ago
Its funny reading these comments. Ive been working on cars for years and no matter what you believe this is the truth. You will NOT get shocked from 12 or 24 volts even if youre under water. The voltage is much too low for it to pass through your body so you wont feel anything, not even a tingle, zip, nada.
You can get shocked from the ignition system though, it hurts like hell but it doesnt throw you on the floor. Xenon headlights can also shock you.
Lillie1986 4 months ago
iv had a belt from an ignition system many times and i didnt fall over, i didnt even lose my footing, it didnt even affect my legs, i just jumped like someone airhorned me... why is he reacting so badly like hes had a tazer shock?

teamsterjeffrey 4 months ago
A magneto will knock you on your ass even if it isn't in an engine if you are holding onto it and you turn the input shaft. Yup I made that mistake 25 years ago or so. Once was enough for me.
xtpuller 4 months ago
Dumbasses!!! You can be shocked with 12v but it won't seriously hurt ya. 9v is enough, take a 9v transistor radio battery and touch both the + and - with your tongue. It will tickle because your tongue is conducting electricity (you are getting shocked). Modern autos have HEI. That is high energy ignition with much hotter spark than the old cars. You can get a nasty shock without any battery. I have had guest playing with my magneto from a performance engine which actually generates electricity.
