It was the cameraman's fault. He was in the wrong spot at the wrong time. The tubist warned him, and he did not move. It would be like a cameraguy getting tackled if he wandered onto the field during a play. The lineman that hit him would be doing his job of hitting the guy in front of him, and the cameraman would be in the way.
@JennRoxYourSox Well, thats a normal Sousaphone move and he went to his spot and told the camera man to "watch out" I beg to differ, its clearly the camera mans fault .
@L33TH47 The tuba was dented, you can see that in the video, but the bell is probably the easiest part to fix. It did not look like there were cracks or holes made. I am betting that it was fixed for less than $100.
@BrawlMasterROB Yes I do know something about marching band. I've done it for 4 years and if the college I end up going to has it, I'll do it in college too. If he had noticiced it was there, he would have asked him to please move and or adjust to the camera.
@Celestialdome He yelled 'Watch out!' before he bowed. More than I would have done. Although, I might have cracked a bell and had the directors on my ass.
@loudmouth5996 Then I stand corrected. I hadn't caught that the first time. But he probably could have not swung so low (maybe only gone half-way, it would still have the same visual effect). But at least he warned 'em.
@Celestialdome In marching band, Its all or nothing. I look at that tuba player with respect because he went for it all out even if it means denting his bell or hurting a camera! Its all for the fans and the tradition.
Also, he says "watch out" right before he does it.
It wouldn't have had the same visual effect because for it to be seen visible to the stands, you need to make the broadest of movements. That's why they pull their legs up while marching, and if you've ever seen them do it normally that's why the drum major kicks his legs out far and wide so that the people in top of the stands can see it. Like if you bow your head slightly on the field, will people in the stands see it as clearly? No, you gotta bow full on not halfway.
at my highschool i play baritone and our sectional teracher is in the osu marching band and said tht the cameraman had to pay them a lot of money for this
well thats what espn gets for lettin the cameraman get that close..he shoulda been fired if he hasnt...dumbass..like the tuba player could help it he did what he had to
One would think that somebody would tell that camera guy: "Ok, so that guy traditionally takes a huge bow. He's going to be pretty pumped so you're going to want to keep a bit of distance."
Have these TV people NOT seen this before? Do they not know what to expect? Idiots.
I heard that espn was a little pissed because it hosed their brand new 150,000 dollar 3d camera, stupid cameraman shouldn't have been that close in the first place.
Sorry to say but they only had 2 cameras at the osu game that were 3D and that was not one of them. It took off the cameramans view finder cup, maybe a $900 dollar fix.
@RPSGT I don't care how long you have been associated with the band, it is not a secret but it something that the band developed and it should stay that way. outsiders have no reason to use it and most people who know what it stands for do not know how it came about. It is something that is held close to the band and it should stay that way.
@wildandcrazymanberta Oh please. Do you think any other low brass players in the literally hundreds of thousands bands put together never said play with balls???? Thats what low brass is...ballsy. What makes you think its unique to TBDBITL???
Whatever, what were you a flag girl, or did you play the piccolo?
@RPSGT Okay, I never said it was unique to TBDBITL. I said that if you were as close to the the band as you said you were then you would know how close TBDBITL holds it. I am well aware that other bands/people use it but they don't use it for the same reason TBDBITL does. Like I said if you were close to the band you would understand that. And for your information smart ass I am a current member of TBDBITL, so my membership trumps how long you have been "associated".
thats was great, but even better if you watched the whole thing he switched instruments for this moment... lol he was preparing his whole life for this and WHAMMMMMM
This goes down as one of the most memorable I-dots ever! He told the guy to watch out. NOTHING was going to stand in his way during HIS big moment. Love it!
Haha you can see him tell the guy to watch out. Camera man's an idiot, that tradition has been there since 1936 everyone in the stadium knew what the sousaphone player was about to do...
U can tell who the Ohio st. fans are and who the SC fans are on this page. The Ohio st fans say its the camera man and the Sc fans say it's his fault HAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHA
yeah, that wasn't a marching band fail, definitely was the cameraman's fault. the sousa was just doing what they always do, and he warned to guy to watch out. so you should probably rename this "cameraman fail"
He said "watch out!" lol
