  • @Limcamilka there is a wee bit of luck in but being keep in little block tanks or cups you should be able to tell a fishes aggressiveness. Look for a medium amount of movement, meaning one that happily swims not one that is darting around fast but also not one that just sits in one akward spot. Also look for the amount of flaring as that can show stress and defenciveness. Also the colour of the fish can show calmness or stress. Hope this helps :)

  • Oh darn, I guess I should have a back up tank in case it does not work

  • Can someone please tell me what to look for when buying calm betta

  • @Limcamilka theres none its all luck

  • i see u have some pragnant guppies

  • More videos? Please!

  • I do you make it so the tank doesn't grow so much algae with the plants? -_-;;

  • @CreativePetKeeping I have a 5 gallon tank would a betta be happy in that with 3 tetra or is that to small?

  • How do you tell if a betta is calm when you buy it?

  • Your guppys had babys

  • Berta's and frog work?

  • what kind of grass is that coming form the top of the tank?

  • how can you tell if the beta is calm when you get one? i have to guppys a marigold varieties and some plates advice?

  • Cute.

  • I have been keeping Betta's this way for years... Check out my tank "Rainforest Basement Tank". I separate them when breeding and rerelease afterwards

  • I might try that

  • I see one of your guppies is pregnant!

  • lovly just one thing remove the chineas algea eater... as it grows older it will become extreemly agressive eat your plants and stress/attack your fish. fish with lots of hiding places still show teratorial behaviour but have more spreadout places to make their teratories

  • Also, what should I look for in a betta for my guppies?

  • Hey, would you mind watching and commenting on my video "Adding a Betta To My Guppy Tank"? I only ask because I made that video because I saw this one and it was supposed to be a sort of video response, but I couldn't figure that out on my phone. It's just on my channel. I put it up an hour ago. If you could do that, that'd be great. If you posted this video almost a year ago, you've probably already named the betta. What'd you name it

  • i jusr got a new crowntail betta named Alejandro and got him 2 guppy girls named Starsruck and Paperazzi (all lady gaga song titles) and they seem to be doing just fine in their 1gal. i know its not big enough but i just got it. i will get a bigger tank later on. and could you tell me if i could get another guppy? or would it be to crowded?

  • nice tank , please pernouce BETA, not Better fish xD

  • Beautiful tank! I like how you went with the natural look to your tank. That is similar to how I have mine set up. I plan to make a video about my guppy tank and ill try to show my betta fish too. His name is Blue. I think Aurora would be a cool name for your betta.

  • I have some guppies in with my betta and it has really brought him 'out of his shell'. I have found that the guppies tend to keep their boisterousness to each other and leave the betta alone. with the betta being left alone, he seems quite happy to just glide about the tank 'acting tough', lol!

  • How do u choose a calm betta what do u look for??

  • it is possible to keep bettas with goldfish as bettas do not require warm water. They can adapt to colder water, and bettas are not aggressive, as long as you keep them away from other males, and anything that looks like a male betta. Bettas are one of the easiest fish to keep in a community tank.

  • @AndehX Betta fish are tropical, so they need warm water. They can live in colder water for a time, but they're not very happy, and they often get sick and die. =/

  • @sangonaomi they can live happily in room tempretature water.

  • where did you get the grassy plants?

    I need them @___@

  • what are the plants called?

  • its not the guppies i would be worried about but my beta, cuz from my experience beta is the one that comes under attack from almost all kinda fish cuz of its long flowing fins. its too much of an attraction for the other fish. take a closer look and ur guppies are more interested in the beta :D

    nice video luv the tank

  • @danielb1787 With a male in the mix they will breed so if you don't want babies than no male

  • I have had 2 female guppies living together for about 6 months, recently I had a ammonia spike and It killed one of the guppies, now the one left just sits in the corner and looks depressed, would buying another female guppy help Or should I give up hope?

  • @adrenalinejunkie444 I'd get another one. Poor thing must be lonely :( Hope it all works out.

  • Humm Well i got a 5.5 gallon tank and I have one male beta...i want to add more color...any ideas?

  • I see there are some fry.Surely they didn't survive.

  • Yes, I would like to know what kind of lighting your using and your plants are so nice.

And are you using C02 system?

  • How beautiful a tank you have!!!! WOW I would love for my tank to have white find sand/glass as the substraight. I also had a Betta with a tank full of fish for several years and it was peaceful to the other fish.

  • Lightning

  • when you mention about female bettas is that 5 females with one male, AND tetras?

  • @danielb1787 well, in my old tank I had more then five females, a male, and 3 red eye tetras. So you can add tetras if you want. Just try and get a big group of females.

  • @CreativePetKeeping how big is that tank?

  • @thefishbreader 20 gallons

  • Do you use any CO2 system? cant believe how nice your plants are!

  • well im probably gonna sound dumb but i have a 3 gallon tank and i just tried to put a betta and two guppies together the betta seemed okay but the two guppies look scared shitless of the betta they just stayed in one corner for like 30 mins did not move! then i took the betta out and now they seem happy and are swimming around! sigh i guess it was to small of a tank :/

  • This is a great video! I own a small tropical fish store and my customers are always asking questions that pertain to the information you have provided here..... good video I will share:)

  • @stevestropicalfish Thank you very much! I really appreciate it.

  • fighting fish attack their own reflection all the time. if they attack any guppy its dead caus they are weak fish and die of shock even if they see their own reflection

  • i think all the live bearers eat the fry you need to put a partition in asp. keep an eye out for fry every 2/3 months you need a 60ltr tank at least if you have guppy's, platies and swordtails or mollies. plants are a bit dodgy as some fish like mollies eat too much of it and others decay easy and cause acidity so just buy then seperatly and see how they go and other plants fish use for hiding and natural camoflage like angelfish in front of long grassy plants cos they have stripes to match.

  • Were did you get the plants?

  • did you realize that there are some baby guppy's in there?

  • I had a Betta years ago in a 55 Gallon Comunity Tank with Guppys....the first months nothing happend but than the Betta attacks the Guppys when I turned off the light by night!

  • before i had 97 betta fishes and i had a trouble with them because i dont know where will i put them..

  • hello there! What kind of plants are you using..?

  • BATTA

    Not

    Beh-tta

  • can you breed bettas :P????????????

  • @123ak59 How do you think more bettas appear at stores. =P

  • @wonderboy2402 lol i did not think of that :D my stupidity right :D

  • @123ak59 ~Haha. Nah, but the funny thing is guppies are SO prolific, that even with my dinosaur eel eating them they still reproduce faster then he can devour them.

  • gorgeous tank, are your background plants water onions?

  • I really like your tank! It's gorgeous. Not so sure about the fish being together. That would make me nervous. BUT, very beautiful tank!

  • My guppys had babies last night they got eaten, now I am mental!!!!!!!!!

  • awsome tank! and plants.

  • dose it take long to clean

  • @petgirl8 I have two community tanks with a male betta in each for over a year. So far both my males have not killed a single fish. The name was given to then because they use the males to fight in a sport just like they do with roosters, dogs...ect. Under the correct circumstances these fish are peaceful.

  • @petgirl8 yea research before you freak out...they only fight males of their own kind.

  • @dala109 And gouramis.

  • @petgirl8 get out of the box bettas can get along with other fishies no problem

  • @petgirl8 Males will fight other males, they will not always kill each other. Males can live peacefully in other community fish tanks giving those fish do not nip at their fins. Guppies, platies, plecos and so on are good fish for a betta fish tank.

  • @laceymay611 use a siphon tube

  • I also wanted to know how to make sure your guppies dont over population my ank tnak you

  • @laceymay611 my guppies eat their babies :P

  • @laceymay611 Cull the ones that develop into young unattractive fish. That means putting the unwanted offspring in another tank or feeding them to a predatory fish... Like a dinosaur eel. =]

  • I was wondering how you clean the tank with all the plants inside??

  • It's 20 gallons

  • @rolloxianTeam it's 20 ga

  • Your guppys had babies

  • Comment removed

  • good tips on the heavily planted setup to avoid predation... also a very cosy pretty tank

  • Wow, How many gallons is that?

  • Hi, I love your tank, it is very beautiful. I would love to have one like it, but I was wondering about your substrate. I really like it, what is it? I've been doing some reading on substrate for aquarium plants, I'd love to get something like Eco-Complete except that is dark, and I prefer the white color. Any thoughts?

  • I have 6 zerba danios. They attacked my betta, so I put it in isolation until I got 5 tetras of different species. Now I think it's okay, but my neon tetra is the smallest and within a week got the top of its tail chomped. Waiting for aquariumplants . com to ship some plants. Thx for the vid.

  • Hey one of my female guppies has lost around 3/4 of her tail, will it grow back? Btw she can still swim around and it was because my betta nipped her

  • @adrenalinejunkie444 Yes, Guppies tail WILL growing back. my guppies always get tail nipped by other fish. they grew back to normal.

  • @dangerdude000 you can keep almost any fish with bettas expt african cichiclids and fish bigger than the bettas.make shute to have a heavily planted tank

  • Hey can you guys tell me fish that you can keep with a Betta?

  • @Dangerdude000 peaceful schooling fish like tetras have always worked best for me.

  • what plants are those?

  • @addjewlery she knows how your fish is feeling is because of the reaserch she as done that you obviously have not. everything she has said I have read in many books and on up to date sites. if this is how your tank works maby tape it? tits or gtfo kinda thing? she talks asbout her bettas personality and how the tank from guppies to tank size too plants, how it all flows. listine much?

  • what about 4 or 5 neon tetras and 1 betta?

  • how do you keep your tank so clean?

  • What is the algae eater at 2:32? Can a keep a betta in a 29 gallon tank with some corydoras catfish, Siamese algae eaters, 7 head and tail light tetras, and some platies?

  • can tetras guppies bettas live in a 10g tank? i know tetras and guppies can live together!!

  • aww thats soo sad there are so many beutiful and awsome animals that are abused for no reason betta fish are forced to live in small cups goldfissh are put in by hundreds in one 50 gall and guppies are also put in by hundreds in a 50 gall in most pet stores these are just three there are millions of other animals like these thumbs up for animmaallls

  • I ran into your video by accident. Thank you for making such a concise and informative video about the misunderstood betta - Its perfect. It bothers me to see betta mislabeled and otherwise mistreated.

I recently got another betta from a shop and have been kinda cranky about what the clerk said. It makes me feel better to know Im not the only one who doesnt view bettas as aquarium killers.

  • *cont* My yellow betta is the most aggressive betta Ive ever had. Fortunately he is a billowing crowntail, and so too slow to catch any other fish if his interest lasted more than a couple seconds. I think it comes down to the size of the tank, the personality of the betta, and the other species in the tank. For example, a small tank with a fast angry betta, little cover + slow neighbouring fish wouldnt be a good. Unfortunately you cant tell the activity level of a betta until you get it home.

  • Each betta has a different personality. Some are more slow, some more aggressive. I have had a handful of betta in community tanks over the years and never had a problem with tetras or guppies or minnows, or anything! My yellow one was so much of a food-hog I had to move him to his own tank though. While in the community tank he sometimes chased the barbs for a second. The rose betta in there now completely ignores the other fish. I had some shrimp and there was no problem with them either.

  • hey what kind of plant is that the big grass looking thing

  • can bettas live with fancy male guppies?

  • @JonathanDeNerfSgt no, the tail are too elegant as in the male betta will see it as a rival and want to attack it

  • my betta is in a 15g tank and it attacks everything. I put a few neon tetras in it and my betta attacked them, even managing to catch one by the tail. I rescued the tetra and all of them are doing well in a separate tank. My betta is alone in the 15g tank and I think it likes it that way

  • @fiqtoopro exact same problem as me i got rid of my betta, it killed 5 of my tetras by chasing them constantly anything that moved he would chase this was also in a 15 gallon wide tank.

  • yes everyone always seems to think that bettas are bloodsuckers.

but really, bettas are actually pretty peaceful if they are giving the right tank space.

i have my male betta in a 37 gallon fish tank.it is a bit harder for bettas to live in tanks with other fast swimming fish. this is because they eat all the food before your betta can eat it. result in in your betta dying from starvation. it happend to me 2 times before i got a beta that would get exited and go to the top of the tank for food.

  • @TheChrisTelevision Im wondering if you arent mistaking excitement for observant-ness? Any healthy fish wants to eat. If a fish sees you are dropping food in, it will come. Theres no real excuse for a healthy pet starving. Betta are often off to the side looking at something and wont see you with food. In which case I get the bettas attention so it can come and eat. At the least, you could keep an eye on the betta and feed it specifically when you get its attention/ when it comes up for air.

  • Your tank and idea is beautiful!!!!! To be honest, that is the very first betta I have ever seen swim around!!!!!!!! LOL The ones that I have seen all just hang at the top so it was neat seeing that they could actually swim. I know that sounds dumb, but it just goes to show, that you idea is wonderful!!! Excellent video BTW too.

  • my betta lived in plastic cup for 3 years and it was perfectly fine

  • @Ficocuz thats a horrible way for a betta to live, no heat. little water means constant temperature changes.

  • @TheEdwardacevedo1 no ive had mine in little vase for 3 years its still alive ..

  • my betta fish has been living in cold water and my gold fish live in cold water to so can I Put them in the same tank the tank is 20gallon

  • That tank is amazing- it's exactly what I'm trying to set up but with Tetra's or Rasbora's. What is the tall grass like plant if you don't mind. I recognize most of the others but not that one.

Thanks for sharing- the tank is gorgeous! :)

  • Is there anything I have to do to the live plant before I put it in the tank?

I have Lucky Bamboo I want to put in. I just wanna be on the safe side.

  • could tetras guppies bettas live in a 10 gallon tank?

  • @Julissapt yes... tetras and guppys can live in a 10g

  • Hi, awesome aquarium you got there, I love how it is planted.

I have a few questions about the planting of this tank, what did you use as substrate? -- Is it glass sand or just regular sand? And did you put any gardening soil beneath the sand or are those plants just growing in sand?

  • guppies can be aggressive towards each other while mating and tear each others fins often, they are community fish but most don't realize they can be aggressive too

  • Comment removed

  • The male guppies in this video have terribly nipped fins :(

  • @iMiss531 yeah :( xx

  • is it generally safe to put these two species together?

  • @Reecethomas34 No. Bettas attack most long-colored fins fishes (Guppies, Angelfish, Gouramis, etc.. is a long list). They may don't do this some times (maybe 5%), but you have always to remember that bettas are aggresive fishes... even with a highly planted tank they will tend to attack their tankmates, if they are fast enough they wont get wounded but they, eventually, will be damaged or stressed to dangerous levels.

    Check the aquarium wiki.

  • finnaly! someone knows how to treats there bettas! I hate it when betta's are stuck in those one gallon tanks. i have my betta in a ten gallon but its isolated from my other tanks. would it be ok if i put it in my tropical communtiy tank of 20 gallons? theres mostly mollies in that tank and a few minows.

  • you say it bay-ta not beh-tu!!!

  • @imaamerican13

    What are you saying!!

    You say it as beh-tu.

    It's latin.Double T

  • you have to change the water 1 a week and clean the gravel once a week

  • tres bel aqua

je te propose de venir voir mes guppy en video

    a+

  • can u put tetras with a betta

  • @daedae8609 Tetras are more nippy than guppies and it is likely that whatever species of tetra you pick.....you'll end up with a betta fish with nipped fins. So in that case, it's better for the safety of your betta to NOT have tetras kept with it. Sometimes it works, but unless you have a whole school of tetras to work with and a large tank, I'd say it's not likely to succeed.

  • Would a 55 gallon tank be big enough for a community tank?

  • haha i saw that guppy fry. my swordtails are breeding like crazy at the moment

  • what fry is that?

  • Nice dragon, why dont you also put a Buddha statue, maybe the statue of Liberty and a scull, yes, a scull would fit fine and then tell stories about how fish should be kept.

Betta need SOFT water low Ph and guppies the opposite.

Bettas DEMAND their privacy to built their nest.

I could write till tomorrow the reasons why they cant be put together but ..... NO you wouldn't listen cause ..... you already know it all.

  • since you are asking for help i'll say to you my true story i have a betta too and if i put him with a scalare for exaple the betta will chase of the scalare no matter its size, so the "kind " of this fish comes with different charachter just like humans , yours is easy to handle mine is a bully and also add a house like deco the love to hide in a complex system.

  • i like this video , thanks for telling all this..........

  • does the betta ever eat any of the fry and i house female bettas with guppies in a 10 gallon tank and they do just great i guess it all depends on how aggressive the bettas are

  • i have two betta fish and a very small teank can i put both of them in the same teank writ back plzz at afnan19971

  • Where di you get the long grass type plants? Also how do you keep them living and growing??? Please answer, thank you!!!

  • nice set up and vid awesome (:

  • HOW DID YOU PLANT THIS TANK?

  • Will the beta live on the tropical fish flakes or do you have to buy separate food for the beta?

  • how do you clean/maintain you tank?

  • nice tank!, i've got two goldies in a fluval edge, they seem to love it but i know i want to upgrade again in the future to a larger maybe 40g tank and increase the family a bit, do you think a betta and a few gups would do well in the edge? Before i was thinking maybe a white cloud mountain minnow biope or a shrimp and danio tank

  • How does your betta not attack guppies

  • @moemoe1871 Pet stores try to make bettas seem more aggressive then they really are so you end up buying their tiny bowls.

  • @CreativePetKeeping : in asian many fish betta type. one of the other is a fighter. and your fish not like that.

  • @CreativePetKeeping

my betta kills all my male guppies...

  • @moemoe1871 betta's bred in the states aren't for fighting.

If you want killers you should get them from thailand.

  • @moemoe1871 Bettas are really only aggressive against their own species and are known to get bullied by other species.

  • you should name the betta mushu cuz it has that dragon in there

  • @saintsation12 Hmm I like that name :)

  • @saintsation12 my fish's name is mushu lol!

  • question, with a planted tank, do i need to still clean the sand or will the fish waste act as a fertilizer for the plants?

  • please answer me is please answer me. is it ok to keep cherry shrimp and betta fish together at around 10gallon tank?

  • @ASHOKCHAMLING actually Im not sure, if you have a lot of plants so the shrimp can hide then I think it can b eok.

  • @ASHOKCHAMLING I've kept ghost shrimp with a betta. Cherry shrimp should be fine. I have a video of shrimp, a snail, platies, and a betta together on my SuperCheesetastic account. Sorry if it seems like i'm advertising. xD

  • @ASHOKCHAMLING bettas love shrimp as food, be warned, i learned the hard way.

  • a betta ain't gonna hurt a guppy

  • hi , i have my 2 female bettas (who have been together for mounths in a 2.5g with 2 corys) and now the bettas and the corys are in a 10 gallon with 2 new platys (both male), i set the 10 gallon up today , do u thinck they will all get along , my bettas have had many tank mates befor and they have not killed anything exept wehn a molly had babies they ate the babies

  • Always love it when people think outside the box and try to keep different fish together peacefully. I love this tank so much. Can you please share the secret of keeping those plants bright and healthy ? Do you use substrate? or liquid fert?

  • @Jackyhkable I just use simple play-sand for the bottom and have a really strong light. I think the regular water changes help as well. I mostly keep easy to keep plants :) Im glad you like my tank.

  • So about 2 months later im acctually gonna try this :D thanks for inspiring me, ill keep some videos posted on my channel if you would like to see what it looks like :D thank you!!!

  • @dominodude007 awesome :)

  • @CreativePetKeeping actually just set it up : D getting a guppy when the tank cycles :D

  • Hi, I'm planning to buy some guppies and betta fish as my pets for the first time. I'm living in California, so I need to buy a heater for the fish tank during cold weather like Winter?

  • @lustrefriend How cold does it get inside your house? Tanks often match room temperature when there is no heater so if, during the winter, your house is till around 80 then u dont need a heater. But if not then buy one, they are not that expensive.
