If there was ever a song written with guitar parts better than this I don't know it. None of your standard rock'n'roll chunka chunka rhythm/lead split, just beautiful meandering, intertwining, melodic and harmonic lines.
@Allrightteam, I know it, and do. Something about the guitar sounds in this reminds me of very early Steeleye Span, when Martin Carthy was in the lineup playing a Telecaster.
Very nice. Just listening to Adventure for the first time and noticing it is a lot more laid back. This reminds me of The Byrds, and more recently Built to Spill
I just love this one. Apart from 'Guiding light' it's my favourite TV song. God, I almost cry when I hear it. I remember being really depressed when I was nineteen, it was this very warm swedish summer, the trees were filled with lazy hornets and the air was thick, and I stayed up all nights just listening to this. Didn't do much for my depression though, I think it's so sad.
@discomadame I agree this song's emotionally touching. But sad? Hm, I'd say it's arguably the most positive, even ecstatic love song Tom ever wrote with Television, more so than "Venus", where Tom still "knew there was pain". I don't hear any pain in "Days", or sadness. Just the opposite. However, I can see how it could feel sad to listen to if one's depressed & feeling so far away from ecstasy. But if Tom's expressing any tears here, surely they're tears of joy!
My favourite track from this album! A shame that the one time I saw them live in concert (for free in Central Park, NYC in June '07) they didn't play this. I like this as much as the title track from Marquee Moon.
best guitar solo on the record, thank you Richard Lloyd.
