This may seem like just another way for Blizzard to make money, but it really is just about the only way they can really control the buying/selling of items with real money. And besides, if you don't want to buy items then you don't have to. Simple as that.
People seem to forget that real world item trading eventually ruined Diablo 2. The in-game item market became so inflated that virtually everyone had the best items you could get your hands on. It took away the fun of actually playing the game and not rushing through it as quickly as possible so you could level up and use all the high-end items you had stashed. Not to mention that people were making money by selling things that legally belonged to Blizzard, which is very illegal.
Just face it, diablo 3 is going to suck dicks because all games do nowadays. They're just going to overdo it and mess up. Give up all hope and save yourself the pain.

The actual people who made Diablo and D2 made torchlight and torchlight 2, almost none of the devs who helped make the first 2 diablos are with blizzard (the new activision-blizzard) as of now. Diablo 3 will play like a wow/diablo hybrid. They just announced that gear (including the best gear) will be for sale online for real money, you must be logged into their servers to play (no offline play at all) and no modding is allowed to prevent you from modding in gear instead of paying cash for it.

Do you understand the problems Diablo and Diablo 2 had with item selling? Gold isn't as important in the game as in other games. Gold was essentially worthless in Diablo 2. People traded items instead. This is going to happen again reguardless. So Blizzard is cutting out the shady companies and sites, and letting people choose to buy and sell items themselves. It's optional. Not required. 12 years later, people are still selling Diablo 2 items. They are cutting out the shady sites.
@Draknfyre I absolutely agree gold was handled VERY poorly in the previous Diablos. There are ways to overcome that tho (I think WoW did a good job with moneysinks and whatnot). I just cant possibly have for respect the move when Blizzard openly support gold selling in one game, and then outlaw it completely in another.
That's because the style is completely different. You don't have progression, or Tiers, BOP (at least in the previous Diablos) and loot is random. And you can't use the real money AH in Hardcore mode at all.
They knew item selling was going to happen anyway. This way they can make sure it's not by some Chinese site, and scamming players. The gold is treated like any other object, and sold by other players. It's not like you can buy gold directly from them.
@Draknfyre Thats bullshit actually. People will still sell stuff to avoid blizzard "cut fee" "AH item place fee" "RLM withdraw fee". Powerleveling will still be sold, items outside of it will still be sold, gold will still be sold.
RMAH does nothing but provides additional source of income for blizz. Only blind people dont see that is the only reason for it.
@macabrebunny When someone wants to sell item, he has to post it on AH for which he pays RM fee, then if item is sold blizzard takes their cut fee of approx 5%, then if you want to get cash withdrawn from your pool or transfered to your bank account you pay additional fee.
D3 shops will simply offer you the same stuff but cheaper because they wont have to deal with all the % fees and flat fees as well as no competition in form of undercutting on AH. Many will still use it RMAH tho.

It will allow people who wanna play that way to go through legal means and blizz will be able to keep track of unusally high amount of items sold by a player hence fininding bots. People will also go by ah even if its more cuz it will be 0 risk of getting in trouble.

After getting all the achievements, I quit playing. This game game doesn't really offer me much. It was kinda fun in the beggining, but it got really repetitive with no real challenges. I really wanted to like this game too.

Torchlight is a good game, but it is too pale to keep me. First the game is easy because it is made for single player; there aren't a lot of strategy to this game except for the familiar kill and collect good gears. Second, the music doesn't keep me in my seat and after a short while I was bored. Third, the cartoonish graphic is the downfall of this game because it simply is not scary enough to pull me into the action and keep me there. Lastly, I only got to play one freaking zone over and over.
The hilareous part of this is the fact that those ex blizzard guys could quite easily make D3 for about half if not less than half of blizzards budget.
Plus you do have to notice that given the budget of runic and there staff team, the world may soon turn round and go. "oh have you heard of that new mmorpg that runic are creating?"

People traded items instead. This is going to happen again reguardless. So Blizzard is cutting out the shady companies and sites, and letting people choose to buy and sell items themselves. It's optional. Not required. 12 years later, people are still selling Diablo 2 items. They are cutting out the shady sites.

@Draknfyre I absolutely agree gold was handled VERY poorly in the previous Diablos. There are ways to overcome that tho (I think WoW did a good job with moneysinks and whatnot). I just cant possibly have for respect the move when Blizzard openly support gold selling in one game, and then outlaw it completely in another.

That's because the style is completely different. You don't have progression, or Tiers, BOP (at least in the previous Diablos) and loot is random. And you can't use the real money AH in Hardcore mode at all.
They knew item selling was going to happen anyway. This way they can make sure it's not by some Chinese site, and scamming players. The gold is treated like any other object, and sold by other players. It's not like you can buy gold directly from them.

RMAH does nothing but provides additional source of income for blizz. Only blind people dont see that is the only reason for it.

@macabrebunny When someone wants to sell item, he has to post it on AH for which he pays RM fee, then if item is sold blizzard takes their cut fee of approx 5%, then if you want to get cash withdrawn from your pool or transfered to your bank account you pay additional fee.
D3 shops will simply offer you the same stuff but cheaper because they wont have to deal with all the % fees and flat fees as well as no competition in form of undercutting on AH. Many will still use it RMAH tho.

Torchlight is a good game, but it is too pale to keep me. First the game is easy because it is made for single player; there aren't a lot of strategy to this game except for the familiar kill and collect good gears. Second, the music doesn't keep me in my seat and after a short while I was bored. Third, the cartoonish graphic is the downfall of this game because it simply is not scary enough to pull me into the action and keep me there. Lastly, I only got to play one freaking zone over and over.

Blizzard north was dissolved in 2005 due to their progress on Diablo 3 not being good. But the guys who made torchlight had already left 2 years previous and were hard at work on hellgate london. So the closure of Blizzard North probably didn't have much to do with Runic & Jay wilson didnt 'own them in the face' as you so nicely put it

Breaking down the basics from classics like diablo 2 , applying them into something enjoyable.
its a great game , and true to the spirit in wich diablo was created.
Ill be playing Diablo 3 , but im looking forward to Torchlight 2 also.
i dont have a manufacturer preference , its ALL about the quality of the end-product.
Quality over quantity if you will.

@Okurion Yeah?.... and Torchlight 2 has been in only production under 2 years... Diablo 3 since 2008... Quality over Quantity indeed.
Torchlight I & II was made for quick publicity for runic games, knowing, that Diablo 3 Is coming sooner than later now, they're pushing TL2 out for they can make more money.
No offense to TL2,I've played TL1.. but it's not better then even Diablo 2...
And.... "breaking downs the basic from classic like diablo 2..etc" you saying Diablo 2 wasnt enjoyable?

@KoltonP Im saying diablo 2 was epic , and torchlight (1) did a good job matching it up. (alltho , no multiplayer.)
imma get both , as theyre both good games. Thats what im saying.
