Sam said this song, as well as Nothing Can Change This Love (he wrote both songs, btw), were his current favorites from his catalogue as of early 1963...therefore I suspect he was a hopeless romantic at heart.
There will never be a song written that Sam couldn't have sung and sung well. His talents as a singer and songwriter are probably in the top 2% of all that ever lived. As for his songs, look at how many of them have been covered by others even years and years after his passing. People don't cover a song if it's junk....Sam didn't write no junk. R.I.P. Sam...we love your music, we miss you, and we can only imagine the songs you left unwritten and unsung.
At the end of this video, the birthyear is incorrect. Sam was born in 1931, NOT 1930. It's a shame that on his own gravestone, to this day, his birthyear is incorrect...but that's a whole 'nother story.
People often said Sam's prolific writing, on paper, looked a bit corny. Sam would be so excited about the songs he wrote, and the musicians would think "ok, it sounds corny, but if you say so Sam...". That was the case with Sam's 'You Send Me'. But once Sam sang the words, those same musicians would unanimously attest to the power and beauty of the song; even with its simple words, once Sam sang a song, it became powerful. Powerful. Just like this song.
This man was the KING OF SMOOOOOTH!!!!! put him on and just float away~~~~~ RIP in dear angel, the pleasure u remain to give us is amazin~~~~~~SAM COOKE, the man!!!!
