You can't even turn on the discovery channel with out seeing that "bear" character mutilating some of my personal favorite species of snakes and monitor lizards purely for the shock factor and vile human entertainment, and a hell of a lot more reptile enthusiasts watch the discovery channel than rat enthusiasts watch me feeding my animals. You know what I do? I simply don't watch it! It's just that simple, you should try it sometime.
No, I actually picked the rat up by the tail and gave it one sharp deliberate blow to the back of the head with a 12" x 1" cylindrical piece of oak, where the skull meets the spine, in order to separate the spinal column and paralize the head so that it no longer had the ability to bite my snake. It's a technique I developed more than a decade ago, & it is very effective considering I have never had an animal suffer from a rat or rabbit bite. If you need more info feel free to ask. :)
Man people should stop bitching. It says it in the title what the video is about don't watch it if you're a wuss. Get over it. It happens. If youtube had a problem with it they'd take it off. Cool vid.

I don't understand you people commenting about feedin snakes live rats. Why does this bother you so much? If the damn rat was dead, does it make you feel better? Why? Because you DIDN'T SEE how they killed the rat at the pet shop? They probably smacked him againt the wall or stranled him to death just like the snake does. If you don't want to see the rat die, DON'T WATCH videos on snakes feeding. You F-ing retards!
He stunned the rat. Constrictors kill their prey quite quick and efficiently, Ill tell you this, that rat suffered a lot less than any chicken or cow that I or you bought ffrom the super market to eat.
Stunning larger rodents is a great way to make sure your pet will not be bitten.
A good slap against a table or the side of a heavy duty aquarium usually does the trick, and knocks the rodent out most of the time.
It usually seems less traumatic for both the prey item and the snake, though the snake owner may need therapy if they are weak in the knees about killing a rodent.
I think there is a paradox here. If somebody was to get upset at the sight of seeing a live animal being fed to a larger predator I would tell them that this was completely natural and the only way truly respect this creature and do it justice. But on those grounds, you could also say that this animal probably should not be kept as a pet, in a cage. I'm not blaming anybody, just trying to raise a point.
The way I see it is every "pet" quality animal essentially stops being a "wild" animal through selective captive breeding with the intent for the offspring to be sold as "pets" or for breeding purposes. I have the paper work for every reptile I own and every one of them have been breed in captivity with the intent to be sold as pets for a minimum of six generations. Hey thanks man! When I first got this female she was pretty feisty, she bit me a good 60+ times the first month or so, but now she is the most easy going reptile I own. She is a CBB07 as well, she is 54" now. Your blood is gorgeous! He has an awesome pattern and beautiful coloration! How big is he?
Beautiful Blood Python :D I have a CB07 Male Malaysian myself, and have never been bitten, although my royal (ball) has tagged me once :P ironic huh? Great vid too! Lemme know if you upload anymore :)
i didnt even know rats get that big! and that was the smallest large rat they had? hey i was wondering if ur snake attacked u would u be able to fend it off?
Of my reptiles this blood python would be the last one to bite me, she is by far the most easy going snake I've ever owned or worked with, but to answer your question she wouldn't be too much trouble to get back under control if she did bite me. I have been bitten by much larger snakes at the small breeding facility I work at, without recieving any serious injuries (just some pretty good puncture wounds).
Python brongersmai are very heavy bodied snakes, I usually feed this girl about 2-3 times per month depending on the size of the prey item and how fast she digests the previous one. She has grown quite a bit since this video she was about 37" here but now she is about 50"+ I have been really busy with my Varanus panoptes horni (Argus monitor) and breeding season this year, but I will be sure to get a few videos up soon.

ya, it wasn't so much that you stunned your prey first, but rather you had some kind of utensil there to prevent your pet from being bitten. good job.
Thanks a lot man! You're right about her length, when I shot this video I'm pretty sure she was 32" but she's not fat (for her species), Python curtus brongersmai are very heavy bodied terrestrial snakes.
Most of the time I do feed my blood F/K rather than stunned when we get live rats in, but every once in a while I do give her the occasional stunned rat.
I do feed F/T most of the time. But every now and then the breeder I work for gets live rodents, so every once in a while I feed stunned or F/K. I don't see anything wrong with that.
Yeah this rat was stunned. Very cool man, I definitely recommend this species, they are very fun snakes to work with, CBB specimens tame down very nicely with a good amount of handling, and they'll keep you on your toes around feeding time. I only have one blood for the time being, but hopefully I should pick up an albino male for her from VPI in August if everything goes accordingly. Which species are you getting P.brongersmai, P.breitensteini, or P.curtus?
How do you stun your rats? I want to feed my python live rats, but she is captive bred and really dumb about where she strikes, so I was thinking maybe I would help her to learn.
I'm sorry man I went to reply to your other comment but I accidentally hit remove LOL. P.brongersmai are my favorite species out of the three, they display awesome red coloration as adults and they grow the largest. VPI produces a lot of top quality bloods, Dave & Tracy Barker know more about blood pythons than anyone else I know of and they are just a pleasure to work with. I definitely recommend them. Their website is VPI(DotCom) they also have an awesome caresheet and photo gallery posted.
She's so adorable! I've had problems feeding snakes in the past, but that never stops me from wanting another one (my ball python died shortly after I bought him).
I use both live and P/K. I get rodents and rabbits for free from the small breeder I work for. Sometimes he orders from RodentPro sometimes he gets them from a local feeder rodent and rabbit breeder, so whatever he has at the time is what I use. I have some F/T feeding videos posted.
i hate rats i am scared of them i will run like a chicken if i see one im not kidding i am devistated but i think they are cute too well just the mice not the rats the mice are cute but i am stiil scared of them~!
Sorry these people insulted you. We're not all like that. Yes, there actually is "snake food". It's called snake sausages, I'm not sure what's in them though. They're not commonly used though, and rats/mice/rabbits will always be the chief food source.
Thanks man! Oh yeah the reptile community is a very diverse crowd, filled with many very intelligent kind people. I've seen those snake sausages at the NARBC in Anaheim, Ca I think they primarily consist of ground rat but I think it varies, I've never used them myself so I don't know much about them. Rats, mice, and rabbits have always worked very well for me and I also believe they will continue to be the main food source for carnivorous reptiles.
Sorry about that man, I was going to weigh her today before I fed her, but while she was in the feeding tub I accidentally whacked the rat a bit too hard, and well to make a long story short it popped and I had to get it in the feeding tub as fast as possible because it was spurting blood all over the place (what a mess that was). I will DEFINITELY weigh her in about two or three days when she digests the rat so that I can get a more accurate measurement. By the way do you keep blood pythons?
Hey Thanks Man! I've had her for about six months now, and I'll weigh her in a couple of days because she just ate today and she should have the rat digested by then.
I'm considering getting a Blood Python and I am unsure about their temperament. I handled a couple in my local pet store that were still very young and they were very aggressive. Do they calm down after awhile or do they stay the same temperament?
If your worried about being bit a blood is probably not the snake for you. They are nippy youngsters, When my blood was a baby she was a little spitfire, she bit me 30+ times in the first two weeks and even when out of her cage would bite me repeatedly including a few to the face (that was fun), But with a good amount of dedicated gentle handling they calm right down my blood is now the most calm snake I own or work with (I work with a small breeder and good friend of mine).
Do you have any experience with snakes? if so what species and for how long? I ask this because bloods do terribly if their requirements aren't met. Temperature and especially humidity are vital, they can develop a respiratory infection if it's too high and can develop some other serious problems if the humidity is too low. They are very rewarding snakes and I love them, but they are not for the beginning herp keeper.
I've had a ball python for about 6 months, so I do need to do have some more experience with them but I figure in a year or so I will have learned enough. Thank you for your input.

I do feed F/T most of the time. But every now and then the breeder I work for gets live rodents, so every once in a while I feed stunned or F/K. I don't see anything wrong with that.

i thought that rat was dad at the begining lol kool snake!
sxcrob999 3 years ago
Thanks! Yeah this rat was pretty dead looking at the beginning, he was good and stunned.
FixingAHole237 3 years ago
Great video! Was that rat stunned? or something at the start and then woke up to a horrible nightmare lol ....
I'm hoping to pick up my first blood in the next couple weeks!
CarnivalCreation27 3 years ago
Yeah this rat was stunned. Very cool man, I definitely recommend this species, they are very fun snakes to work with, CBB specimens tame down very nicely with a good amount of handling, and they'll keep you on your toes around feeding time. I only have one blood for the time being, but hopefully I should pick up an albino male for her from VPI in August if everything goes accordingly. Which species are you getting P.brongersmai, P.breitensteini, or P.curtus?
FixingAHole237 3 years ago
How do you stun your rats? I want to feed my python live rats, but she is captive bred and really dumb about where she strikes, so I was thinking maybe I would help her to learn.
nkngftz 3 years ago
I'm sorry man I went to reply to your other comment but I accidentally hit remove LOL. P.brongersmai are my favorite species out of the three, they display awesome red coloration as adults and they grow the largest. VPI produces a lot of top quality bloods, Dave & Tracy Barker know more about blood pythons than anyone else I know of and they are just a pleasure to work with. I definitely recommend them. Their website is VPI(DotCom) they also have an awesome caresheet and photo gallery posted.

Not a problem, If you have any questions about blood pythons just ask and I can most likely help you out. :)

She's so adorable! I've had problems feeding snakes in the past, but that never stops me from wanting another one (my ball python died shortly after I bought him).
RimHooves 3 years ago
Thank you!
Sorry to hear about your ball python, was it a hatchling that failed to feed or was it just a finicky eater in general?
FixingAHole237 3 years ago
He was a hatchling that wouldn't eat, but he ultimately died of intenstinal disorders.
RimHooves 3 years ago
y do u use live food instead of pre killed
simonelliadam 3 years ago
I use both live and P/K. I get rodents and rabbits for free from the small breeder I work for. Sometimes he orders from RodentPro sometimes he gets them from a local feeder rodent and rabbit breeder, so whatever he has at the time is what I use. I have some F/T feeding videos posted.

Sorry these people insulted you. We're not all like that. Yes, there actually is "snake food". It's called snake sausages, I'm not sure what's in them though. They're not commonly used though, and rats/mice/rabbits will always be the chief food source.
HerpboyFLA 3 years ago
Thanks man! Oh yeah the reptile community is a very diverse crowd, filled with many very intelligent kind people. I've seen those snake sausages at the NARBC in Anaheim, Ca I think they primarily consist of ground rat but I think it varies, I've never used them myself so I don't know much about them. Rats, mice, and rabbits have always worked very well for me and I also believe they will continue to be the main food source for carnivorous reptiles.

ey do u no how heavy it is
bloodpycv 4 years ago
Sorry about that man, I was going to weigh her today before I fed her, but while she was in the feeding tub I accidentally whacked the rat a bit too hard, and well to make a long story short it popped and I had to get it in the feeding tub as fast as possible because it was spurting blood all over the place (what a mess that was). I will DEFINITELY weigh her in about two or three days when she digests the rat so that I can get a more accurate measurement. By the way do you keep blood pythons?
FixingAHole237 4 years ago
wow nice snake do u no how heavy it is

wow thats a really nice snake how long have u had it .......do u no how heavy it is
1escobar3 4 years ago
Hey Thanks Man! I've had her for about six months now, and I'll weigh her in a couple of days because she just ate today and she should have the rat digested by then.

I'm considering getting a Blood Python and I am unsure about their temperament. I handled a couple in my local pet store that were still very young and they were very aggressive. Do they calm down after awhile or do they stay the same temperament?
nelso333 4 years ago
If your worried about being bit a blood is probably not the snake for you. They are nippy youngsters, When my blood was a baby she was a little spitfire, she bit me 30+ times in the first two weeks and even when out of her cage would bite me repeatedly including a few to the face (that was fun), But with a good amount of dedicated gentle handling they calm right down my blood is now the most calm snake I own or work with (I work with a small breeder and good friend of mine).
FixingAHole237 4 years ago
Do you have any experience with snakes? if so what species and for how long? I ask this because bloods do terribly if their requirements aren't met. Temperature and especially humidity are vital, they can develop a respiratory infection if it's too high and can develop some other serious problems if the humidity is too low. They are very rewarding snakes and I love them, but they are not for the beginning herp keeper.
FixingAHole237 4 years ago
I've had a ball python for about 6 months, so I do need to do have some more experience with them but I figure in a year or so I will have learned enough. Thank you for your input.

Thanks. Yeah I knocked him over the head to stun him for a little while so the snake could get a good strike at its head so she doesnt get chewed on.
