Jane Byrne was good for Chicago - she started all of the neighborhood festivals including the epic Taste of Chicago. She was mayor during the hard national economic times of 1979-1983 yet still managed to do a lot. To this day, she is the ONLY woman to serve as mayor of 1 of the 3 largest cities in the USA.

Wow... This is great! Weirdly enough, l remember she was mayor, but l never once thought about her as l went to high school those four years in the suburb of Chicago Heights. But l do remember President Reagan.
