i actually bought the mini pro it was reasonable cheap compared to other devices and i love it!!!! there were only 3 downsides the screen scratches verry easy (without protection) and some of the sony ericsson software like the launcher doesnt offer much options i now use the go dev launcher and it works great!! i cant install apps on my sdcard so im running out of space on my onboard memory does anybody know how to get a higher version of android on this phone. SE wont upgrade it plz pm me

To get SMS in landscape mode, you have to root your phone(use "Superoneclick")

2. Yes, you just open an app called ¨market¨ and download and install which apps you want (this app in particular costs about 2€ which is a little over 2$)

@Xylensonic You've got to download a different messaging application to use this in landscape mode. Look up 'Handcent SMS' on the Android market. Once installed, navigate to your native SMS options and turn all alerts off - Stops you getting two notifications for each text you receive :-)

@tomboy895 Yeah, it's a fantastic little device. If you require a lot of screen estate to go about your daily business then I don't recommend it though, it's unbelievably small! Even before I got the phone and read a lot of reviews on it that mentioned the 'credit card sized form', I still wasn't prepared for how small this little machine was when I pulled it from the box!

@tomboy895 DO NOT BUY IT. It's way too small, and it doesn't have multitouch. The web browsing experience is horrible. The phone is also very slow, and it does not support most of the apps from android market due to the weak processor. I have this phone, and I get so frustrated from using it. Sending texts are way to hard because of a bug occuring when you try to use a different word with the same letters. Just don't buy it. Stay away from xperia and sony ericsson to start with.

@johnmighty5 man that post was 4 months ago. I'd think he already made a decision. But anyway, I dunno what you're talking about. Mine works great. I haven't found an app that doesn't work due to the processor. 600MHz is a good proc for such a small phone. It can run quake3 with about 20fps. (I got the mini pro, I foresaw typing on that small screen would be a horror.)

@mrkiky Yeah, sorry didn't notice how long ago it was. Sure many things work with the phone, but for me, very poorly. Have you tried angry birds? The lag is horrible! Sure, it works, but the phone is too small to play it anyway. I might have exaggerated a bit, but all I encounter with the phone is frustration. I wouldn't recommend anyone this phone. Although I might recommend the pro version. I never tried the x10 but since it doesn't either support multitouch, I don't feel compelled to try it.

Thank you very much for sharing! the Smart Keyboard Pro sure is much better than the SwithKey Keyboard (beta) I had on my SE Xperia mini a while ago. The landscape function made the difference. Also, the Handcent SMS sure is a much better app than most stock messaging apps. Couple all these with the latest ADW launcher, my phone now feels more like a HTC than SE ;)

@N1NJO3 The SE Xperia X10 mini is quite a good phone with the Smart Keyboard pro app only if you have small fingertips. Otherwise, the mini Pro is the better option.

The phone definitely one of the cheapest smallest android phones out there currently. If you love the X10 Mini, but think it's too small, you might want to wait a little longer for the X8 coming out soon with a built-in on screen QWERTY keyboard.

@lpguitarsaregreat 1) It can be used in regular texting, but only in portrait mode. To use it in landscape you've got to use a different SMS application (eg. Handcent SMS < very good application, I recommend it.)

2) Yes. WIthout a doubt. The only downfall is it is quite a small display, obviously, and the screen resolution quality can be a little poor sometimes.

3) Yes.

4&5) Unsure. If you're really a fan of buttons, I'd say go with the pro, though I haven't used it myself.

@lpguitarsaregreat Unfortunately I can't answer this fully as I'm not actually a user of Facebook (who would think it in this day in age?!), but I think there are settings for the Facebook widget so you can tell it how often you want it to update etc. If it's active, though, I think you'll be using data.

@liamfather you can't use it in landscape with the default messaging program, but you can use it in landscape with Handcent SMS - available from the android market. A very good app.

@CsRuler If you're having problems with Smart Keyboard you should search for 'Scandinavian Keyboard' in the Android market. Download and install. It's pretty much the same as Smart Keyboard and no, don't worry, Scandinavian is not the default language - it can be set to English and you can download dictionaries for it. Comes with various skins, including this HTC one I'm using and the standard Android/Iphone etc. Give it a try.

@freenamdar Personally, with this current setup I don't need the Pro version at all. Sure, I might make less mistakes, be a few words a minute faster but I'm not shelling out 50 pounds to go Pro and I'd be sacrificing weight and size ( the pro version is considerably thicker. )

@dinumaku You've got to select the keyboard you want to use by going to settings > locale and text > there you can select your keyboard. Also, before using it you must press and hold a text entry field and select your keyboard - that will then be the default until you change it back.
