The reason they sit down and face away is down to respect, you're not actually supposed to knock them out, well that's what it's like in the UK, i'm sure its the same here.
that´s a ushiro mawashi geri. a back roundhouse kick (chuck norris haha). but the fight is very terrible. my students (14 years old with a yellow belt) can better fighting.
@sempaimike16 When in battle, or many times in sparring, a person's training and form can go out the window - as many armchair experts have scant awareness of the clash of intentions & will (as well as many martial artists), which oft determines the probable outcome. What may seem like noobs to many, are merely fighters with aroused ch'i, attempting to stay focused and be in their excellence. It can indeed look ungainly and amateurish.
In response to the guy who said "dude its actually not that painful." You have never taken part in a Full Contact tournament, for if you had then you would not make such a stupid comment. 'All the best in your life as I am sure it is going well for you.
The second I tuned into this video, I said to myself: "Hmmm, self, who's going to get knocked out with a spin kick: the guy who keeps his hands at shoulder height or the one who keeps dropping them to his waist. I WONDER."
Though the vid was interesting in that 1:14 was the first time I've seen anyone throw a lead leg hook kick in knockdown. Worked about as well as could be expected, though.
It is actually a lot of fun to watch live. And skill wise, if you can punch someone's chest, you can punch someone jaw, which is just few inches higher. But then again it wouldn't be fun targeting each others jaw for a few minutes bare knuckles.
@OhNoPaypal oh okay because i just didnt understand the point of it so thank you for pointing that out for me and your right it wouldnt be all that fun, not that im trying to diss karate with that other comment
dude its actually not that painful, i did a tournament in new zealand last year and as long as u check the head kicks a barefist punch the gut isnt that painful. I dont do them any more cause i dont understand why u cant just chuck gloves on and add head punches
Well I guess that's the point, no gloves. To the Japanese, this is not only a sport, it is a test of manhood. One thing I pay so much respect to, was the fact that none of them lost control of their emotions. Everyone got their ego in check and have such great sportsmanship.
thats i guess the difference between traditional kyokoshing karate and modern martial arts, respect. That includes kung fu, taekwando all that old stuff
@disco11donkey you did a tournament in new zealand, new zealand is not that good at kyokushin either. go to my channel and look at the video. kyokushin beat most of the style of full contact
@disco11donkey this is oyama karate, this is pretty much different than kyokushinkaikan but bare knuckles fighting the really painful. idk if the oyama karate change the rules or anything. the founder of kyokushin also last name oyama but the first name are different
I fought better aged seven, on a yellow belt. Seriously, that fat guy is terrible.
The kick was good though!

"three minutes of bare fist to the chest without going down"
We trained like that all the time, dude. You gotta learn how to take a hit, and yeah, you're gonna get sore. It ain't basket-weaving!

@catfoodv yeah but people watch the video to see a spin kick knockout, not 1 minute 36 seconds of small kicks you know?

what if you can use this to get hot chicks?

@Gothiczartan
Chicks love spin kicks to the head.

@sempaimike16 I'm sure they can. You need a reality check if you really meant that.

Internet talk is cheap, until you see this live. Your 14 year old yellow belt will get his chest destroyed.

@catfoodv in karate loosin your head is not an option really , its the one thing looked down on by everyone - the way every sport should be

@catfoodv If they added punches to head. the fight lasted for 30 seconds so it would be a fail

You have never seen a gloved boxing match that lasted more than 30 seconds? I've seen matches that last 12 rounds.
