Sorry to say it, but this is Joe deceiving himself. Even Simonons looking the other way. Tough. You lost two good friends at the time Joe. For whatever reasons. But then again I understand his quote. Some friends do become intolerable. But I guess that thats the result of living together and not giving you're mates space when they need it. Hindsights a wonderful thing. Woah!
When Joe+the new Clash played in San Francisco in '84 I called in to his radio interview at 'the Quake' 94sumthin FM...I got lucky and was 1 of 3 or 4 callers. I sounded really nervous+stupid. I was 17yrs old or so. Joe was very anti-Mick, but the interview had some funny Joe-izms. I recorded it on a cassette. Made a couple 'funny' ans machine messages my parents wouldn't let me keep on for too long...
Mick, Joe, Paul or Topper could/should never be replaced, in my book...
That being said, Pete Howard could play the fucking drums! I saw him play the '83 US Festival show....Micks last with the Clash...Too bad Pete didn't get to play longer with Mick, Joe and Paul....at least till Topper got healthy again....ahh hindsight yadda yadda yadda. :)
The Clash Mk II were doomed to failure from day one. Jonesy had the right idea: bite the bullet and start fresh. If someone gave me that "Clash" album, which I refuse to name, I'd burn it. Talk about hanging on by your fingernails...
@haciendavil I thought they had another decent tune also...Can't remember the damn name though....sumthin-In the pouring rain...? Something like that...Had it on a 45 but lost it years+years ago...I think it was recorded live somewhere. Not a studio cut, I think.
"let the fake soul boys play fake black music" The wounds were obviously still fresh here. He obviously didn't mind keeping "bankrobber" in his set list. But glad the guys evntually made up.
did joe strummer just say no great rock record has double tracking?!?!?! man he must have been out of it during this one...thats one of the most ridiculous ive heard
Honestly, I think he just got his teeth fixed, they seem a bit weird for him, like he's not used to them yet. He certainly had a lot of teeth issues over the years.
If Clash came out now you'd probably never hear of them.
The money men control all the media and all you get bland Crap with nothing to say.
So seems he could see the future

that's one of the wonderful qualities of The Clash... they did exactly what the wanted to... and they said exactly what they believed was true.

@mikentosh That must be a rare one. I have the singles box set and it's not on there. They had a couple of good singles from that last 'album'.

Strummer is still intense and has something to say and do but without Mick and Topper the Clash could not really move forward.

Once Topper was out of the group is was seriously damaged and dying, once Mick was shown the door the Clash were done.
kaylah927 3 years ago 15
@kaylah927 Pretty much can blame it on Bernie Rhodes because Joe, mistakenly, trusted that rat.
