This game remains me so deeply, this is the reason why I 'm intersted in Dragon quest series even now. It was very very hard to finish without book. It's so difficult, and I feel all other dragon quest games seem easier.
I have to admit I prefer the way they handled the final battle music in the SNES and even GBC remake of this game. This is cool but I like how in the remakes they sort of slowed it down to make it more...ominous I suppose.
i think all japanese words used in this game are only sinple characters which japanese don't usually use for people's name and looks strange and very childish, if used in cradits. so english looks better. also japanese thinks english is better looking and suits for this kind of games. coz, english is still used in lots of new games credits...just my oppinions...
@hunnabunna12345 I think the use of hiragana in this game is also because of the size limitations they had back in the day. All Famicom games had hiragana, which leads me to that conclusion.
The ending tune is beautiful, it was used for the ending of the japanese cartoon Dragon Quest Dai no Daibouken that is one of the best series I've seen...
I have this with the original Dragon Quest 1 on the Gameboy Color. I'm shocked you're not getting into as many random encounters as I seem to be in the GBC version. The GBC games were unforgiving in that.
You didn't like VIII?! How?!?! It's got amazing graphics and it's even longer than the older ones! What's not to like? If you didn't like VIII then you won't like any of them, so don't look for this.
Random useless trivia: Akira Toriyama is infamous for re-using designs. For instance, the winged apes in DQ2 can be seen in Chrono Trigger, with a pair of horns in place of the giant ears.
I've never played the retro dragon quest games I've only got no.8 which is the one on the PS2 "Journey of the cursed king" brilliant game but I have to admit the music on this NES game is really disturbing, I like NES games like Metroid, Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda but this one is really tough to love on the NES.
okay anyone ever played "saint seiya" for NES because i downloaded the rom for it but im kinda stuck because theres no random battles to increase the levels of Seiya,im at the colisseum where i keep losing against guy called shiryu(i think)who keeps taking me down with one attack called dragon punch,i equipped the armour but it drains my power, everytime i die its back to the hossy i go
Ive noticed that in japan This Rpg game is known as dragon quest but in the u.s.a its called dragon warrior are they both the same game or are they different?

Quite epic for an NES game. Dragon Quest might actually be a pretty neat series I was wrong to judge it by that awful game Dragon Quest VIII.
kireikoori 4 years ago
It really is. I played all 4 when I was younger, and have I & II, but III & IV are pretty epic, but also pretty hard to come by.

i personally thought VIII was the best one.

What did you dislike about VIII? The only flaw (in my opinion) were parts of the plot.
