  • Great song great performance !!!!!!!

  • I like the fact that Dave Ball (half of the Soft Cell duo, after all) gets a chance to do something in this video, even if it's only to play the trumpet and turn the spotlight for a few seconds.

Also interesting how a silent torch singer with Spanish 1930s-style (?) looks is suddenly replaced by another with a different style (including no hair) who actually sings. It lets the audience wonder what that's all about.

  • This video is creative and evocative and enhances the song, which is fantastic to begin with.

  • adoro esse clipe é um dos melhores

  • great song from 83. I had just graduated from college and was into New Wave. I got my younger cousin hooked on it. She was stil in high school I think.. I used to tell her about new wave clubs that she was still too young to enter. Brings back lots of memories

  • Brilliant Brit Music

  • Another great group of the 80,s the best times ever much better than today great memories

  • ótimo, sem igual, inesquecível....

  • I got nicked when this was in the charts and it was on the radio in the station at the time. There was also a lad from a few doors down kicking off big time a few feet away...great memories!

  • ha ha .... nice one...never had radios at my local cop shop when I've been nicked!

  • Whoa - those were the good times?

Did you live in Armley Nick?

  • LOL, daft as it might sound, it was a good laugh. Just left school (May 82) and didn't give a fuck about anything...not in a bad way though, we were only having a doss, not attacking anyone.

    Comparatively innocent times!

  • I agree with that.. they did have an innocence.

  • I bought this when it first came out. I don't remember seeing the video. ...What hapened to music vids that were just people singing and not trying to be so clever and sophisticated? Hurrah for Soft Cell....

  • he is a poet ! a great voaclist

  • this is a rite song, gud party song, i luv the trumpet !!!!

  • That guy on the trumpet looks bored stiff. It is as if the agency rang him at the last minute and said "'Ello mate, we got a job for ya, £6 per hour, get yerself down to the BBC and ask for a bloke called Marc, he'll sort you out from there".

  • You mean David Ball ... the other member of the duo...???

  • thats cindi ecstacy i think nice girl

  • I am writing a play about the lads who fought in the Falklands war of 1982. This music brings back many a memory, of a lost, but not so far away era. If a picture paints a thousand words, then music paints a million.

  • Falklands? Those little islands near the botton of South America?

  • Why is it,you never hear this song?

  • I can see why you boys would fancy the arse off him, some women, don't look this good in make up.

  • Comment removed

  • was on my first date when this song was playing.

  • choon as all soft cell songs are

  • Best song ever made. Happy New Year Marc Almond. Thanks for this and everything else you do. Your a superstar and those who care treasure you.

  • muy buena cancion saludos desde disco-ritmo madrid, españa,from youtube...la honorable sociedad

  • May of '82.

Walking home from school, in the rain, totally annoyed at my Mum for not letting me wear drainpipes and white socks...

  • that sweater is amazing

  • This song really takes me back to the time it was released. I get the same feeling whenever I listen to "Geno" by Dexy's Midnight Runners or "Mirror In The Bathroom" by The Beat. Ha - perhaps it's the trumpet! There are quite distinctive trumpet sections in all three songs, now I think about it.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the trumpet - music's own time machine.

  • do u recon they got together in the end lol,,wonder if he won her heart

  • seriously doubt that seen he swings other way,lol

  • mark almond did have an interest in her, she was his cocaine suppler... and i'm not joking he admitted it on a biographic program a few years back

  • class......great stuff ..!!

  • The eighties, why did it bring us so much unforgetable pop music, what a great time to be young,in love with music and what a soundtrack we have to remember.

  • your right it was a great time to be a teenager. just been reunited with my ex from 1981, first girl i ever fell in love with and we used to danced to this so many times. great memories, you can`t beat a midlife crisis

  • im still with the same bird..haha...wife now as in 81

and nothing beats the back end of a mid life crisis mate..lmao

  • one of soft cell's best.

  • yep!!

  • Música de Bicha

    Gay Music!

  • this song make sme laugh so much espacially the trumpet bit

  • Bichona

  • Excelent Music!

    No Words!

  • Why cant I get that trumpet solo in a ring tone?

  • EXCELENT

  • This is the song my BF played in his room..got it in my head as soon as i listened to it.now this is our song .

  • still a sexy sax after all these years lol.

  • i love e

  • probably one of the best songs ever made/sung

  • fantastici

  • a story going round from when i was young was the really bad female vocalist near the end of the track was Cindy Ecstasy who used to supply the band and a lot of london clubbers at that time with the drug ecstacy.. i bet they where 'happy dayz'... can anyone confirm this?

  • Happy dayz were acid not ecstacy!!!!!

  • i'm not sure that's cindy ecstasy, Gazz - i know she performs an inept rap on another of their songs though! it's dead right that she turned them onto E though.

  • I have been a fan since the beginning and this is 'Cindy Ecstacy' - Soft Cell were interviewed on David 'Kid' Jensen radio show back in 80's and I remember they confirmed it was her in the video and that they had to make the video at 6am and that she was unhappy having to wear a bald wig!! It is also documented in Marc Almond's autobigoraphy 'Tainted Life'!

  • Yes - this is Cindy Ecstasy. Who'd have thunk someone who's had such a profound effect upon Western civilization made their inauspicious debut in the public eye with this guest appearance (erm...apart from appearing on the Memorabilia 12" that is....)

  • If you read Marc Almond's autobiography 'Tainted Life' it confirms that Cindy Ecstacy did get the band into E and that she was their dealer for a time and about the giggly recording sessions for the 'Untitled' Mambas album on ecstacy and acid!!

  • don't say that..this is unique..

  • FODA VIU

  • Great music, but video is it a shit!!!!!

  • I agree with every word !!

  • haha me too,the trumpet is totally appropriate!

  • i agree it wouldent be the song we love without the trumpet

  • he's just so adorable and small! and what a voice!

  • This song and Sex Dwarf are my favourite! i love Soft Cell!

  • Great song but rubbish video . . . too much focus on the poncey little tulip!

  • Cyndi Ecstacy.

  • Independente se ele é gay, a musica é épico

  • awesome song

  • Gay Gay !! what the fuck does that matter this is still a fucking great song

  • Bom anos 80's tinham muitos gay, mas as músicas são demais isso prova que gay sabe o que é melodia, e melodia é musica.

  • MUITO BOM

  • but good music!

  • Still the music is awesome...

  • breath taking!

  • makes me like him even more!

  • it's erotic* and wtf Marc is gay???

  • One of the best singles from Soft Cell and videos! Why do people have to be gay to like music by a gay singer? Get a life!!!

  • Fucking awesome stuff.

Couldn't give a fuck if he/you/anyone's gay or not...

  • Pity they don't promote quality diverse groups like this these days

  • Good Song!!!

    Gay Boy!!!

  • Great! One of my favourites from the 80s...

    cool video too

  • I love this song and am straight.

I've therefore just rocked the worlds of at least four posters here to their very sexual cores. I can look at a gay man without getting a guilty stiffy. So, ner!

  • Love this song.

    :D

  • Love this song.

    :D

  • This song is good, but the trumpet doesn't fit well...

  • "I'm on the way to Amarillo, while Marc is at home biting his pillow".

  • 71starboys probably a pillow biting uphill gardener too!

  • one of the origional emo dudez? me finks?

  • Minęło ponad ćwierć wieku, ale w dalszym ciągu słucha się tego przeboju z wielkim zainteresowaniem. To chyba coś więcej, jak tylko sama muzyka? To kawałek naszej historii.

  • Rooney68 - Must say that the comment about the trumpet being the size of Marcs rusty bullet hole , although not politically correct has set me off in a fit of giggles ,Very funny

  • you're obviously not very clever, are you?HAHA just a brainless, fascist little CUNT!!

  • language timothy

  • I LOVE SOFT CELL!

  • you suck willy aswell

  • rooney 68 you sound like a very tormented person in so much pain I feel very bad for you

  • i believe that the openening trumpet clip was to depict the size of marks rusty bullet hole after a slow night out at one of his specialist bars im not supprised at one point in his career he'd had a belly full{of man chunks} of the music industry anywho any one that likes this shit is gay dead or a twat a choice of three now come on girls whitch one are you now on to cliff richard batchelor boy first one again

  • rooney68 legend has it that marc wanted a TROMBONE at the start of his video but due to the rustiness of said bullet hole, couldnt find a volunteer to play it for him

  • This is the best!

  • Seeing Rooney, and homosexuals are getting hetero..

  • Haven't heard this for years. What a Fcking excellent tune.

  • these guys really gave sleaze to Rock and new Wave. Velvets first essayed these themes . Would love to find some ohers . , noone sounded seedy like this or AT LEAST i HAVENT HEARD . THIS MAN-WOMAN VOICE. THESE GUYS WERE SPECIAL .

  • It's weird how even after 25 years or more I still remember the words - yay!

  • You were probably like me and played it over and over again

  • wow ! I´ve allways liked this song. Now I know the name of the group, almost 25 years after listening it for the first time !

  • Muito legal

  • Fab song and Marc's voice is excellent on this!

  • Best Mark Almond track!!!

    I love it!

  • I adore this song, but I can't stand looking at Mark Almond in this video...

  • funny you should say that. i actually found your posting at the bottom of the screen when i scrolled down to avoid watching the vid. i remember this track vividly from mi yoof but having never seen the vid before didnt want to taint my imagened visuals that went with it. a bit like reading a good book then having your memory destoyed by watching a movie of it. in this case best heard and not seen. still love the song though.

  • tOP TUNE

  • Kijk, dit is nou WEL een mooie van Soft Cell.

Kan ik niet vaak genoeg naar luisteren.

  • SOFT CELL = THE BEST OF THE BEST

  • ayse ive been looking for this song for years, cos i didnt know what it was called. now i cant stop playong it, boy does it bring back memories.

  • Take me back Marc! Those were the days.

  • Marc is simply the best. Forget the Gay crap and listen to the music and the words. He wrote all his own stuff with Dave Ball. How many performers can do that!

  • lovely video and song. mark reminds me of boy george with all the makeup and dave looks like chaplin.

  • Cabrazo !!!!

  • My favourite Soft Cell song. Think it's much better than "Tainted Love".

  • A really unique but at the same time fantastic thrilling song. 1982.. I was only 1 yr old when it was in the uk charts. How comes Cindy E suddenly lost all her hair towards the end of the vid tho lol? ;-)

  • cindy was everyones dealer

  • what happened to her? just curious... ;)

  • top tune.......

  • how does anyones sexuality actually make topic of comment..????????????

it's all about the music and artistic endeavour for fuck sake.. >:=(
