Its a fox. I hear them all night at my dad's apartment. My dad and mom are divorced but anyway, I heard it at around 2:00 in the morning im only 11, and I was sitting there in the dark with my pillow in my face. I finally got up and told my dad about it, and we went tracking it the next day. It was a fox but when we saw it, the fox ran.

I've been searching for the past 2 years for what makes the sound that my son and I heard one night camping at our land so far nothing comes close . wish I'd had a recorder with me . I still get a little freaked out when I go up there at night . I have no idea what it was . hopefully I will have a video on here some day .

That is absolutely raccoons fighting. Ok, I live in a major city in California near the coast and I hear that racket every year in the summer when mama raccoons have had enough of their juvenile raccoons and they are chasing them off. We have a huge population of raccoons here that use the culverts to travel from neighborhood to neighborhood and we get them popping out after 9 pm and creating havoc.

We mostly have great horned owls where I live and they mostly make a quiet low hooting sound that's hard to hear.

That screaching noise is definately raccoons. I hear them on a nightly basis in summer.

Hahah one time I was watching snake feeding videos and the feeder rabbit screamed and then raccoons outside started screaching back! I kept replaying it and they replied each time!

Definitely raccoons. I hear them all the time around here, that noise is when they are fighting. The males fight for dominance, the females scold the males, it's a family fight you are hearing. They make those little hyena sounds too. You didn't say where you are, if you are in CA you might have ring tail cat sounds too.

Ive lived in the Florida woods my entire life and that sounds exactly like racoons fighting. They make a high pitch chattering screech just like that. The only woods noise Ive never been able to explain was a deafening long duration scream that sounded like iron pipes getting mashed togeather. I used to hear it almost 20 years ago. Never found out what it was but the dogs would get scared and nervous everytime it would come around the house at 3 in the moring.

thats what I think it is too, fisher cats ive seen them here, havent gotten one on video as they only come out at night, ive put my old digital video camera on my RC truck and drove it around near the woods to see if i could catch anything but so far, nothing. they like to eat the pine cones that fall off the trees so when i see one on the ground I chuck it into the woods for them lol.

I can't say for sure, as a hunter and someone who spends a great deal of time in the woods To me it sounds like you got the right preditor but it sounds like the prey making the noise, you ever heard a rabbit taken down by an owl or fox,,, Sounds just like that.

I wasnt even outside when I filmed this i was sticking my camera out the window actually I took a picture and stretched it so its in the whole vid and the audio is from my mp3 player i took a pic of the outside b/c if i did a video you wouldnt see anything anyway and the audio sample rate of my camera (11,025 mono) wouldnt be high enough to capture the sound as its too high pitched so I used my mp3 player which has a higher audio sample rate (about 22,050hz mono)
