  • Holy crap it's december! Thatd So long away! I could get pregnant tomorrow and leave the baby with a sitter to go see the movie!!! Sigh. Patience is not my virtue!!!

  • 3D is fading out now. ive only watched one film in 3D and i didnt enjoy it as much. the hobbit is the one movie i could stand watching in 3D... literally. i would stand through out i love the look of it so much :D

  • the only 3d movie i will watch :)

  • very good! one day i go to work with peter jackson! my dream is being one director movies's!

  • I have monocular vision, I don't see in 3D anyway. Now don't I feel left out...

  • @mushroomshrub Does that means everything is flat? Im sorry it looks like itll be a great film regardless

  • @tyknos93

It's okay, I don't mind. I suppose yeah, if you were to take my eyes for a day you'd see everything like an image on a TV screen; it would look flat to you. To me it looks normal though, as I've never known anything else. Roll on the hobbit either way!

  • when the movie is coming out is it only going to be in 3d? or 3d and 2d?

  • @Thewigger1 its going to be in 3d..

  • @Thewigger1 I'm sure there will be a 2D and 3D release. There are people that just can't watch 3D because it makes them sick, and to exclude them from spending money to see your movie seems stupid to me and out of character for a movie studio that will take money from pretty much anyone for anything.

I get massive headaches myself when watching 3D movies, but I'm going to suffer through it because OMG THE HOBBIT!!! LOL

  • @Effedup I wonder how many of those headaches are caused from conversions rather than native shot 3D.

  • Allthough i'm sure i won't notice the difference, it makes me sad they are not filming outside, but inside in studioes with props and sets for trees and growth...

  • @behemuth see until the end, they moved out of the studio to film in New Zealand utside

  • Blurr di Blur blurr blurrrrrrr!!!

  • i feel like such a geek sitting here in my 3d glasses.

i can't wait for this film to come out! aaaaaa!

  • Are we having fun?

    Everyone: yaaaayyy

  • kubrick wuda done it better

  • Andy looks so exhausted :(

  • 48 of those cameras, they are around 25 000 USD each, daymn!

  • and Harry Potter Fan disliked this video...

  • WTF are the top 2 comments EXACTLY the same????????

  • I would rather have them double the movie length than the frame length, but that's just me...

  • :DDDDDDD JOHN HOWE HAS THE SAME PENCIL SETS AS I DO!!!! <-------- day= made

  • @RuleOfTheInternet l0l good 4 u!

  • That artwork was awesome in 3D! I was giggling like a little girl

    So excited about this movie

  • 6:45 Aidan Turner!! WOO! <3

  • i'm sure this is gonna be awesome but unfortunately for me I cant see 3D

  • 5:30 I ship Bilbo and the banana ಠ_ಠ

  • 5:30

I ship Bilbo and the banana ಠ_ಠ

  • someone seriously needs to make 3D clip ons for people who wear glasses. they would make millions of dollars and satisfy us :(

  • Great video but when's the next one comig out I've been waiting for ages :/

  • This is exciting! Most of the budget is spent on the Red Epic cams!

  • I haven't been impressed by 3d thus far. But it does look like they are pushing the boundaries here, maybe I will pleasantly suprized.

  • Dammit Peter, I thought of all the directors that you would be the one to stay away from the festering pile of dung that is, 3D film. If there is no 2D option, I might have to put a real, three-dimensional, buring bag of cow dung on your doorstep.

  • Thank you so much for releasing these updates. We all appreciate them so much.

Both educational and magical. Cheers and godspeed, friends!

  • Exciting? I can't fucking wait!

  • At the beginning of this clip, I agreed with jedimastergimli. Now though, it really looks like they're thinking about it properly, and not just using it to be gimmicky, so I'll go out on a limb and say I'm excited to see this in 3D. I'm excited anyway, damn.

  • It was really interesting seeing how 3D is filmed...so many cameras!! I'm not really a big fan of it, simply because I've seen too many movies where the 3D part was just...meh. But, I have faith that will be absolutely awesome for The Hobbit =D

  • well i hope the 3D isnt the shitty type. if you are going to do a 3D movie do it right and shoot it with a 3D camera. they seem to be doin it right though

  • 01:12 bottom right corner !! :D and 02:33

  • wow. this 3D-Conceparts are really great!

  • =O HOW COME I NEVER SAW THIS IN MY SUB BOX =(

  • I feel like a kid och christmas morning every time I watch these video's, I dont think there's any word known to man that would describe how much I look forward to these movie's!

  • @Rex000z I've been listning to the audiobook again and again :D

  • soooo ridiculously excited for these films!!!!!!!!!! fjdkfjdkfjdkfjdfklj

  • Oh I hope all the movies will be shot at 48P of 60P from than on...

    I HATE 24P JUDDER!!!

  • 3D gives me such a headache...but if there's any film director I trust completely, it's Peter Jackson.

  • Gotta love Peter and all this behind the scenes stuff.

  • @royraiden i think its great that he does all this behind the scenes. he does this in person as well...explaining why things are done the way they are, and he is so nice in person as well!

  • Jesus look at those two guys talking about those drawings and actually drawing those simultaneously as they speak. I am really useless.

  • I had a pair of 3D glasses, I could not see it on the drawing though oO

  • No. This is amazing. It's not enough just to see the movie. I have to work with them...let's keep waiting til i finish my actuation course!

  • The HOBBIT 1012 YEAHHHHHH

  • @jedimastergimli they will release it in 3D, 2D, and Imax 3D.

  • I wonder what The Lord of The Rings would be like if they filmed it now...

  • @TheProShowJumper i agree with you about that. it would soooo AWESOME that no one ever could compare it to any other movies..... the ones trying to beat their record.. its such a masterpiece

  • @TheProShowJumper I would be curious to see that myself, but honestly, I would be a little worried that Peter Jackson would go all George Lucas and shit the bed with a "Special Edition" release that adds in a ton of crap and manages to make the movie a parody of itself.

  • if there is anyone who can make an excellent 3D movie it is jackson!!!

  • frantically searching for 3d glasses around the house :(

  • i squeeled like a litlle girl when i saw sir ian/gandalf........wow I'm a nerd.....and proud >:)

  • was that elijah O.o is he supposed to be in the Hobbit O.-

  • so excited to watch this :D

  • I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I so cannot wait for this!!!! ^^

  • Comment removed

  • Why is Peter "Fettbacke" Jackson fat again?

  • WTF WHY are you giving your cameras names?

  • I really really need to get in touch with someone that can give me an internship in this movie

  • omg, I love you for living that dream of doing such incredible things and pushing the limits! I am now so excited about the movie to come!

  • And what about viewers who can't watching movies in 3D?

  • Does anyone know when the Hobbit takes place in relation to the LOTR trilogy? I read the Hobbit a few years back, but I always remembered it as a few hundreds years ago.

  • @rocospi It's like 50 years before the Fellowship. That's not the exact amount of years, but it's not centuries.

  • @ProphetOpeth 60 years in fact

  • @rocospi it is 60 years before the Fellowship of the Ring.

  • He didn't mention in the beginning that 3D will also bring in more money...

  • @DiarrheaChain Does a property like this need 3d to draw a crowd?

  • @DiarrheaChain That's true, also this movies are gonna be the most expensed movies of all times.

  • Y U NO USE RED CAMERA FOR BLOG?!

  • not a fan of 3D, but if peter jackson says it's okay, i believe it's going to be spectacular

  • 04:30 he has 48 RED camera but he takes out his iphone to take a picture rofl

  • i love it

  • Say no to 3D ...

  • The blu-ray will be able in 2d. I'm sure.

  • Do they know that they can just make one drawing and than scan the image and change the color? (they have to,scan the images to merge them anyway)

  • @bluesDELUXEnl to make 3D, both the images have to be from a slightly different angle, so 2 identical images wouldn't work.

I happen to have a pair of those anaglyph glasses, so was able to see the nice 3d effect at 9:44. :)

Note that anaglyph 3d is somewhat more primitive than the 3d used for movies these days.

    Looking forward to the movie(s)!

  • Damn it, when are they going to release clips or a trailer for this film? I can't wait any longer.

  • AWESOME!

  • Peter Jackson is getting tubby again

  • @mrmagpie21 Hm, maybe it makes you fat to shoot a movie. All the yelling an eating...like a tenor.

  • Wtf 3d, I hope it's getting released in 2d also

  • Thanks for making these. Makes the wait a bit easier ... or harder actually, I'm not really sure. :D

  • I CANT WAIT!!! :D

    Best of Luck with Shooting!

(This will be my first 3D Film, and rightfully so!)

  • when can i buy my tickets <3

  • I think some films suffer from the 3D hype but the whole LOTR series is such a visionary piece of filmmaking that I think it would benefit from 3D

  • will we be able to see it in 2d?

  • @Silmirel Of course. They shoot with 3D cameras and can always be converted to 2D. Because they don't film twice with a 3D and a 2D camera just to get Harry Potter

  • I really hope there is an option for 2D for this movie.

  • @jedimastergimli 3D is made by two different 2D images overlapping one another, so there'd be a 2D version for those who want it.

  • @jedimastergimli there will be special glasses to see it in 2D, no worries

  • @jedimastergimli Of course. Although, this will be filmed in true 3D. Not the lame-ass, headache-producing, post-effects 3D that have been floating around in hollywood this last year.

  • @jedimastergimli It would suck if there wasn't, so far, The Hobbit looks great, but i find, putting in it would ruin it's originality.

  • @jedimastergimli Don't worry, there will be, it's been advertised. :)

  • Right! I'm going to start camping outside the theater tomorrow for my tickets!

  • @Strongholder123 Isn't it a bit too early? One year 'til release.

  • 3d = death of cinema.

  • yay I have 3d glasses but they came in the post when channel four did a 3D for a week and they're not the same shades as normal but they still work a bit

  • These graphics are enormous!! Great peter!

  • I'll FIND YOY ;)

  • AT LAST! l0l

  • Oh my God! I can't wait to see this movieee!!

  • I want to go to sleep right now, and wake up on time to go camp outside the theater to buy tickets for the premiere on late 2012!!!

  • I am not a fan of the 3D-hype. Most of the movies suffer from that couse the quality drops. The directors and producers focus too much on 3D and forget the rest. But this can be cool. Maybe that is when the hype is gone and the crew starts to make movies. The handling with the technology evolves and becomes naturally.

And: The synchronised drawing is incredible!

  • @lordoverride Totally agree, its a very common issue that they just focus on the 3D, but it seems that they wont forget about "the rest" in this 2 upcoming movies...I think it will be a great movie.

  • I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, the perfect end to a perfect day

  • lol at Gandalf with glasses

  • Omg! I love you for this Peter! Will you marry me?!?

  • liked before watching

  • Sweet! Can't wait.
