I have the CD. I do not know if it is still available. Mike is a wonder and a treasure. I saw him every time he came to Athens in the late seventies and early eighties. I was able to spend some time with him after concerts. He is as smart as he is talented. One great guy.
It's interesting to me the similarities between this song and Donovan's Goldwatch Blues.
I'm not accusing either one of plagiarism, especially since Irish/Scottish tunes are often shared by numerous musicians with different lyrics. I love Mike Cross and I grew up on Mike Cross' music - he's the exemplar of an underrated artist that deserves much more spotlight and credit
Give Goldwatch Blues a listen. It too is a great song.
@celticmagick I'm a huge Donovan fan as well as a huge Mike Cross fan. Can't believe I had never noticed those two songs sounding so similar. Thanks for pointing that out. You are correct! Nice to see someone else who is a fan of both.
Good old Utube, I missed a Mike Cross performance in Richmond ,VA some time in the middle to late 70s. There was this little sub shop in Richmond that had a bunch of posters from over the years that were advertisements for venues that had played in these clubs in this little area called the strip, it was around VCU.
One of the poster advertised a double bill of Taj Mahal as the headliner and Mike Cross as the opener.
I always wanted to talk to some one that had been there. must have awesome.
Hard to believe he never picked up an instrument till he got to UNC-CH. His son plays with him now and he is really good. But Mike is no slacker it just took years of practice. An amazingly talented individual.
This is a GREAT song! This is from an old cassette tape, but you can order the cd. I am going to order it, so when I get it I'll shoot you a message about sending it to you. I think you can buy the song as well. Try to google it.
Me either Matt, and in fact when I went up there which was roughly 20's ago, all I was listening to was Metallica/AC/DC, etc...Then he played some of this cd, starting with this one, and I got him to record it for me, and I like to listen to it every so often. I ordered the cd, finally, so hopefully the sound quality willbe good.
