I was working at Madrona Beach when it broke when it broke the sound barrier! I swear it was right over me, and when it happened I felt my clothes press against me when it flew over. Then car alarms proceeded to sound off. Pretty cool experience!
That did sound a lot like a sonic boom. You hear the boom and then you hear the jet noise, which happened here. The Blues never do that though so it is surprising it happened in such a populated area. Was there any press reports on it?
@gtc1961 - Actually - the 'solo' in the last half of the video isn't one of the Angels.
When their performance finished, Boeing put on a show. You might notice that it's painted grey rather than blue. Someone told me this one came out of Widbey Island?
I lived in Kern county where Edwards AFB is for 40 years. In the 50s and 60s, we where always hearing sonic booms.
In this case I barely saw it - it was silent until it passed overhead and BANG! Far louder than in the video.
@oldsport500 Yep, that sounds about right. I was in the Navy and our Tomcats would go supersonic all the time, sometimes at 200 feet! I was always amazed at seeing this 68,000 pund aircraft wiz by without a sound, then you hear the boom, then you hear the jet noise. I miss it!
Not super sonic, use common sense now. The F15's were heard all over the Puget Sound. Imagine what it would've done to everyone that close. Just click on a video of an actual fighter going super sonic and you'll understand.
@wazzuhell The F-15's did it at 30,000 feet, this F-18 did it below 1000 feet. The higher the aircraft is when it breaks the sound barier, the further the sonic boom will travel/be heard.
People reported broken windows in Leschi and many at the beach said they had short-term hearing loss. Lower air pressure & temp (bad weather) means the sound barrier MPH is lower and easier to break.

Did you see a cone on the aircraft....did it shake or break any windows? If not then it wasnt a sonic boom.
