  • It's neat that Tyson wrote it, if true. I love Ian & Sylvia ~ they also recorded a GL song or two.

I like to sing someday soon at a karaoke ~ I have the range for it, and not being a top 40 song, for most people, this is the first they've heard of it ! Hee Always loved Judy Collins in her soft and accurate elegant style. Wale on Judy, girl knows how to rock. Who knows where the time goes ?

  • Talent, Brains, Beautiful Blue Eyes, Great Legs and Sexy, what do you want??

  • 3 guys love their damn old rodeo more than they love this song.

  • I remember, way back in 1966, going down to New York City's Greenwich Village, to a little place called the "Cafe Wha?". Saw a Canadian duet called "Ian & Sylvia". They were absolutely great. This was their song. And during the intermission, we were invited "upstairs" to the Garick Theater where an unknown band called the "Mothers of Invention" were playing.

  • @Dandulude4848 WHOA, lol... "Wha?" is right!,

    <3.

  • I forgot how beautiful she is. Beautiful lady, beautiful song. Thank you Judy.

  • Great song. I first heard this about 30 years ago. Still gives me chills to hear it.

  • Now I know where actress ["Brady Bunch"] Maureen McCormick got her hairdo from!

  • Judy Collins is a goddess. I wish she were immortal.

  • this is my grandma!!! :)

  • @LuvSamanthaT Really?!,

    <3!

  • I would like to see the original version also. I have been buying her music since 1969. I think I(we) deserve a break. It saddened me to see her getting so far away from the original recording. She is one of the best pure singers I ever heard.

  • Can't believe such comments as "she rode the coat tails of Joni Mitchell" and "she looks like Lindsay Lohan". Please! When I was five years old she was at the center of my love for music, and I've spent my life of 45 years loving and playing music. I knew her before Joni Mitchell, and hoped if I were beautiful when I grew up, it would be her kind of beauty. No one really can ever match Judy's voice or beauty. She is one of a kind. Love you dear Judy!

  • @MeredithWaters

Just so! When I see or hear Judy, I always think how insightful (watch some interviews!), compassionate, interesting and original she is. If I'd been drinking water when reading comparisons to "LiLo" (WTH?), I would have spit it out all over my monitor (or maybe have chosen to drown, LOL).

Joni's coattails? They're not the same--the world needs them both. Didn't Joni give "Both Sides Now" to Judy when Judy had a record contract and Joni, time was, did not?

    <3!

  • @LitLBirdLitLBird Yes, I agree! To be honest I am not sure what LiLo really looks like LOL! And I do love Joni Mitchell as well. They are both unique, wonderful women, composers and singers that this world absolutely needs. <3

  • @MeredithWaters Absotively! Too boot, Judy's been a political activist for time out of mind. No matter one's stance--if one keeps it civil, intelligent, and fair (which Judy appears to do)--I have to admire that.

    A Populist,

    <3!

  • Beautiful lady. Got to see her in concert in Washington D C in 1969.

  • Ian and Sliva"s original version is better. Where do the song go?

  • Sweet Judy Blue-eyes.

  • Her best song. Steve Stills would pay radio djs to play it just to prove his love for this b lady.

  • I prefer this version better. This is folk music at it's best.

  • Judy is a great girl with a great voice ,,, but i much prefer the Suzy Bogguss version

  • I was sneaking into the Rose Hill gym at Fordham U and she was coming out the same door. This was '68 or '69 &, just an awestruck kid I just stood aside, as she passed. She shared the stage with Ian & Sylvia, that evening, another of my life-long favorites. A very pleasant & memorable evening in my life, for sure.

  • Such a beautiful woman, with an unbelievably beautiful voice. I believe her covers of other people's songs are among the most lovely in the world. She always does something original with each song to make it her own.

  • @bethany3844

I second that emotion! Ms Collins is a truly unique talent. A beautiful lady...inside and out! Thanks for an articulate, intelligent & thoughtful comment! CHEERS!

  • One of my all time favorite songs!

  • Judy reminds me of a woman I used to know but doesn't want anything to do with me now.I often watch this clip to remind me of her.I hope she'll forgive me one of these days.I really miss her!

  • Beautiful song, gorgeous voice.

  • Wow she looks alot like

    Lindsay Lohan

  • This song always reminds me of my mom. My dad would put it on the CD mixes for our family car drives and she would sing along whenever it came on :)

  • I'm pretty sure the drummer is a woman.

  • @iw32 it says so in the description

  • Royalties and income are affected by copying devices from the tape era to disc to digital are an ethical question for listeners. On the other hand home recordings help promote performers to people who may not have heard them. Now it takes long tours to create after concert sales and that's hard on performers. It is a real concern. Technology, like any tool can be used in many ways. I feel if you like a performer and have copied enuf material, you should have the moral duty to buy something.

  • Ahhhhh....The days when performers actually sang and played their original songs LIVE. With no computerized ampage or sync-drum beats. Whatta concept! SWEET Judy Blue Eyes - fer sher, dude!

  • I must believe it's an early rendition of the song, and perhaps evolved into the beloved single version soon thereafter. Beautiful song either way!

  • @stegg17 Actually no. The album it's from, "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" was released right around Thanksgiving of 1968. I know because I haunted record stores waiting for it; it was and remains one of my favorites. Her appearance with the Smothers Brothers was taped after that.

  • Wrote her a letter just before I went to Viet Nam in 1969 she answered too Always loved this song.

  • krap shut the hell up looser you always seemed to pop up outta no where and give people krap shut it looser

  • Judy Collins has talent and looks to spare.

  • Drop-dead gorgeous!

  • Oh yes back to the days when talent was far more important than vanity, sublime...thanks for posting.

  • there on the albumb "Someday Soon", her best record consistantly good....

  • "Voices of the angels, ring around the moonlight. Asking me, she said so free, How can you catch the sparrow? Lacy lilting lady, losing love lamenting, change my life, make it right, be my lady"

Now I know what Stephen was talking about.

  • WATCH OUT, WMG IS GOING AFTER EXTREMEMLY OLD MUSIC NOW THAT THEY BOUGHT OUT THE ORIGINAL RECORDING COMPANIES OF CAPITOL, COLUMBIA, ETC... AND ARE DELETING THE AUDIO AND REPLACING IT WITH OTHER CRAP - SOME OF THE MUSIC REPLACED NOW DOESN'T EVEN MATCH THE VIDEO'S -= THEY CALL IT COPYWRITE INFRINGEMENT, EVEN THOUGH NO ONE IS MAKING MONEY FROM POSTING THEM OR SHARING THEM ONLINE!!! IT'S ALL CORPORATE GREED!!!!

  • I love this song. Thank You..

  • Stephen Stills taught her this Ian Tyson number. It was a hit for her.

  • Does anyone have a copy of her original record to add to YouTube? All these videos so far are disappointing variations/live recordings she (or others) made of her own song. I would like to listen to the original version as played on the radio.

  • @karpaydeeum Did you ever consider BUYING a copy. Probably cost you 99 cents on iTunes or Amazon. Then you can listen to it whenever and wherever you want.

  • @betahifi No need to take offense (as suggested by your emphasis using capital letters) just because I prefer her original record release to her live performances. To answer your question, yes - I have bought this song (on 45 and tape). I felt, however, that it would be convenient to listen to it on YouTube while on my computer where others would be able to enjoy it as well (which is why I made my post). Since your answer to my question would seem to be "no" you needn't have bothered.

  • @karpaydeeum Hi there! My concern was not that you prefer her studio recording of this song over her live performance. My concern, and it is Judy's too, is that so many people now expect that they should have access to all the studio recordings for free, with no royalties going to the singer or the songwriter. Even when it now costs less than $1 to go out and buy the song. I view this channel as a resource for viewing historical live performances, most of which are not commercially available.

  • @betahifi And if they are commercially available, such as from one of Judy's DVD products, they are posted here with her approval. I know that there is a trend on this site to post audio clips of commercially available studio recordings. I have posted a couple of her new songs, but only as a way to generate interest in an entire new album. But I don't support making vast amounts of an artist's studio recording legacy, nor every cut from a new album, available for free.

  • @betahifi Have you ever tried to buy ANY recording of ANYTHING Edith Piaf did that wasn't live? I have, I can't find one. ANYWHERE. I tunes doesn't have it, I can't find it on YouTube, or amazon, I own most all of her albums on vinyl and it's not there. I think what betahifi might be getting at is that some of these things aren't commercially available and music must be passed on from some old radio jockey who happens to have a reel that he converted to digital before it disintegrated.

  • @Eugen987654321 Try eMusic. They have a great selection for other types of music as well, but they have really stocked up on the classics.

  • @karpaydeeum I agree, the original album cut version is the best, bar none.

  • @karpaydeeum Sure, I'll post it for you someday soon. Seriously! Maybe tomorrow...

  • @karpaydeeum You can hear this in good quality on Grooveshark

  • @karpaydeeum

Original albums are still in print and easily available, this live performance is special because its practically unknown to most of us - myself I love live recordings as they always bring something else to interpretation

  • GREAT LEGS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She's got one heck of a set of legs on her :)

  • @KoalaBearWarrior

    Suite: Judy Blue Legs

  • The drummer looks twelve years old.

  • @iw32 good call. also looks like it's a girl drummer.

  • @cool2kit I thought so too.You can't really tell,can you?

  • Those were good days and at the time, we just didn't know it. Perhaps, these are good days also and, once again all of us can't see it. But, gosh darnit, I wish they would stop printing and spending money in Washington... I'm scared to death!

  • mhm ich kenn den song durch das och so oder anders von peter cameron und muss sagen: sehr geil!

  • No woman would follow me through any road, tough or easy.I'm a total worthless loser! :(

  • The Canadian Indian birdwoman....wonderful!

  • A dickie what?????How is your bird...

  • I'd just like to say, I'm 16 and I love this song, a good song isn't trapped by generational barriers.

  • i love this song so much. what a beautiful voice, and just such a great live performance. they just do not make music like this anymore. music today = sad state of affairs.

  • Hey, Judy C has legs!! ....ah, you poor folks who missed the mini skirt years! Walking down the strip in LA on a hot summer evening in 1967....Grateful Dead blasting out on the side walk from the club, fresh smelling Cal. girls with long shiny hair, beads, sandals and those great skirts. LEGS everywhere. Fun to watch my 18yr old girl friend try to get into the back seat of a 2-door car! Legs & cute bottoms e v e r y w h e r e !! You kids missed a super time to be young!(...nice singing Judy!)

  • The Smother Brothers= genius.
