@EyelinerHomocide Actually, David Bowie did not perform any of the contact juggling in Labyrinth. The master of contact juggling, Michael Moschen, did it by standing behind Bowie and sticking his arms around in front of Bowie.

@ROlegoProductions More semantics my favorite. Butterfly has several variations including the Windshield Wiper, Figure 8, Reverse Figure 8 and the ever popular Isolated Reverse Figure 8, hehehe.
@lordmarcoxd No 2.5" or 63.5mm - It is a lacrosse ball -Check the wikipedia for more info on lacrosse - I tried to add a link but I kept getting an error.
I used lacrosse balls as my Legacy Ball for years. Since a lacrosse ball is always the same specifications no matter who makes it. My favorite practice ball is hard to get it is a 90mm Ledraplastic ball.
even I'm german I understand the most of the tipps that you gave :D I'm just at the beginning of contact juggling and can't even do holding the ball on the back hand >_> but I think it's ok and I will get it in a few time, so thank you this vid's great!
@Exiled44 Funny you should say that. I looked over the LegacyCd and I have a bit and a bob about spinning but not much. There are many reasons for that. 1. When I started I learned everything I knew from the flyer in the Chinese Exercise ball box. 2. I actively avoided learning the pyramid for 1992 reasons. 3. I learned a trick that you can't even see. 4. I helped make Sphereplay - Playing in the Multisphere - So check that DVD out for tons of multiball lessons - I also loved Multiball Contact
@Eluneminati I highly recommend trying my 'New First Lesson' and checking out the 'Ball Workshop' as well - They both were created after myself and others had the same problems you did. Throwing and Catching on the back of the hand can cause quite a lot of damage if you are not careful.
@Eluneminati hahaha I nearly murdered my xbox and my tv with my fushigi (hey I know there are alot of hard feelings towards fushigi, but I saw it at my local walgreens and I had to buy it. its the first time I started doing CJ. I had never even though about it untill now)
good lesson, i learned both the butterfly and the around the world in a matter of hours. I took the skin off of a softball and used the inside ball as my first contact juggling ball, and it worked quite well actually
@a1exandearth That sounds cool. I will have to try that. I have some Softballs that are covered in different materials and some that are painted. If you liked this lesson you should check out 'My New First Lesson' and 'Ball Workshop'. They are both from the LegacyCd. I created the LegacyCd as a complete set of starter Contact Juggling and Sphereplay lessons. Most of the LegacyCd is posted here and I have created a playlist for it.
@BobioRules - Any Ball you have will work. In My Ball Workshop Video I say - Use the ball you have even if it is an orange - Use the ball you can get - Use the ball you like - I don't like baseballs but if that is all I have then I love them. I recommend buying a lot of different balls and trying them all. The Main Ball I practice with is a LedraPlastic 90mm and it is impossible to get. No one really makes a 90mm practice ball and 90 mm is very close to 3.5" - Have FUN and ENJOY
The butterfly works by the way, thanks fore that lessen ;) But is there a trick to do the back to back? Like puch it more than role it? Or do you have to do something with youre hands or something? Because wathever i try the ball go's everywere exept my other hand :'(
Sorry for the delay in replying back - If you want to get smoother with the back to back transfers just practice that from Cradle to Cradle. So Cradle it on the back of the left hand and then roll it to the Cradle on the back of the right hand and back. It is a trick onto itself and can be done vertically from about your face to your waist and it gives an interesting staircase effect. I forget the name of the trick. I know it is not the Dave. That is a great trick by the way, The Dave!!!!!

i have watched this video 2 times now and i can tell that this is the perfect video to start on. i haven't been able to get it down that well. this is my first contact juggling ball and its acrylic so its hard to work with. but i have one main problem. i am a skinny bony teen. is there anything that i can do to make this easier??
Use a softer ball like a lacrosse ball which is what I used in the video. Check out my Ball Workshop YouTube video and see the different types and sizes of balls. A stage ball will work as well. I would avoid a tennis ball as I find them too light, except you might try that for the start. Let me know if you have any other questions.
I, also, was influenced by David Bowie's preformance in Labyrinth, but forgot about it for a while until today when I saw several of the residents at a local Renaissance Festival doing this.
Needless to say it took me less than a minute to locate and buy one of these balls ((I've got a wooden one for now, but I plan on upgrading when I've got it down, though))--But I've been practicing all day and this video really helps; thanks! ^^
This is a Lacrosse Ball. They are 2.5" in size about 63mm and solid rubber. I chose it as it is a standard. I am 6 feet tall so this is a small ball on me. The ball choice was on purpose as it is good for kids thru most adults. Also saying Stage ball or some other type of ball is not a standard. Be careful not to make the ball too HEAVY as the back of the hand will be over taxed.
My preferred size is 3.5" metal, horrible for lessons like this because of the catch crush oweeee concept.
Yeah, I was influenced by the movie Labyrinth to begin contact juggling [David Bowie in tights, I mean really XD] and I finally found a ball I could work with. At the moment I'm doing pretty... suckish but your video is definitely helping tremendously. Thank you very much! :]
When I received my Acrylic ball, it came with a DVD, in the DVD I was tought that a butterfly was just a windshield wiper with a dip in between. Not the same thing you showed in this video...
I am not trying to be contrary to what was on the DVD you watched. The butterfly taught in this lesson was the lesson James Ernest gave me a few years ago. He later wrote some book or something. The full butterfly he taught me is a back to back transfer in the middle of a roll over the tips of your fingers. The roll over the tips can be a figure eight / reverse eight or a windshield wiper. The one that most people remember is that one that was in Labyrinth which is the figure eight version.
Thanks - I hope to have a downloadable lesson disc in the next month - The LegacyCd - 8-8-8 version with the Dream Machine - It will have this lesson + a bunch more on it - The LegacyCd 5-5-5 version has been around for 3 years but it was not easily downloaded - I hope to remedy it this time.
Its gonna take me 2 weeks to do step 1.You advance like its easy.Gimmie a break, this is impossible.
