theravadians dont say all need to attain buddhahood but nirvana, the eternal bliss.. theravada buddhisum is the pure buddhisum. u can find it in countries like Sri Lanka, Myanmar(Burma), Thailand and India. According to lord buddha's prediction, the buddhisum is going to be last for 5000 years and its going to be in Sri Lanka. Just wanted to educate u.

May all the living beings be free from endless suffering...!!!

okay dont take this the wrong way. But there are like what...over 1,000s way to the proper Dharma (as the buddha said). so Theravada isnt the "pure" way. How is it pure when u say its going to end in 5000 years (after the Buddha died). Nothing is pure dude. everything changes. And what is wrong with 300 million buddhas from china? you dont like yellow buddhas? 300 million cant enter Buddhahood? Theres a limit to club "Buddhahood"? jeez.. that suxs :/

it says everyone is a future buddha... this is wot mahayana buddhist believe in. but theravada buddhist rejects this. we all can become buddhas but it will take too long according to theravada buddhisum. so we all need to attain nirvana and not the buddhahood. coz there have been only 7 buddhas born so far since the birth of this earth. so if the whole china is waiting to be buddhas, i mean 300 million people.. its a joke.. so what theravada buddhists say is right..

@nakedzen01 I think the problem here is focusing on unimportant things like the definition of Buddha (sorry for starting it :D). In the end it's all about ending suffering and whether you reach it yourself or with help from a teacher makes no difference so I agree with you about that.

I don't want to whine but "everyone will be a future Buddha" is incorrect. Everyone will be an aharant, but Buddha is the kind of aharant who discovers the four noble truths without the help of others (like Gotama Buddha did).

@embassyhill it's ok, during very old days, in chinese they don;t have this word (arahat) so they borrow the word buddha to represent arahat, its just human language, let it go :) sammasambuddha is our Buddha: Shakyamuni Buddha is our Buddha and therefore no way we can be Shakyamuni Buddha. Sometime chinese use buddha to represent bodhisatva also .. humans all have their own language, the ego still there, its normal especially those who never believe or learn in loba dosa moha yet. _/\_

I have a friend who has the most irrelevant

sarcasm on things I often said. I have an unstoppable inner chatter, of which words and thoughts I shared with him, but at times, all that I got was his sarcasm. So I often turn to listening to this chanting of metta to get over his cold sarcasm. It works.....It always works..When I know a litle bit of Buddhist teachings, what is worth fighting for credit that does not last?

When we keep our 5 precepts pure, inner chatter will stop. Our mind becomes clear, concentrated

1) Abstain from Killing living beings

2) Abstain from Stealing

3 )Abstain from sexual misconduct (except for husband and wife)

4) Abstain from lying (gossip, harsh speech, unwholesome speech, idle chat)

5) Abstain from intoxicated drinks and drugs

Listen to dhamma talk regularly and meditate too. Hope that will help you to be free from all physical and mental suffering May you be well be happy!
