I drive a snow plow and I can tell you there is a strong possibility that the operator doesn't even know he/she hit anybody. It's not like a car, the driver would not have felt a thing. Secondly every driver is given a certain route which they must do and write down the end times for each street plowed in that route so it shouldn't be a big mystery as to who was driving that particular route at the time of the accident.

I´ve plowed for manny years, I can tell you, when your crusing down the road and the plow is pounding against hard snow you realy can´t tell if you hitting anything other than snow. sometimes the snow explodes up against your wind shield, and for a few seconds (which in some cases can be like along time has past) you don´t see anything in front of you.

I've just put 120 hours in this past week, driving plows. How much of that time do you think was spent watching the news?

As a snow plow driver myself, what happened in this video is something I think most of us in the industry are always hoping will never happen. It's a tragedy that this woman was killed.

It is very possible that the driver did not know that he hit her, especially if she was wearing dark clothing, like most people. And if he was out plowing snow for long hours, he may not even have been aware of the news story asking him to step forward.

The other thing I've seen a lot of is people who just don't have the sense to stay off the road. Whether right of way is an issue or not, if you see a plow coming, get the hell out of the way! I know the sidewalks can be useless, but I see it all the time where people don't even TRY to stand aside. Yeah, I know people get tired and in a tunnel vision 'zone', and are just concentrating on getting where they are going, but...

Anyway, It's terrible that this happened.

People, PLEASE! If you're going to go walking on the road side in the snow, especially when it's still snowing, and even more so at night, then invest in a good high visibility vest or jacket. It WILL make the difference between whether not just the plow drivers, but any drivers can see you. I think most of you don't realize how invisible you become out there.

Do it for your own sake, and those who love you. And try to stay OFF the road side as much as possible.

i live on that street just a few houses down and my sister knows the woman's son and it was very tragic now our snowplowers are (i think trying to get rid of the risks. the snow plow boss lives across the street from me and he was there when the ambulance came, but it was too late.

also the man knew he hit the woman and didnt stop and then the person who was behind him didnt see the accident and also ran her over.
