Dennis Yost came into my work area to get some shoes for his wife but we had no slippers. His speaking voice was almost the same as his singing voice.
I hate to burst everybody's bubble....but the original Spooky was an instramental. and the best Spooky of them all. Mike Sharp made it and it was such a great song that Dennis Yost wrote the words to the tune and had a hit also.I knew Dennis Yost.... we discussed this and he agreed with everything tnat i just wrote in the comments box.....as a matter of fact if you go to Dennis Yost tribute the one with the guy with the brown coat on....that is me playing the saxophone....
@faqu100 Right On, man. I appreciate the info. I believe you...that the original Spooky was an instrumental, much like Grazing in the Grass was before Friends of Distinction recorded it. Just to clarify...the reason I put "original studio version" in the title is because most, if not all the other versions posted on YouTube aren't the version of Spooky I used to hear on the radio, this one is. Thanks again for listening and the comment...Peace
@faqu100 The "whys & Wherefores" don't matter. What matters is, this is a classic song, I would guess the most loved version. I know Atlanta Rhythm Section did this song and it was good but this one is better.
@Idelia412 Thats interesting. I have excellent stereo sound from this recording and don't notice anything missing...and nobody has ever left a comment about that before?
@deejayroyalt1 nothing wrong with the sound,it has good separation and no drop out.the problem is with his eqpt i think.top tune by the way,and love atlanta's version too
Cobb, Nix and Daughtry in the Classics IV later joined ARS and re-recorded this song which was written by Classics IV saxophonist Mike Sharpe (Shapiro) and Harry Middlebrooks, Jr.
The first time I heard this song was the week of Christmas vacation when living outside L.A. It hit number 1 on KHJ Radio in L.A in January 1968. I have always liked this song. THANKS FOR POSTING THE ORIGINAL!!!!!!
@OldSpiceRatherNice Many, many thumbs up to your comment. I'm not a "girl" anymore, moved past that long ago, but "spooky"...should be used by we ladies at appropriate times even when we're a tad bit "older."
@flydadj Thanks for the comment. You're the second person to mention "love is kinda queer" being said in the song. I don't doubt that its true either. I guess this may not be the "original" original version, but i think it's definitely more original than the other version posted on YouTube. If you find the one your talking about here on YouTube it would be cool if you sent it my way to check it out! ....Peace
this what it should sound like, all original recording.accept no re-recordings.however,attraction pictures like these may help people to remember great songs.
The absolute best this song gives me chills and the memories are endless. These were the greatest of times I love this song and Dennis Yost was amazing. Where has life gone never forget my friends never forget.
You never know what you listen to most, but it's this one for me. It's had more plays on my iTunes list than any other track, something that took me by surprise. It was played in the cafes, bars and night clubs in the late 60's, in England. It suited the mood in the evening. Fantastic - and yes, thanks for the original.
@peteporter Or a 59 Impala. Brings back memories of warm summer nights at the drive-in with my then girl friend and the things you could get up to in a car with that much room to play, LOL!!! The girl is my wife of nearly fifty years and the Impala,,, well, It's in the garage, Still fire engine red, 409 4 speed and runs like the day is was new. And yes, it sports fender skirts and twin rear antennas. Life is good.
@peteporter my college roomate also had a 66 Caprice with a 4 track player under the dash ! Made many roadtrips to visit friends at U of ILL. champaign. "Chances r " and various other college clubs.

@faqu100 Wait a minute, I played the glockenspiel on this great song! Unfairly,
the studio took me out of the mix, then, although I was wearing a distictive yellow
jacket, I never appeared in any photos. Just kidding, the sax playing on C4 was
great!!!

It would have been the perfect song for Scully and Mulder. Perhaps someone out there will create a montage from "X-Files' with the two of them.
