Does anyone recall the story behind the 'Gercha' ad ? I remember reading that they got an old guy in who used to do the lighting for old black and white films to light it. After watching him set up his lights they decided that the old boy had lost it but let him continue planning to re-shoot after he had gone so as not to offend him. When they watched the rushes they realised that the old fella had absolutely nailed it and they ran with the footage they had, But I can't recall the old guys name
Robert Krasker (El Cid, The third man etc) was the name of the lighting guy I was trying to think of but I still can't verify if the story regarding the production team thinking that he was past his best and were only letting him go through the motions so as to be kind to the old chap. Bob came out of retirement to light the Gercha ad and sadly passed away the following year in 1981
Incredible. I used to drink Courage's . I drunk in pubs like that. Good beer. But now pubs have been killed by the healthy diet, no smoking brigade. Wood Green Jazz Club without fag smoke. It's just not real. Never ate a healthy diet and never been that keen on TV dinners. Drunk beer since I was 14 and smoked since I was 12. Now I'm 70 but I've got a hell of a lot of memories. None of them about lager or soya. Yeah I've got COPD but drive a 1980 kit-car. Lets live. 'I Have No Regrets'
pure class,i live next door to the pub in the first ad,it`scalled the pineapple in hercules road ,lambeth london and it hasn`t changed much in over 140 years,if you wannna visit a proper london pub look no further,
Had a few pints down the pub last night. I dont reckon it'd sell in the US. Its not a cold lager, more a luke warm ale/bitter. Its lovely though, a real good ol english beer
Totally amazing -- I saw the second and third ads here on a video collection but never knew who was doing the music (I thought maybe it was Steve Marriott in a light moment). THANK YOU!
They were already songs that they changed actually. "Gertcha", "Rabbit", "If he comes round here". Wicked stuff, back to childhood in East Ham (Newham)
Oh, the memories come flooding back

@jcn01 They still sell Courage in my local, and it's sold in bottles at the off license. So I suppose they do, but maybe it's not commonly found?
Don't have answers to the others, but they might be on the Chas & Dave wiki...

@timsarmchair . thanks but, so corage dissapeared from earth?, how s that?
jcn01 11 months ago
@jcn01 'Gercha' is from 1980, 'Rabbit' and 'Nothing More Important' are from 1981.
You can see the rest of them if you Google "Arrows Archive".
...and you can still buy a pint of Courage today.

Awesome Ads'. I remember these, although it took some remembering!
Shame Courage is not still around as an out and out brewery. I hate the way many regional breweries have been merged or folded in the last 30 years.

If only we had great ads like these nowa days.
Of course these days your hardly aloud to advertise alcohol, and the ones that are advertised are some crappy stuff, not a proper ale or bitter.

Thanks for posting these! Courage Beer made adverts based around seven different Chas & Dave songs:
Gertcha
Rabbit
The Sideboard Song
What A Miserable Saturday Night
Margate (actually based on their earlier Massage Parlour)
That's What I Like
Wallop!
I've found the first 6 but I'm still looking for 'Wallop!', do you have this?

"Turn That Noise Down" was another one of their hits, circa 1981 this time. I haven't heard it on radio since it came out.
