Eric Burdon & War sent a little 'revolution' through the radiowaves- to the people, with this very hip dream-with-a-beat. It really was like nothing I had ever heard before or since. When they came to town, I was there.
Records with a cut groove in plastic and analog recordings were sweeter sounding than todays hard glassy digital CDs. The records sounded well oiled, smooth , going down. And you can play a record with a tin foil cone attached to a common pin, and get the sound. A million years from now the Records will be playable and the CDs meaningless. Plastic Groove, is what they will know about us, when all our fancy junk is unintelligible scrap junk . Think about that. Save Records.

A song that represented the dream of every teenage boy at the age of 18 ( that's how old I was when I first heard it), Even at age 59, it has not lost its appeal.
Ok it's 1970.................college in Miami, Floridia is off the hook...........yes we cracked the books...........but the parties the clubs! Anyhow the hottest and I mean hottest club in Miami at the time was the 'Hump' at the Marco Polo........just south of Golden Beach where the homes were millions and the cops busted anything that seemed to move alone A1A (Collins Avenue).
Spill the Wine is played to death over every local station....and the house band at the Hump..do a fantatstic cover!
on here for my 3 year old...she LOVESSS this song. she asks me everyday...put on the YOU WINE, BIG BAD BIRD song. she made her own words but bellows like a pro!!!
@Mimigidget waht are the actual lyrics? "Spill the wine! Take that girl!" that's what I bellow anyway, and your an inspiration, kids are impressionable,it's nice to hear that your raising her on decent music and she actually likes it, gives me hope for the future of music.
dizzydaves2007 thanks for responding ,...I love vinyl and I have a large collection so I will definitely check out the "Nitty Gritty Model Record Cleaning Machine" . If it cleans the scratch-noise from the recording , I'll use it. However I may keep some of the low-level "clicks and pops" just so I don't forget it's an LP. They're almost part of the song!
@theDRUMFIENDZclique Me too! an episode of 411 from around the year 2000...the segment where they travel to Canada...only recently did I learn the name of the song, and I'm quite glad I did!
The chorus is often misheard, but the proper lyrics are "Spill the wine, take that girl, spill the wine, take that pearl." The "Pearl" is a sexual reference, meaning the clitoris,
@nicenonya3, It's take that pearl. If you google Songfacts/Spill The Wine, you will get a description of this song from WAR drummer Harold Brown. He would know, he was there and co-wrote this song. Peace.
@dizzydaves2007 Could you give more info. on the "record cleaner " you mention above,...and thanks for the post, it is one of several great songs by War and brings pleasant visions of 70's dancing in my head.
Hey, I read the Bible, and I love this song too. If you really read it and rightly divide the Word, it will set you free; not imprison you. Peace Out...
