i think it is huge breakthrough and necessary. For people that travel overseas you see how much further ahead the US is when comes to a disability then many other countries. i think that deaf need this, for thos who disagree-it cheaper to have them work then to have them on assistance. i wasnt aware about online captioning so it is great people are bringing it to forefront.
Because with the closed caption the viewer can choose what language they want the subtitle to be. Check out ma channel i just made a vid about Caption and Subitles
It is easy to make a video that is captioned to work on an iPod. After adding captions with MovCaptioner, export your movie with the captions as MPEG-4. This will combine the text and video into one track and the sound on another. It will then play on a video iPod.
I have a hearing problem and wear hearing aids. I can't imagine what it must be like for those that can hear nothing. I have trouble with some videos and would like the option of putting it on any video i receive.
Windows movie maker enables you to implement captioning..have a look at mine...it isn't set to a black background..but I am happy with the end product..albiet..text needs a different colour
he actually starts out saying" what he is first saying is "you know up to know there has be a lot of talk about closed captioning problems and you can't see them online. looking back 25 years ago..."
the technology is cool but it doesn't match up with what he is actually signing. he is giving a summary of what he wrote online in his own words and this is a cut and paste job.

Because subtitles are language translations.

Actually the difference is that CC is a hallmark for the deaf as subtitles are basically a translations including English visibly.

subtitles is an interpretation and not necessarily word for word, as in foreign language movies. captioning is word for word

Mac users might want to try MovCaptioner ($22 shareware). Look for it on Versiontracker or MacUpdate. It's real easy to use.

Great comments. What program you use to put subtitles on top of your video?

Thanks.
