Donna Donna brings me back to my childhood in Central Vietnam! All versions are sad though different meanings. This version in Vietnamese is about a man returns home and sits at a mossy door step and remembering his childhood with his mother, he cries and all memoirs returns...This is new version and especially with Tam Ca band.

This original song is Yiddish theater song, most popular in English version and French version, both versions are different in lyrics but with same meaning about life but not totally matched, English version is about a calf with desire of freedom, and French version is about a man, when he was a child want to be an adult quickly and pursue dreams, but when experienced many difficulties which empty hand left over, suddenly think about childhood in cuddle hands of mom, he cried. just like i cried

To answer boobytrapzap - this song is not about Holocaust. It first appeared as part of a Yiddish Theater in NY in 1930s before Holocaust really started. I guess you can say that it is an eerie premonition...
