Her all time best; I still remember when it came out. I was in 8th grade and my girlfriend had this record and we would play it over and over when I went to her house. Her mother even liked it and would play records with us. I thought that was cool until years later at our high school reunion she told me that he mother confessed that she could keep her eyes on us if she listened with us. We both laughed because both of our mothers are gone now and hers pulled the wool over our naive eyes.
how do you make it sound so clear when you are playing it on the record player and recording it at the same time please tell me b/c i am going to start doing this
I record the sound into a minidisc recorder via the headphone socket on my amp, so that I then have a digital signal to work with. I feed that into my computer as a .wav file and then I just match up the silent video and the music using Windows MovieMaker. Simples.
@jimmytheferret oh ho !! bringing back the memories now ! yea, yea, yea it takes two ! what a tune, remember it from way back in the day it has that magic motown authenticity that was so original and great in those early recordings, first heard it in the early 60s in the last chance saloon and the scene club, many thanks for posting, sometimes you hear a song and its like being back there all over again, isn't it ? if only eh ? thanks again, regards dave
Late 1963, Lola Valley Jr. High, Redford, Michigan. Me and Sheri Sparks (and this song) together forever. Didn't work out, but still dig her and this song!
these were great songs during a more innocent times of the 60's when we didn't know our ass from jelly donut i saw mary at a lounge show in vegas when i got married in '75 i could'nt believe my eyes that there she was no more than 10 feet in front of me singing her heart out in front of a casual,drunkin',stupid audience of white idiots that would never be able to appreciate what they were witnessing, they were talking and laughing and not even paying attention to this living legend-
I just loved how Mary used the different shadings of her voice. Initially, Bye-Bye-Baby, a bluesy sort of guttural tone, then on to the mid register in her voice, You Met the Sweetest Boy and You Beat Me To The Punch, and then on using her upper register as demonstrated on this tune. What a voice. (The first lady) Motown.)
The Smokey and Mary Motown alliance was magical and even mystical at times. "I wanna do my share, to show you that care, cuz a one sided love will never do, you gotta show me that you love me too; cuz falling love all alone is just no fun." What?! What two can easily do!
Great song with a sophisicated arrangement & sublime vocal from Mary & many of us wore out many 45rpm's of this classic...a Diva who had a sound all her own...Bravo Mary!
let me find my skates........;-]

An old 'youthclub disco' classic from my own youth...
...many, many moons ago. :-(
There's also a more uptempo version by the Marvelettes on Tamla. Both are nice.
