I'm cruel to my broccoli. I slice that fucker up and laugh. If you eat enough vegetables you gain the ability to hear them scream >:) Tomatoes are the most fun because they spray their blood everywhere! It's awesome :O
Lorretta comes across as a very enlightened, and considerate person who obviously devotes much time and energy to speak in behalf of, and good to other species.
I also undertake a similar work in the UK, to help alleviate the unnecessary sufferings of animals and birds at the hands of the farming industry, and I wish all involved with the farm sanctuary and Loretta the very best of success in your quest to inform people of the evil atrocity involved in producing Foie Gras.
Beautifully said, Loretta you took the words out of my mouth and what I've been trying to get across for years: "I would fight just as hard for you, as I would for this duck."
I can't believe how cruel this is. It is unbearable to watch the eyes of these beautiful, free creatures of the wild shaking in pain and terror and in sheer agony.
God help the human race. Their barbaric nature is far too much to bare.
Well said, Ms. Swit, very well said. When the abuse of one form of life is considered acceptable things can only escalate from there. Why don't people understand that?
Are you trying to start trouble? What if this was a video of someone shoving pipe down your throat and someone made a stupid comment like "This makes me laugh watching this" while you were suffering? Think before you speak, or type in this case. And try to have a heart, if it's not too much trouble.
omfg kill all animal hurters. ducks are my favorite animal i wanna hack that pipe down the peoples throats and keep them in small cages KILL THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!!
I raise chickens and ducks we eat there eggs and yes we eat them. But my animals are not in cages. They have shelter to escape from bad weather and for safety, but this is totally unexceptable.I rescued 13 hens from a commerical farm that hid in my dog house for almost a week because they didnt know how to act around the other animals or even what to do out doors. They are still leary of my and i have had them almost 2 months.

You people are idiots. While I do not condone wanton cruelty to animals for the sake of some sick perversion or masochistic thrill seeking, this comes dangerously close to advocating animal rights.
This cruelty isn't some isolated incident for the "sake of sick perversion"; it's standard practice in the foie gras industry. Take a look at "The Foie Gras Assembly Line" for a look at how the whole process works.

I will admit I am not familiar with the Foie Gras industry. I have watched the video and it is a bit extreme. However, what needs to be communicated to you people is that these methods are NOT standard practice in conventional animal agriculture production. The farm sanctuary group is an animal rights group and their agenda is clearly to do away with animal agriculture of any form. They use theses examples as shock tactics to attract converts to their cause.
You're saying that as if advocating animal rights is a bad thing, without offering any justification. Animals do have rights. All a right is is a valid claim. Animals have the basic right to respect, freedom, and physical integrity. Morally, humans owe basic respect to all beings capable of suffering. No position that states otherwise can possibly be consistent or non-arbitrary. We draw lines based on species because it benefits us financially, and we have power.

The term "animal rights" is misleading. Animals do NOT have rights in the same sense that people do and to imply so is naive and foolish. I am not in any way promoting the mistreatment of animals for the sole purpose of doing so. I do advocate animal welfare which is an entirely different thing.
So, in order to ascribe rights to humans, and not to humans, you must have some convincing justification. What is the difference between a human and a nonhuman that is relevant to rights? That is, this difference would take away rights from a human. So, if you say the difference is they cannot speak, then a human who cannot speak has no rights. If you cannot provide this difference, then it is just a prejudice based on species, the same as a prejudice based on race.

I suppose if you follow your line of logic, then we should make cheese from milk from humans and you would be a prime candidate for a leather belt or a nice juicy "man steak". It's just nature. The dominant species has dominion over the less dominanant ones. If you would look to the animal world of which you advocate rights to, one animal has less regard for the "rights" of another creature than we do. The fact that we're even having this conversation proves my point as to our dominance.
the images are horrific, but she makes her point beautifully. i absolutely agree that the kind of apathy directed towards animals encourages apathy towards humans. how can someone uphold the torture of one being and condemn another? like the wonderful Ms. Swit says, it is only until we can see that ALL cruelty is wrong, that we will live in a world without it. "i would fight just as hard for you as i would for this duck." she literally brings tears to my eyes.
aww thank you hun :) it's so wonderful to know that the man i love feels the same empathy and passion for animals that i do! you are a gem of humanity. i love you!

Ok so I wish to take action regarding this matter. Where do I start? What do I boycott?
bowes9 3 years ago 4
@bowes9
That's a very good idea and it's easy. Don't eat foie gras and tell your friends not to do so.
You can start a petition or collect signatures to forbid this cruelty to animals. It happens not only in France, Spain or Hungary but in the USA too.

Or, since they have brains, explain to them why what they are doing is emotionally retarded and have them stop doing it?

If what it means to be human doesn't rise above our cruelties I don't see what's better with us than with the things we prey upon.
When the world ends up as nothing more than a game of who-eats-who we will have deserved ourselves.
