  • This song is all about Existentialism. He says, "I'll loose my mind completely, madness will finally defeat me." and she answers, "It's just make believe," a very Existential view of personal reality, which Jens mishears as "maple leaves." When "she talked about the fall" she really means the Existential novel The Fall by Camus, not autumn (when maple leaves fall), nor the band fronted by Mark Smith. This is a beautiful and complex song.

  • ♥♥♥♥♥

  • He almost "out-Stephen Merritts" Stephen Merritt with this song.

  • @hprdgn284 this is one of the greatest comments ever.

  • @scarlettdear Exact same, just an hour or 2 ago, he sent it to me! I am completely in love with this song and his music now!

  • i cannot believe i haven't heard this until now. his lyrics are so silly but real and sweet too.

  • Dont apologize too much, as good a version as this is the violin does go grossly out of key for a second at about 2:45

  • Yeah, it goes a little crazy for a couple seconds there.

  • incredible performance is there anywhere to get this mp3?

  • beautiful sound this is real talent

  • I want to put that violist out of her misery at about 2:45. She almost ruins the whole song.

  • i think that's the wrong use of that phrase...

  • I was referring to the fact that she sounds like a dying animal.

  • She plays a wrong note but it doesn't sound that bad

  • i wouldnt have realized if you wouldnt have said that

  • I'm sorry for offending so many people...It's just that I'm a violinist myself, so I guess my ears are more easily offended.

  • and you're retarded

  • haha a funny note

  • i totally agree

  • whats the song he plays in the intro

  • It's "Do You Wanna Dance?" written by Bobby Freeman.

  • Isn't it Do You Wanna Dance with Mamas and the Papas? (which he also sampled the stroke-intro/refrain from).

Or maybe they have similar lyrics :)

  • The original is Bobby Freeman, it's also covered by the Beach Boys, the Ramones, and others.

This is a great song though, totally different from the album/single versions

  • Beach boys play it

  • Also, the Mamas and the Papas did a version of Do You Wanna Dance which contains the string part that Jens sampled in the recorded version.

  • Yeah it's that one. But it's written by Bobby Freeman

  • @wickedly2 but I believe his cover is influenced by The mamas and papas cover of Do you wanna dance.

  • Beautiful. Recalls Revolver-era Beatles the Mamas and the Papas.

  • this is gorgeous!

  • Nice, slowed down version of this Jens classic. The intro is particularly beautiful.
