I just buried my gramfather in jamaica on sunday and a little old lady sang this song so wonderful and i remembered this video when i heard her singing it.
Soon I shall hear the call from heaven's portal, "Come home my child, this is the last mile you must trod". I'll fall asleep but wake in God's new heaven, sheltered safe within the arms of God.
I feel the touch of hands so kind and gentle. They're leading me in paths that I must trod. I'll have no fear for Jesus walks beside me. For I'm sheltered in the arms of God.
So let the storms rage high, the dark clouds rise. They don't worry me, for I'm sheltered safe within the arms of God. He walks with me and naught of earth can harm me. For I'm sheltered in the arms of God.
This video brought tears to my eyes. I am 21 and I can remember church like this, this to me will always be church!! Call me old fashion, but I long for those days again in our church's, allowing God to move freely. Yes Lawd, let it be!
Wow brings back great memories. Life was sooo simpler back then. Di song jus mke the sprit jump in a me not so perfect heart. Glory to God, hallelujah.
the song is Sheltered in the arms of God by the late Dottie Rambo, unfortunately it's not allowing me to paste all the lyrics in but if you do a quick google search for lyrics, you should find it there. You can also find videos of Dottie singing it on you tube, a little different to this, both versions are beautiful but I do love the pentecostal remix ;o)
Those days are unforgettable. Every first Sunday evening, all of the churches would close down and worship together at Gibson Road. It was like having Convocation once a month. As you can tell even from this short clip, the same atmosphere held true in New York over at the old Winthrop Street Building. Bishop Dunn and Bishop Saunders, Sr. would come through and preach some CLASSIC messages! I really miss those days as well as the cross-atlantic fellowship between UK,USA,JA,CA. Glorious times!!!
lushferdy, you said that your nan used to go to that church. Are you referring to the one (First United Church, Brooklyn) that Bishop Barnes pastors in New York, or the one (Bethel United Church, Gibson Road) that Bishop Dunn pastors in England?
PlentyJokes2007 says we can remember churches being like this. I am from a church like this where people praise God in sprit and in truth. There is still a remnant left.
Hi Yorstif, i more referred to the 'ole skool' approach and way of worship - there are still churches that Praise God in spirit and in truth but dont dress that way anymore, or play the music in that way anymore but it's allgood! The 'Remnant' maybe wider than you think....
Hey the words are "So make a joyful sound, though dark clouds rise, they don't worry me. For i'm sheltered safely in the arms of God, he walks with me, and non on earth can harm me, for i am sheltered in the arms of God. (Bishop dunn is my bishop and would you believe the juniors still sing this song every now and again, and he loves it.) xXx
Yes LAWD. Oh my, this brings be back to my Methodist church Convention at National Area in Jamaica. We use to praise and thanks for that refreshing memory

So let the storms rage high,
The dark clouds rise,
They won't worry me;
For I'm sheltered safe within the arms of God.
