To everyone wondering about "the lag"... If you watch closely, it shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear at ~73 mph, then at ~85 mph the revs drop a little again. It's not shifting; 4th gear, which is overdrive, happens at ~115 mph (and yes, my foot was still floored, it'll still shift into OD). Also, if I "manually" move the gear selector from 2nd to 3rd at a higher or lower rpm under WOT, it would still do the little rpm dip. It's just something all SHO's do. But other cars don't so it is weird, lol
@bigtex144 That's the torque converter locking up. My Chevy truck does it in fact, even in third with the foot to the floor. I had a couple '04-05 Taurus' and I never liked the way they shifted into overdrive because Ford always makes their automatics lock up in 3rd gear.
@WhoSaidTyler A torque converter locking up actually does make a perfect explanation. Although that doesn't bother me; In general, locked torque converter should mean less drivetrain power loss :)
@TheSicksti not all, my envoy doesent, my and brothers tbss doesent either. a car wont go into overdrive as long as its floored. only if there casually driving.
@blaboy2012 meeeh... the best all-highway I ever got was 26.4 mg I think, but averaged more around 23. My 97 Maxima that I have now is faster and regularly gets 30-33 mpg, so I was certainly not impressed wtih the SHO's gas mileage
I love the Taurus SHO. I have a 2002 Taurus SE with a 3.0l Vulcan V6 and I'm hardening the suspension. Upgrading the y tube and bolting on a turbo. :) I'm gonna do a top speed run one of these days.
Great video upgrade your y pipe and you will get back more power the who was originally a 340 horsepower engine Ford did so many things to detune the engine
ya pretty quick, put a stall in it and a 75 shot. go to v8sho.com you'll be able to find out a lot of info. almost to much lol. i have a 97 sho twin turbo lol its sikkkkkkkkk fast. also a 2003 ses duratec wit a gtp blower on it. its way faster on a taurus than a gtp. well take care of it and never sell it. if you want some advice on any mods i would beeeeeeeeeeeef up the trany first then turbo or s/c. you should be safe wit a 75 shot though. o ya drop it too and stiffen the suspension.go bears!
@BigLou874 I drove a 4.0L Mazda B4000, 2wd, 5spd (same exact motor as an Explorer). I know how you feel about it being "fast" cuz when I drove that Mazda, I thought it was "peppy" but that's because I didn't have anything else to compare it to. So trust me when I say, it's actually slow as balls.
I love SHO's, so glad Ford brought it back. But I hate turbos, I hate automatic trannys, and AWD should not be on real sports sedans. So sadly, that's what I think of it
@bigtex144 Oh please say you did not just compare a 4.0 liter mazda truck to the V8 SHO. I understand your point, but that SHO wouldn't even waste its time racing the B4000. I know because I had a Ranger with the 4.0 5spd and it wasn't close to being in the same league as a SHO.
@KUjayhawk90 Well honestly, you must not understand my point ;-) I was basically saying that with any given slow car, it will feel fast when you floor it if it's the only thing you've ever driven (the B4000 in my case), UNTIL, that is, you get to drive a car that actually IS fast, like an SHO. That really put into perspective how stupidendously slow that B4000 is in it's own right, not compared to anything. I'm well aware an SHO can murder a ranger. You're just preachin' to the choir bud ;-)
Ok guys including fuck202 and foamybubbles. what do you think of the 2010 Taurus SHO. it has 365HP ecoboost twin turbo V6. I think its awesome. i should have a V8.
@FUCK202 at 105mph for an explorer. It is fast trust me. It drives faster than a 4dr explorer. I drove close to 105mph. any suv that can do 105 is considered fast.
If you haven't already...Have the cam sprockets welded to the camshafts...Only major flaw with that engine...

@geekydude21 look at the new sho taurus. Or even the new non sho taurus. 0-60 for non taurus is 7 flat and sho is mid 5's

bigtex144 7 months ago
@bigtex144 correct. And less heat. Without torque-locker your converter would blow up because it would become too hot
stonix1992 5 months ago
@stonix1992 No, transmission oil is constantly circulating into/out of the torque converter.

hey bigtex144, what was that lag at 13 seconds?
awada85 9 months ago
@awada85 I have no clue, lol. I've watched other videos and every 3rd gen SHO does it, so whatever it is, it is the norm at least.
bigtex144 9 months ago
@bigtex144 ya i just noticed that, haha thats funny.
awada85 9 months ago
@bigtex144 its switching into over drive at 13 seconds al cars do it when your pushing them like that. my jeep does it at about 85 so yea its normal.
