Wow some of the comments made on here about how this episode is offensive is just repulsive to me...Seriously get the fuck over it already! This episode is REALITY!!! There are masculine gay men who despise or simply do not tolerate effeminate men, is just the simple truth that the creators of this show are saying here!!! some people just dont understand the whole reasoning behind film and television. Film and TV is like looking into the mirror, you relate to the character.
@Skyvalley7 that's ironic because they want tolerance from straight people but yet cannot tolerate their own community it's situation like these that just divides and increase hate within the gay community.
muscles and manbags...kinda offended me. "gay or not your still a man" are you sying effemenite arent men? they're just women with no vaginas? so offensive.
@talaneobernardo We understand how you can be offended, but that's ok that you're offended. Everyone is offended by something. Shouldn't walk on eggshells and be afraid to express themselves for fear of offending someone. Some gay men get offended that they are portrayed constantly as queeny feminine, purse carrying, make-up wearing, heels wearing . you can't please everyone all the time. we are not trying to be PC. We are only representing the voice of what some men out there feel.
@talaneobernardo Whether you like it or not, they deserve a voice too & should have one. Just like the stereotypical, cliche version of gay gets an overwhelming amount of representation in tv & film &always gets their voice heard. I see things that offend me all the time. One of the great things about america is that people can voice their opinions freely and aren't muzzled just because it's not what a certain person wants to hear or see. Even though I disagree with u, I appreciate ur coments.
@InBetweenMen oh my god, thank you... that comment was really polite, despite you disagreeing :) if people learned to communicate like you did the world would be a happier place :) thank you that really made my day :D ps: when are new episodes coming out? i'm really anxious to see what happens between Massimiliano and Dalton next and Kendra and "Bix".... :D
@talaneobernardo And that made my day that you received it so well. To piggyback off of what you said, if more people received the way you did, the world would indeed be a better happier place as we would allow each other to co exist without confrontation. As 4 new episodes, we start filming in Jan, so not 2 long after that. I know it's so hard to wait & we appreciate all of our fans anticipation and eagerness to see more. It's the utmost compliment we could receive. like us on FB 2 get updates.
@InBetweenMen The only thing I take issue with here is the idea that the overwhelming representation of gay characters (gay male characters) on television is only one way or (I'm assuming this is your beef) isn't masculine. It is simply not true and hasn't been since pre Will & Grace days. The overwhelming presentation of gays on Network and Cable TV has been masculine, heteronormative, mainstream men. For better/worse. Shows like Happy Endings, Greek, Bros & Sis, USoT, Even QAF
@InBetweenMen There have been super popular gay male characters on daytime and evening soaps (As The World Turns, One Life To Live, General Hospital Nightshift) who were all typically masculine, not fey, not clubbing, no manbags ;-). That same is true for 90210's & Melrose Place's gays characters. And let's not forget Southland, Mercy & Shameless, Spartacus. If anything, I'd say the presentation of gay male characters in the last TV decade has leaned toward hypermasculinity.
@talaneobernardo It's funny. A lot of folks can't understand that you can be a masculine gay man without shunning those who aren't. It's the secure masculine gay man who is comfortable with himself that understands that he is represented by his own actions thus doesn't feel threatened by the existence of feminine gay men.
Plenty of my straight friends are more tolerant of feminine guys than the main characters in this show and their bigoted views.
@chaossix6 Oh if only that were true. Unfortunately we live in a world where people aren't judged solely by their actions. we live in a world where the whole is judged by the actions of a view, ie minorities, muslims, homosexuals, etc. These aren't bigoted men, these are men who have already been prejudged or lumped n2 the same category as other gay men simply because they are gay, men like these tend to be angry cuz they are often accused of pretending to be str8 just cuz they aren't fem.
@InBetweenMen Oh I understand that people are lumped into stereotypes, but that's not the point. Regardless of whether the main characters want to be perceived as feminine or not, the passerby on the street that they talk crap on has EVERY RIGHT to be who they are just as Datlon does. If Dalton feels slighted for other people calling them "straight-acting," he does no better when he makes genderist comments like he did. His actions are no less bigoted.
@chaossix6 dude. calm down. this isn't based in fantasy its based in reality. that is how some people react in the world & we r depicting. not everything is sunshine and flowers. this isn't a series based in idealism, it's a series based on how things really r & unless u r God & perfect, I'm sure you do things that irritate & annoy people in your life as well. whether it's what u r wearing, reading, talking about, etc. it's just life. life's not designed specifically for us.
Respond to this video... art is just representing someone's views at some point in time somewhere in the world. no one said it's the only view or that it's right or wrong. It just IS.
@InBetweenMen I don't consider it a "fantasy" for a masculine gay man to treat a feminine gay man with respect. That's my reality. Acceptance of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and TRANSGENDERED and everything in between is my reality. Yes, art represents life. This art just happens to represent the fact that some gay men ultimately feel a need to tear other gay men down. Congratulations on the positive message.
@chaossix6 YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE AND CALM DOWN! This is a America. The great thing about is that you can sit down, write your own show, chock full of your short sighted opinions, miraculously find funding for it, make it, (and if you are good enough make it with high quality production values), and then distribute it. and then everything will be all even, balanced, and fair in the media landscape. In short, all will be right in the world because. STOP taking everything so personally!
@InBetweenMen Mature gay men (whether masculine or feminine) understand that gender identity works differently for different people and don't need to slam the other side to feel more comfortable with themselves. The irony here is that Dalton feels slighted when his boyfriend brushes him aside in shame. He did the same exact thing to a stranger to start the episode. ("Ugh, that guy is so fem! How yucky!!") Yet we're supposed to feel sorry for him at the end? He got what he deserved.
@trannytrent no one is tearing anyone down. everyone has different opinions in the community and some characters will reflect. it's not a real world to only have "nice" things to say. It can't be denied that there are dichotomies in our community and they can't be swept under the rug, ignored or denied. Art puts many things up for discussion, exactly like it inspired you to comment. Hopefully there are more things you enjoy than don't enjoy about the show. Thanks
@InBetweenMen presenting a certain perspective is fine, but when there's only one (in this case the perspective is guys who are effeminate or have bags/purses are not 'real' men) and there's not even a hint of a competing opinion, then that's (a) harmful and (b) not really being honest about, as you call it, the 'dichotomies in our community'.
@trannytrent there doesn't always have to be a competing point of view to challenge it. sometimes there is somtimes there isn't. these guys are friends for a reason. friends often share the same view points. somtimes they don't. there are other instances in the series where the offer different view points to each other. there are times when they all agree. it's real life. it's how friendships are and it represents a view that a lot of gay men have about that issue.
@trannytrent The wonderful thing about America is that you can go and develop and write and get funding and produce and film your own show saying whatever YOU want to say. and no one would have the right to argue otherwise. :-)
@InBetweenMen watching this by itself didn't 'inspire' me to comment, and that's really arrogant to claim. i thoroughly enjoy queer-themed web series and i want to support queer artists/actors/etc by watching and sharing, but not at the expense of denigrating some parts of the community in the guise of being 'real'.
It's the characters opinion, not the writers. Be angry at the characters, it's valid. if you immediately get mad at the writers the writers aren't doing their job right.
@vichingo21 Furthermore, it's certainly fine to express your opinion about the show, but please don't use my page to perpetrate ignorance, such as the comment you made about sane Italian parents Your opinions about his attractiveness and such are fine, you are entitled to what YOU think is attractive. If YOU can develop a show, write it, get funding, enough to secure great locations and film in this high quality, distribute, THEN you are in a position to talk about what can be done better. TY
@vichingo21 Well you are not really in a position to say what people name their children. We've all met people with names that we are surprised their parents gave them, yet still, its their name. Personally i like the name innocenzo and the Innocenzo's I know, young and older have very sane parents. I truly despise when people try to speak for their entire race/culture, nationality. If you don't know anyone who would use that name then maybe your exposure is limited
