u should change the translation. in surah fatiha it says: show us the straight path. this is wrong. show and guide are 2 diferent meanings.

the kufar can see the right path but it doesnt mean they are guided. so we ask allah to guide us not just show us.

@muhammed421 JazakAllahu khair. The latter of what you have mentioned is the very reason why some translators have chosen the word 'show' as opposed to guide. Their reasoning is that the fact they can 'see' the path and yet refuse to follow it is what makes them kuffar. The word kafara mean also to reject and hence they reject the path that they plainly see in front of them. The arabic 'huda' supports both the meaning of show and guide. WaAllahu A'lam.

@muhammed421 In order to follow a path it must first be shown to us. The meaning of show here in this context is similar to guide. It is understood as 'Show us the clear path so that we can follow it'. This is guidance. A guide is one who shows you the right path or course of action. I really do not see any major differences in meaning here. Both Pickthall and Yusuf Ali have chosen 'show' in their transalations.

no u can not compare it because this dua in surah fatiha is only for the muslims becuz they are the one who ask it in the prayer. so a muslim already saw the right path so why would u ask allah to show it again? it doenst make any sense + its inperfection. btw yusuf ali has major mistakes in his translation as the scholars have mention. and this is one of it.

@muhammed421 Akhil kareem. No doubt there are some nuances in the meanings of 'show' and 'guide'. At best you should say 'guide' is better or 'show' is not the most appropriate translation. To say this is imperfection is to ignore the pluraity of meanings in arabic words. If a person is Muslim, then he has already been guided to Islam, and therefore your logic is unsound. Again, I do not see any major difference between the words, 'Show us the right path' and 'Guide us to the right path'.

no not onsound becuz the scholars have said that by asking guidence u ask allah to keep u opon the haq and not to misguide u after u have been guided.u can not say this with show. becuz a person who sees it he can be kafir or muslim. but a person of guidence he can only be muslim. so thats why u can never use show in this surah. its inperfect becuz if u ask for guidence then this means also esteblishing the haq in the heart but if u ask to show it then this is only with the eyes.
