this brings me back to Central Park. This lineup played at the Schaefer sponsored summer concerts in Wollman Rink. I especially remember the summertime crowd snapping their fingers at the bands urging. Great venue, great songs, Todd Sharp had as many spotlights as Hall or Oates that tour. The boys attitude towards sharing the spotlight changed as they became more famous.
I can't wait to see these guys again! Haven't seen em in awhile but I've been seeing them since 77. They're gonna blow my kid AWAY. He's a musician himself and he's seen them a few times but he's 14 now and not since he was like 5 I know he's just gonna be blown AWAY I can't WAIT tee hee.
Thank you Musikladen for this FANTASTIC VIDEO of Hall & Oates Live "Abandoned Luncheonette"! I was rockin and all the way back when I was 18 -- loving it just as much now as then...maybe more so even, being able to see it visually and audibly. Perfect.
I love these guys so much! Unbelievable how good they are live. Even better than the album! day to day......month to month...year to year. I think their old stuff is underappreciated compared to their 80's albums. Real blue eyed soul. I love you H2O!
Astonishing... There are no words... Nice to know that in the internet age, when my knees don't work, when all there is is me and Google TV...I can hear performances like these (over and over and over) ...
What a terrific song! Another example that H & O can do anything... not just the sum of all their old pop songs (although they're great, too). And I totally believe this song could be a metaphor for a bad marriage. Thank you for letting me discover more of the seemingless endless supply of The Great Hall and Oates. (Daryl's hair as always is awesome). And LADH is the best show on the web. Thanks.
What a wonderful song!! It just proves H & O are not just a sum of all their older pop songs.... they can do anything well. Very unique for this time period (horns and all). I listen to this all the time.... love it!!
What's the meaning of this song anyway? My brother is a big Hall & Oates fan and he claims it's talking about a marriage. I think that sorta fits but I was wondering if anyone knows for sure. Any ideas?
@TheSoldierScholar You know, that's an interesting interpretation. I've always wondered what the lyrics of this song meant. A marriage, very plausible.
Thanks again for the music!!! You guys are STILL the best!!! Love yas!!! Great tune too!!! Thanks for keeping the heart beating just a little stronger.....Take care Eddie!!
This same band is the same one on live previously unreleased track included on the new 4 CD box set that was just released a few months ago. (Abandoned Luncheonette - Disc 1 - Track 19)
RIP T-Bone ...you're a huge reason why I love Hall and Oates since my childhood....you were always just as important and I know Hall and Oates would agree
They sat in an Abandoned Luncheonette His voice was rusty from years as a sergeant on "this man's army" they were old and crusty He was the dishwasher, busy in the back, He was young and randy Day to day, to day... today then they were old, their lives wasted away Month to month, year to year they all run together peeling of paint on the luncheonette wall together in the empty diner and the sign on the door read "this way out", that's all it read that's all it said
Thank you very much!! Timing, writing and musicianship, alot of talent in this one video...there's really nothing out there today thats in this class or that era. I caught these guys in The Bitter End in NYC before they were really popular and believe me that was a treat.
I was born and raised in Philly and on Hall and Oats. I have had the the thrill of seeing them at least 10 times in concert. They are one of the best groups to every perform and thier music is absolutly fantastic.
This song is included on the new 4 CD Box Set now coming out on October 13th, 2009. It's track 19 on disc 1. It's the same band lineup as in this video taken from a live concert at the New Victoria Theater in London on October 3rd, 1975.
I think the box set CD is coming out on Oct 6th 2009.
If you notice, these MusikLaden clips feature basically the same band. The later version added Charlie on sax. The new CD had 5 tracks, that were previously unreleased, of the earlier version of the band that are in these clips, performing in London live in 1975. They are tracks 16, 17, 18, 19 & 20 of Disc 1.
Increible tema. Incluso la letra es super buena. Tengo ese DVD desde el 2005 ,tengo 29 años pero me gusta mas que cualquier musica moderna. - Thats an amazing song. Even the lyrics. I ve got the DVD since 2005 ,can you imagine that? Im 29 years old ,but i prefer that good music than the no talent and filth youth music...Slds from Lima.

Timing, what timing. I just don't think people are capable of understanding real music any more or they would be viewing this a lot more.
