@davidhealey1 Enjoyment from a live musical performance should not come from visual cues, and the audio on this video is perfect. Phenomenal performance, thanks a lot for the post. I swear I've probably given this video about 500 of its views.
@TKDCats312 On second listening, I admit I was wrong; I am enjoying this version. I think I must've written that comment when I still had my old, shitty headphones.
I don't know whether that's slang or not but I'm sure he's referencing the street here in L.A. My guess is that he nicknamed a girl (the one he's singing about in the song), "La Cienega" ...maybe that's where they met or where she lived, or he was driving down it after she said, "I'll see you around" (the break up)... it does happen to be the road to take from West Hollywood to LAX...I could see him writing this in the back of some town car on the way out of town, broken hearted.
@niecynoo32 Also, this album, "Gold", has a theme about cities & streets. The 1st song, "New York, New York", the last song, "Goodnight, Hollywood Blvd." (which Jaimie Cullum does an awesome cover of BTW). He goes East to West coast On "Gold", a lot of the songs talk about various places & streets he's been to in the U.S.
Enough with Mandy. Your muse must be calling by now. Get thyself back on the road David Ryan! We're dying out here and you are the best (and I am obsessed). Leave the Easy Plateau (see Cold Roses folks if you don't know that wonderful song) and come out and PLAY it!
You're not alone :) This song speaks to me and it's just a simple song about him leaving California (or something of that nature). Ryan falls in love with the cities and puts them in his songs. That is genuine.
He's just so solid on this performance. Everything just clicks in the right beat. And the right tune. And there are just these little things he does with the guitar and his voice, and with the band...ah, just perfect version.
Haha! Told you all! Best version EVER. May it be on here forever and ever for all to enjoy. I don't even know where I found this video. Must have been those days of Limewire but I knew that people would enjoy it. Thank you for all the comments.
Yeah really. Of the versions I have heard of this song, this one is by far the best. It's just electric. He's just got it all going on, he works that guitar so well, and the way the drums come in near the end and they start jammin,' so cool!
How good can one guy get... This is one of the best song I've ever heard. And this is a great version. Next time I see him, I'll do whatever it takes to get a great seat.
the mini-bar on the drum raiser is cool. very good version, but Grand Prairie 08 + the one with Elton John from the CrossRoadsShow is also bestestest.
Actaully this is just epic. maybe the best RA video ever and by now and I think I've seen all of them. jammin out at the end. but you gotta love the cig...
im 18 in kentucky and feel the same as the two teens before me...i play music but nothing resembling ryan adams in the band but when its just me and a guitar i alwz find myself coming back to his music...just saw him in nashville and it literaly left me at a loss for words....probably my fav singer-songwriter in modren music
i wish more people my age would open their eyes and ears to some of ryans stuff. Im 17 living in NZ and everyone only cares for rap or heavy metal. theyre missing on the heart and soul of songwriting and music. nobody writes music like this man. nobody comes close. unspoken genius
One of the first gigsI ever went to was Ryan at Brixton in London, and it was utterly brilliant. This actually looks really like it, although it was like 8 years ago!
I'm glad everyone is enjoying this video! I didn't think it would get so many hits. When I first saw the video and saw him smoke during the bridge part, I thought to myself "Oh yeah...this is going to be a classic Ryan Adams video." ;)
epic. maybe the best RA video on here. and I think I've seen all of them. jammin out at the end. gotta love the cig. priceless moments captured in time.
this song is beautiful. i like how its slower in the beginning like he singing the story and then its builds. hes the most important singer songwriter of this generation
So true. I liostened to garbage compared to this befor my son gave me cold roses two or three christmases ago. Everyone of this genre pales in comparison.
Amazing. He's such a personality on stage. Stories, humour, crowd interaction, and a heavy dose of modest self deprecation. If you ever get the chance to see Ryan Adams live in a small venue, do not let it pass you by.
A modern artist that actually sings with meaning and soul, reminiscent of songwriters of the past. That's where the respect for him comes from; his way of making music that isn't commercialized or fake. This fellow cannot be replaced.
cool might be the wrong word... a word i don't know which implies beautiful, unbelievable, sad, amazing, unique and professional might be more correct. maybe the word is "RyanAdams" :)
oh yeah - ryan adams! :) I love this guy - he is the best songwriter I ever listened to.... He makes me cry with a song and one or two times later he makes me laughing!
Respect to you Ryan! Your lyriks are a bullet - this bullet hit my heart!
i agree with everyone ryan adams is by far the best songwriter alive, everyone one of his songs connects with me when i hear them and his music especially is the type that brings up memories its just so great to hear his music because listening to it brings me back to so many great things.
i agree with everyone ryan adams is by far the best songwriter alive, everyone one of his songs connects with me when i hear them and his music especially is the type that brings up memories its just so great to hear his music because listening to it brings me back to so many great things.
not many people can make you cry for more than one reason at a time. this song in particular can do it. he portrays so vividly and in a real lackdaisical way. at the same time, the way its presented is so beautiful. not a lot of songwriters can do that, ryan is very special.
if you're at this show, you're completely lost in the song--it means something deeply different to every single person. some cry, some smile dreamily--everyone's emotional. it's beautiful.
this is just amazing. I can't think, I almost can't breathe and my mind has exploded with all these emotions I didn't even know I had in me. thank you so much.
ok ive been drinking (im irish so feck it) but im inconsolable, this performance is miraculous, scarletleaf's comment is on the ball it makes breathing hard
that is the freaking coolest, cant be arsed, but still look cool as feck, guitar playing ever performed... the true manic depressive, love song writing, rock god
scarlet leaf i agree this song is amazing, I mean I'm a tallica fan and of other bands of similar genres however ryan adams is one of my favourite composers and the 'gold' album is my favourite by far
Fantastic song. I first came across it on the "Suicide Handbook" demos. These demos are so much better than a lot of other people's legitimate CDs. Love Ryan Adams.
Unbe-freakin'-lievable... That song's one of the most cinematic ones he's written but this takes it to another level altogether - it just soars at the end. What an amazing talent in that young man!
Look, Bob Dylan wasn't remembered for his voice or particularly his guitar/piano playing. He was remembered for his amazing lyrics and for the soul that he poured into every single song. Ryan Adams is a lot like that. He is a singer-songwriter more than a rocker.
haha music isent like football, just because you support one singer doesent mean you hafto hate the other.. live and let live..its all good, there is no point in giving out, if you dont like it thats fine, leave the comment box for people who are fans and want to talk about music, NOT hate it.
