  • Perfect

  • it's almost embarrassing how many times i've watched this.

  • @durkadurkas - Me too, lol.

  • and that is how one smokes a cigarette while playing guitar and singing a song. bravo

  • @jmzcrt True, so damn true.

  • this is the best version I've ever heard. Excellent!

  • does he have a cigarette in his hand?

  • Yup. Best I've heard. Damn. When is he coming to Cali?

  • one word. badass.

  • btw thats fucking hard to do, smoking a cig while singing and playing guitar...harder than it looks

  • Too poor quality to enjoy it

  • @davidhealey1 Enjoyment from a live musical performance should not come from visual cues, and the audio on this video is perfect. Phenomenal performance, thanks a lot for the post. I swear I've probably given this video about 500 of its views.

  • @TKDCats312 On second listening, I admit I was wrong; I am enjoying this version. I think I must've written that comment when I still had my old, shitty headphones.

  • what an entrance! Truly magical!!!

  • You know La Cienega is slang for whore (women of a hundred men)....sooooo not about a city. Still, I love this song. :)

  • @niecynoo32

I don't know whether that's slang or not but I'm sure he's referencing the street here in L.A. My guess is that he nicknamed a girl (the one he's singing about in the song), "La Cienega" ...maybe that's where they met or where she lived, or he was driving down it after she said, "I'll see you around" (the break up)... it does happen to be the road to take from West Hollywood to LAX...I could see him writing this in the back of some town car on the way out of town, broken hearted.

  • @niecynoo32 Also, this album, "Gold", has a theme about cities & streets. The 1st song, "New York, New York", the last song, "Goodnight, Hollywood Blvd." (which Jaimie Cullum does an awesome cover of BTW). He goes East to West coast On "Gold", a lot of the songs talk about various places & streets he's been to in the U.S.

  • This song makes me ache. So bittersweet.

  • Enough with Mandy. Your muse must be calling by now. Get thyself back on the road David Ryan! We're dying out here and you are the best (and I am obsessed). Leave the Easy Plateau (see Cold Roses folks if you don't know that wonderful song) and come out and PLAY it!

  • this is just too cool.

  • too sexy for words. i have to laugh at how many things he can do at once. after this video i'd like to bum one of his cigarettes.

  • ive got all his stuff he,s my fav artist and u can see y in this vid

  • ive got all his stuff an u can see y. he,s shit hot!

  • Ryan adams is probably the best songwriter i've ever heard. I listened to easy tiger 5 times in a row and smiled the whole time.

  • I love this version, but i think the ACL version is even better. Either way I love the song!!!!

  • ryan i love you more than turk <3

  • Love this song!

  • when was this?

  • Brilliant, easily the best Rydog clip on the Tube, love the strat!!

  • people, the guy is talented, but hes a tosser

  • This is a good video, thanks for the up

  • me too its immense!

  • thank you so much for finding this! i have watched this over and over again! one of his greatest live moments

  • best version of this song ever

  • this is addictive.. oh my..

  • i just pooped a little bit. so damn good man. SMOKING!!! RULESSSS!!!

  • awesome version

  • He's so wasted, but still performs flawlessly. Amazing artist.

  • perfect

  • Wow

  • @FlowerChild/nwtapp . same here, I'd like to know just how many times I've watched this one. I love this particular band constellation

  • many of RAdams lives have good sound quality :)

  • First time I've heard this & it's awesome

  • Ahhh... me too. FlowerChild. At least a few times a week. Love that solo at the end. Plus, he always makes me want a smoke.

  • I keep coming back to this video : )

  • You're not alone :) This song speaks to me and it's just a simple song about him leaving California (or something of that nature). Ryan falls in love with the cities and puts them in his songs. That is genuine.

  • @Phlikone

cities are just like girls... or is it the other way around.

  • @Phlikone The cities are women. Hence New York et al.

  • @flowerchild19871 understandably....

  • @flowerchild19871 me too

  • He's just so solid on this performance. Everything just clicks in the right beat. And the right tune. And there are just these little things he does with the guitar and his voice, and with the band...ah, just perfect version.

  • one of my favs!!thanx for posting best song writer of our generation!!

  • Haha! Told you all! Best version EVER. May it be on here forever and ever for all to enjoy. I don't even know where I found this video. Must have been those days of Limewire but I knew that people would enjoy it. Thank you for all the comments.

  • Thanks so much man. One of my favorite songs of all time.

  • @Phlikone i keep coming back too. thanks for posting. do we have any idea when this was recorded and where it was shot?

  • This was my first ever favorite RA song and I am so happy I found this video today!!!!

  • I miss Ryan so much

  • I like it very, very much....wow.wow.wow...:-)

  • You're right - this is a perfect rendition of a beautiful song..... thx for sharing.....and thx to Phlikone for posting!

  • beautiful song

  • he`s voice and this song is wonderful:-)

  • Wow... this version is awesome

  • Genius!

  • Didn't think i could love his music any more - thanks for posting!

  • Yeah really. Of the versions I have heard of this song, this one is by far the best. It's just electric. He's just got it all going on, he works that guitar so well, and the way the drums come in near the end and they start jammin,' so cool!

  • amazing...

  • this is my favorite amateur concert footage on youtube. everything about this performance is cool.

  • How good can one guy get... This is one of the best song I've ever heard. And this is a great version. Next time I see him, I'll do whatever it takes to get a great seat.

  • That song and version kicks ass.

  • The best version of this amazing song!

  • Everytime I see him live I like to yell out SUMMER OF 69 and it piss him off! LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

  • lame.

  • Shit Kicking Crackers

  • I could watch that man smoke all night long.

  • den får mej bara att gråta...

  • the mini-bar on the drum raiser is cool. very good version, but Grand Prairie 08 + the one with Elton John from the CrossRoadsShow is also bestestest.

  • is this from the final Atlanta, GA show?

  • Nah, it's from Brixton Academy, London, 2002.

  • Actaully this is just epic. maybe the best RA video ever and by now and I think I've seen all of them. jammin out at the end. but you gotta love the cig...

  • he is so bad ass!!! this is incredible version.. love this performance.. love this song.. love this man.

  • 2:22 - 2:28 might be the coolest thing I´ve ever seen.

  • im 18 in kentucky and feel the same as the two teens before me...i play music but nothing resembling ryan adams in the band but when its just me and a guitar i alwz find myself coming back to his music...just saw him in nashville and it literaly left me at a loss for words....probably my fav singer-songwriter in modren music

  • Rock on kid. Ky musicians are the best

  • i wish more people my age would open their eyes and ears to some of ryans stuff. Im 17 living in NZ and everyone only cares for rap or heavy metal. theyre missing on the heart and soul of songwriting and music. nobody writes music like this man. nobody comes close. unspoken genius

  • a teenager with taste, thank god,

have a look at bon iver, different but also genius.

  • same here man...im 17 from kentucky and its the exact same situation here... but this man is one of the good songwriters

  • Agreed. I'm 18 and I feel the same way. It's pathetic how obsessed most people are with the mainstream media.

  • @ibanez6789345

It's nice to know there is hope for your generation of music lovers. you have taste and that is no small thing.

  • @ibanez6789345 i'm italian, i'm 17 and i have your same opinions... i have all his cds... i adore him XD

  • perfect!

  • One of the first gigsI ever went to was Ryan at Brixton in London, and it was utterly brilliant. This actually looks really like it, although it was like 8 years ago!

Gold is one of the best albums ever.

    LOVE THIS MAN.

  • greatest version ever

    gotta love that cigarrette! :D

  • the most talented singer-songwriter of this generation

  • Hands down!

  • Never mind his appearance, he is so f@&!%*! TALENTED!

  • He's so f@&!%*! CUTE.

  • this is a briiliant performance, amazing song

  • one of the best vids on this site..

  • joe:you ever heard this song?

    ashley:nuh ugh

    joe:really?!?!

    ashley:mmhm :)

(im just reanacting what happens in your car every time we kick it )

  • LOVELY,.

  • Im not man enough to wear those bell bottums, ill admit that,I get enough shit for skinny jeans.

  • Ha ha same here!!!

  • I'm glad everyone is enjoying this video! I didn't think it would get so many hits. When I first saw the video and saw him smoke during the bridge part, I thought to myself "Oh yeah...this is going to be a classic Ryan Adams video." ;)

  • @Phlikone Dude Don't you have it on better quality? This is pure gold!!!

  • I saw him in Nashville at the War Memorial last year. It was one of the best concerts I have ever been too. He is so good.

  • Marry me, Ryan!? I'm not doing anything this afternoon if ya wanna go to Vegas- does that work for you?

  • he is so bad ass!!! so freakin' awesome

  • why is he so darn good???

  • mmmm, he is musical heaven!

  • ok damit. That's it. 10 times in a row. it's the best video on this whole fukking site! going to bed now

  • epic. maybe the best RA video on here. and I think I've seen all of them. jammin out at the end. gotta love the cig. priceless moments captured in time.

  • this song is beautiful. i like how its slower in the beginning like he singing the story and then its builds. hes the most important singer songwriter of this generation

  • So true. I liostened to garbage compared to this befor my son gave me cold roses two or three christmases ago. Everyone of this genre pales in comparison.

  • i have seen him on charlie rose, clever young man too.and this performance got soul.

  • this has to be the best song ever written

  • Amazing. He's such a personality on stage. Stories, humour, crowd interaction, and a heavy dose of modest self deprecation. If you ever get the chance to see Ryan Adams live in a small venue, do not let it pass you by.

  • Bravo!

  • I agree draziwthe! Lyrics are of paramount importance to me and I googled the lyrics of this song. Pure poetry...

  • A modern artist that actually sings with meaning and soul, reminiscent of songwriters of the past. That's where the respect for him comes from; his way of making music that isn't commercialized or fake. This fellow cannot be replaced.

  • cool might be the wrong word... a word i don't know which implies beautiful, unbelievable, sad, amazing, unique and professional might be more correct. maybe the word is "RyanAdams" :)

  • the most talented singer-songwriter of this generation.. possibly becoming one of the best ever.

  • the cig is just too cool. ryan adams defines cool. amazing songwriter.

  • BRYAN

  • oh the night, here it comes again

  • This is like one of my favorite songs of all time. And this version is AMAZING.

  • oh yeah - ryan adams! :) I love this guy - he is the best songwriter I ever listened to.... He makes me cry with a song and one or two times later he makes me laughing!

Respect to you Ryan! Your lyriks are a bullet - this bullet hit my heart!

  • i agree with everyone ryan adams is by far the best songwriter alive, everyone one of his songs connects with me when i hear them and his music especially is the type that brings up memories its just so great to hear his music because listening to it brings me back to so many great things.

  • this man is by far the greatest song writer of his time and proberly will be the best ever.

  • Hes my Favorite singer song writer.

  • not many people can make you cry for more than one reason at a time. this song in particular can do it. he portrays so vividly and in a real lackdaisical way. at the same time, the way its presented is so beautiful. not a lot of songwriters can do that, ryan is very special.

  • if you're at this show, you're completely lost in the song--it means something deeply different to every single person. some cry, some smile dreamily--everyone's emotional. it's beautiful.

  • this is just amazing. I can't think, I almost can't breathe and my mind has exploded with all these emotions I didn't even know I had in me. thank you so much.

  • wow

  • ok ive been drinking (im irish so feck it) but im inconsolable, this performance is miraculous, scarletleaf's comment is on the ball it makes breathing hard

  • that is the freaking coolest, cant be arsed, but still look cool as feck, guitar playing ever performed... the true manic depressive, love song writing, rock god

  • damn right!!!

  • scarlet leaf i agree this song is amazing, I mean I'm a tallica fan and of other bands of similar genres however ryan adams is one of my favourite composers and the 'gold' album is my favourite by far

  • I know how :o)

  • Where was this?

  • Fantastic song. I first came across it on the "Suicide Handbook" demos. These demos are so much better than a lot of other people's legitimate CDs. Love Ryan Adams.

  • great find

  • i've watched this like 900 times, i love it so much.

  • Me too! I think it's the best live version out there. I put it in Mp3 format so I can listen to it in my car. Simply amazing.

  • Awesome. Simply awesome

  • Unbe-freakin'-lievable... That song's one of the most cinematic ones he's written but this takes it to another level altogether - it just soars at the end. What an amazing talent in that young man!

  • ryan adams is my favorite. this one of my favorite songs of his. ty to whoever posted it.

  • Good, deep music. And he's not insulting his audience or his band, which is a nice bonus.

  • SUCH a good clip, thanks so much for posting! love it love it love it, the ciggie, the solo, bliss!

  • fucking great clip.

  • Look, Bob Dylan wasn't remembered for his voice or particularly his guitar/piano playing. He was remembered for his amazing lyrics and for the soul that he poured into every single song. Ryan Adams is a lot like that. He is a singer-songwriter more than a rocker.

  • haha music isent like football, just because you support one singer doesent mean you hafto hate the other.. live and let live..its all good, there is no point in giving out, if you dont like it thats fine, leave the comment box for people who are fans and want to talk about music, NOT hate it.
