  • the riff that starts at 1:30, is it lonely train from blackstone cherry

  • Dude, this is an awesome demo!!! Simple, no bullshit talking throughout, get a real feel to what the pedal sounds like! Great Job!

  • If You Truely Want ZACK's Sound Get Set Your Amp On CRUNCH , Use This Pedal aswell as the Black Label Chorus from MXR and the Wha Also and WOW !!!

Oooh and having EMG Pickups may help a little too LOL an Knowing how to Play like ZACK Realy makes the Biggest Diffrence ha ha ha ...GREAT PEDAL.

  • I just got this pedel and on a clean Chanel it's sounds nice but wen I use it to boost my overdrive on my amp it Dosnt make a difference apart from a loud buzzin sound am using a Marshall mg15dfx and emg 81x on my les Paul custom

  • @MrJoshbolton

I think it would work better with a tube amp than with a solid state one.

  • @MrJoshbolton u use a custom les paul, but a solid state marshal??? Any pedal and guitar will sound awfull through that... Get a decent valve amp.. so you les paul justice... that is if it's a real one of course... ;o)

  • these pedals are only good with decent tube amps.

  • was the ac adapter includet?

  • @Twizzelification, mine wasnt

  • @Twizzelification Mine wasnt either

  • is this pedal useable as a boost while doing solo's?

  • @SeppermanProductions Pretty sure you can do the standard TS9 all volume no gain dealie, its just that most of the reviewers don't ever try it. Besides, the ZW-44 is an SD-1 with a few components changed on the circuit for less upper mids/highs, probably more gain, and to make the bypass better.

  • @austinfailz Your ass

  • @Shyuum Lulz, u durnk bro?

  • This pedal is ZE SHET!!! NICE TONE !! What guitar / pickups do you use ? :D

  • Best ZW-44 DEMO!!! With and Without amp Overdrive, just what lot of people is searching for! including me

  • This pedal VS. Black Label Chorus!? Which should i take?

And which of the pedals would work the best with the ZW-45 Wah Wah pedal do you guys think/know?

  • @joachimekstrom well a chorus pedal and an overdrive aren´t comparable, so you should think about what you need most. Furthermore I think that both pedals work good with the ZW-Wah, but you should try to find an individual sound if you aren´t in a Black Label Society/ Ozzy Coverband ^^

  • @joachimekstrom just get all 3!!

  • @JoshuaDG2111 well its kinda expensive if i go for all of them lol

  • Guitargod you've made the same mistake I did. You bought that pedal! It's shit!

  • how do you get this sound. i got a d100 half stack amp with a dean that has sh-13 pick ups and when i use this pedal it sound like crap. i just got this pedal today and ben messing with for a while now.

  • awesome tune!

  • ....sorry for this stupid question... is this the pedal Zakk uses to play Crazy Train Solo? thanks....

  • which is better in your opinion? TS9 or zakk's overdrive???

  • Comment removed

  • Might sound stupid, but has anyone tried to use this pedal for any Hendrix tune. My problem is I have two awesome OD pedals on my board (wampler Ecstasy and fulltone OCD) but I wanna get a pedal that will make my tone reach high gains and fuzz. The two pedals I have, have a rather sweet od. Any suggestions?

  • INCREASE THHE FUCKING TONE!!! dude!

  • holy shit this vid is amazing.

  • there is something i dont understand. zakk wylde is even using overdrive? all of his songs sounds much more heavier then ovderdrive.

  • @ZonaMispar1 OD pushes the tubes in his amp, so he already uses a higher gain setting on the amp im assuming. The OD then pushes it further :)

  • @GallGael2

    cool, thanks :P

  • @ZonaMispar1 emgs dude

  • 1:17 no more tears FTW

  • gratuituous pinch harmonics!!!!!

  • I've got an Epiphone Les Paul ZW Bullseye Custom and a Peavey VK112.

Which overdrive pedal do you I should buy!? Boss SD-1, Digitech Bad Monkey or this MXR ZW-44?

    Thanks

  • @duartesaavedra ibanez tube screamer

  • @duartesaavedra ZW-44. In my opinion, digital sounds crappy and thin. The ZW-44 is a pretty fucking kick ass pedal, but the M-116 Fullbore Metal is the best for uber high gain. It has super boosted everything, so you might have to get it toned down in the low end like mine because if you palm mute you might get this weird low octave feed back that fucks you up.

  • i love it thats such a sexy sound man its like sex for your ears its sounds great

  • hey man,

what kind of amp are you using with this pedal?

  • @JadeBlack it says it up top where people put the thumbs up

  • Kick Ass Overdrive :O

  • best OD pedal ive ever heard without the distortion channel on, metal on its own..... which is not common for overdrive pedal

  • this is probably a stupid question. is it good to have an overedrive even if u have a high gain amp like a blackstar ht-5?

  • @TheMetalGuy01 Yes, I have the HT-5 and am using a Bad Monkey to boost the gain. Really makes a big difference when you want to play metal.

  • @madmoe70 what overdrives do you recommend for a good boost? right now i cant decide from zakk overdrive, boss sd-1, TS808 or bad monkey.

  • @TheMetalGuy01 I have the Bad Monkey , Ibanez TS7 and Boss sd-1 and to my ears the Bad Monkey sounds the best. I also changed the preamp tube to a Tung Sol 12AX7 and that made this amp sound a lot better. I've heard the Zakk overdrive and it sounds great, but I haven't played it through the HT-5, so I can't really say how good it will sound.

  • @madmoe70 cheers mate

  • nice playin, wish i had one of those

  • any body knows a pedal that sound like this at 1:06 without turn on the distortion of the amp

  • Clear review, thanks!

The best tone-lesson is at 1:07 when you turn on the distortion on the amp... I wonder, how much of it did you apply (without the pedal)?

I don't mean the knob... I mean by ear

The combination of both seems perfect... pure ZW harmonics

  • the Tone knob seems more a scoop- than a typical treble-cut control

  • I'd say the most important factor in the quality of this recording is the amp. If you did a little research, you'd come to realize that this pedal is meant mainly for Marshall amplifyers. Go ahead, try using it with a Marshall, THEN judge the sound quality.

  • How do i get rid of the feedback?

  • noise gate

  • @TaranMacleod uneed to get a supresser pedal

  • I've played F-50 and it sounds not cool at all compared with some higher-grade MESA amps I've heared, which is obvious 'cuz it's their cheapest model (except for F-30, but that one's out of production now).

So I wonder what guitar was plugged in there?

'Cuz the sound on the vid is pretty amazing

  • Comment removed

  • NOW I HAVE TO GET THIS!!

So I can push my Vox Valvetronix to it's limits!

  • i think the reason this vid sounds so good is cuz hes got a mesa amp. badass amp is the solution to any distortion problem

  • @ZiggyStdu Lol, yeah

  • dont get dis pedal it sux i bought it and played it 4 an hour and realized it was a mistake it has horrible distortion and it doesnt sound like zakk wylde. he doesnt even use it he uses a boss ds-1 distortion pedal. they just paid him to put his name on it so dey cld make a quike buck off of a cheap poor quality pedal. trust me dont waist $100 on dis its not worth it.

  • @hicksdillon its an overdrive not a distortion pedal

    'der, doz uze undAstandz'?

  • @CHARrrrrrrrr yea but its a sucky doverdrive pedal. and there da same thing

  • @hicksdillon do u get alot of feedbacks when u have it on overdrive channel without the noise suppressor?

  • @ansdpdls yes i had awful feedback. i dont own a noise suppressor pedal but it will help with da feedback. but i still wudnt recommend dis pedal. i wld recommend a distortion pedal. like da digi-tech hardwire metal distorion. you can go from zakks sound to even a deeper grittier heavier sound. and its da same price

  • @hicksdillon thank you helped me alot

  • whats the diffrence in a overdrive channel and distortion?

  • what amp and guitar are you using?

  • its de sound i search all my life ,my question is: amp?; guitar?,please answer mi question, congratulations

  • pregunta,con que guitarra-mics-amp lo estas probando?,gracias

  • I fuckin' want this to boost my Blues junior! I have the dime pedal and use that but I want this to boost both! Just gotta find a way to fork out a 100 bucks.

  • sounds better with the tone up

  • i fuckin' love this sound

  • the tone on this thing is out of the top, amazing!!!

  • when zakk plays this he puts all the knobs at full.. now that i got this pedal, its hard to play with out it haha. i love this pedal

  • is it really that great?

  • to me yea.. I mean when im playing distorted i just hit the pedal for super overdrive for a solo or somthing and it feels so much better. So when i play without one it just feels weird.

  • 1:20 UBER PINCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • would this be good for a marshall MG digital amp?

  • I wouldn't recommend it. you end up just getting a load of extra noise when you aren't playing and it dosen't boost the distortion very well on that amp.

  • @GamingPerson123 what should i get then? any thoughts?

  • roland cube 15 20 and 30xs are pritty good

  • this or boss sd1

  • The Boss SD-1 is one of Boss's better pedals, I want to get one again to mod. It does have a pronounced mid hump, so I myself would use it more for soloing and the MXR ZW-44 for a base metal tone.

  • What amp is being used for this demo?.. All I want to know is the brand

  • @Justynization I emailed ToneFactor directly and asked them what amp they used and was told by Brad they used a Mesa Boogie F-50 when recording this.

  • if your gettin soo much feedback in a tube amp its because ur overdrivin the tubes the amp has to be turned up a lil and really get them tubes burin before you can get "heavy metal" drive you can't drive tubes to heavy metal sound when they are barely on unless you want uncontrolled feedback the squeelin feedback and don't aim ur guitar directly at the speaker from like 3' away

  • should i get this or the BOSS MT-2?

  • No, That would be the worst you can do

  • this

  • @HarryTheRockerManiac

get the boss ml-2. this pedal is an OVERDRIVE pedal meant to push the gain of the amp further. if your amp lacks gain, get a distortion pedal like the boss ML-2, if your amp has decent distortion get the wylde overdrive for endless sustain and heavy rhythm but try to get a noise gate. this pedal hisses like shit.

  • @yondaime597 Oh fuck! So this pedal hisses more than other overdrive pedals??

  • if combined with the front end gain of your amp then yeah. if not, it's good for a blues or a soft rock tune.

  • @yondaime597 Damn... I hate the buzzing of the pedals and I really want an overdrive to boost my amp. Also I don't know which one should I buy between this and the boss SD-1 super overdrive.

  • apparently from what i've heard, the sd-1 is the same thing as the wylde overdrive. just encased in the different box. wylde used this pedal on his earlier years. It's cheaper than the Wylde Overdrive. I haven't tested it myself. I only used the wylde overdrive. But between wylde overdrive and the SD-1, it's all up to preference. But don't ever buy a pedal just because of the name on the front. I was at first disappointed but then i realized you need to boost it with the back of your front gain.

  • @yondaime597 yeh... actually this pedal was mainly built just to boost your amp.

Is the sound really good, I mean, is it worthy to spend 200 dls in this pedal??? If it's just like anyother ovedrive sound, I'd rather buy the cheap and great boss SD-1

  • well, the sound isn't bad. I would add it to my rig if I could purchase a noise gate for it. Buy the SD-1. It's cheaper and practically the same thing.

  • @yondaime597 Oh ok... yes, I think I'm going to buy the Boss SD-1. Its waaay cheaper and if Zakk used it before... It has to be a great pedal.

Once I asked to Zakk on twitter, if he uses a noise suppressor or another noise gate, and Zakk himself told me no, he said that his rig wasn't noisy at all. I couldn't believe it, because almost all pedals make some noise, but, damn, Zakk himself told me it wasn't noisy AT ALL!!!! How can I doubt about it! haha

    Thanks for the advices man!!!

  • holy crap I can't believe that. They probably specialized the pedal for him.

  • @yondaime597 hahahahaha!!! LOL. Maybe... I have to ask him if the pedal has a noise gate inside that you can activate, and almost any person know how to switch it on. If he answers me, I'll let you know and if it helps, you wont have to buy a noise gate!! LOL

  • it doesn't have a built in noise gate. I'm sure of that. perhaps he lowers the volume the on the guitar to cancel out the noise.

  • @yondaime597 haha yeh yeh, I know, I was just kidding. He told me something about the guitar volume, but I didn't understand what he was trying to explain. Maybe is what you say

  • the Boss MT-2 is a pedal but MXR ZW-44 is better

  • @HarryTheRockerManiac Well if you like metal get the boss MT-2 hands down!

But if you already got a heavy amp and its not heavy enough for you get this to turn in from heavy to insane!

  • i got a marshall amp, will i get loads of feed back using this pedal with the over drive channel????

  • Yeah, Ive got the same the same set up. Its mostly because my wall power source sucks but having a noise suppressor will get rid of it.

  • thank you..i already have the pedal..but im thinking of buying a dsl..but my pedal does make some noise when i turn the volume up...so..now i just have to buy a noice surpressor =P

  • probably, but it won't be the good feedback, it will most likely be the very high pitch squeeky feedback, if u have a marshall though, u should get nearly perfect feedback levels if u have the gain stages set up correctly

  • that's right

  • yes a shit load my frind has a marshall (not sure wat kind) and this pedel on his amp sound like fucking a cat with razorwire

  • get a boss ns-2 also then you have no feedback and same tone.

  • how much is this overdrive?

  • like 180 dls

  • I got mine US at guitar center for $100

  • Really???? wow... that's pretty cheap!

Here in Mexico, it costs about 180 dls plus the 15% of tax... so it's mor or less around 220 dls.

  • Yeah im in los estados unidos so its probably a big difference, but for an awesome overdrive.

  • alright thanks m8

  • guys i recently started playing on electric and i have a Squire Strat with a Fender Frontman 25v, i love zakk wylde and his music and i was wondering if the pedal was a good add to the set of stuff i already have.

  • Yes, It will sweet your tone in a clean setting and roar like a lion if you set it with dirty amp.

  • What amplifier has been used for this demo?

What setting on the overdrive channel?

  • wish peavey 6505+ dirty amp or mesa roadster combain with zakk wylde overdrive

  • Well, First of all, You HAVE TO buy a GUITAR AMPLIFIER.

  • i just need this little pedal, i have a zakk wylde guitar and wah pedal.........just waiting for this guy

  • you know, even when you got all his stuff you aint by far that good as the allmighty zakk wylde :D

  • Very sweet tone.

  • what was the riff at .53???

  • random improv.

  • This pedal is only good for a gain boost or getting something like Zakk does. Also depends what amp its going into also.

Not gonna sound the same in a mesa or vox as it does in a marshall.

Other than that, its a bit of a one trick pony.

If your after Zakks tone, put it into a marshall jcm 800 or 900. Other than that, might be better off with something like a maxon or if your lucky to get one, a zen drive.

  • Dude I recently went to guitarcenter and I played this pedal through a clean fender NOS blues junior. It's a great tranparent overdrive if you set the tone right.

  • well then get another distortion but thanks for voicing your opinion

  • hooray for stillborn

  • I NEED FRIGGING HELP PLZ. i have a line 6 AMP... it has clean channel, crunch channel metal channel and insane channel... if i want that crazy SUSTAIN sound will it fit on one of my distorted channels?

  • yep..

  • it would but line 6 amps take pedals like shit!!!! sell your line 6 and get a Vox ad30vt, its a tube amp and sound alot more real than the line 6 and has the same feutures the line 6 does. then get the wylde over drive.

  • I have a roland cube 60 and digitech grunge pedal and when i use it with ready distorted amp, sound get so muddy and i have to play whole time or the amp starts to yell so much.

Would this one work without problems with distroted amp?

  • you really shouldnt use a distortion pedal with an allready distorted amp and really not a grunge pedal you should pick it up and throw it out a window but this is a overdrive pedal so if you turn the gain down and use it like a boost like zakk for solos and stuff its ok

  • Yea now when i buy that roland i founded the grunge pedal sounds awful.

  • mess with ur eq on the roland??!!? or buy an eq pedal

  • yeah, I thats what I use my overdrive for too and am thinking of upgrading to the wylde overdrive

  • hey someone help me out a little. I have the marshall mg100 watt half stack. should i get this pedal?

  • well thats probly the closest your gonna get to his tone without using tubes

  • thats what I was thinkin. ive played through this pedal on other amps and it sounds good but never tried it through my amp and I just wanted somebody elses opinion. thanks man i apreciate it.

  • yesss

  • I wanna have these and a Seymour Duncan Blackouts Metal AHB-2 bridge pickup so this would be screaming loud.

  • sounds like it kicks major ass... nice and simple too. Im going to look such a fanboy when i buy this and the ZW crybaby but i dont care :)

  • what tuning r u using?

  • what guitar r u using

  • what amp are you using? and does it create alot of noise when you boost ur amps overdrive with the ZW?

  • Yea. So don't put all the distortion knobs on maximum on this distortion pedal, only slight. Coz the crunch distortion made was on his amplifier on Overdrive and he uses EMG Active Pickups. Well just get a Noise Supressor.

  • i upgraded mine to 3pdt footswitch. so it doesnt fail me anymore.

  • would this help ur pinch harmonics come through better??

  • same question! i can get em on most strings except the bottom low E, i can hear them kinda quite but they arnt really squealing, will this pedal help to boost gain and obviously distortion?

  • Comment removed

  • like he said...use overdrive on the amp or guitar..then use the pedal to help boost the distortion ( that helps the squling)

  • i know i might get yelled at for saying this but i find that the higher u go on the string and the fret board, the closer u have to get to the neck pickip for good pinch harmonics

  • I think most of it has to do with the pickups you have because I can't get them either but more distortion also might help alot.

  • Comment removed

  • wat r u plugged into? it sounds awesome

  • probably a marshall classic stack coz it's the same tone as zakk wylde

  • yeaaah! sounds good

  • Song at 1:37? Thanks

  • bleed for me

  • bleed for me-BLS

  • thanks

  • WOW....never heard a better pinch in my life hahaha...like how u play the zakk tunes also

  • sincerely, i bought this pedal and is just an average overdrive pedal. You could buy a better one.

  • good job on the perry mason riff

  • 1:22 I heard the brutal No More Tears riff

  • wow. this pedal really does the trick. that was just the MXR a
