I just got this pedel and on a clean Chanel it's sounds nice but wen I use it to boost my overdrive on my amp it Dosnt make a difference apart from a loud buzzin sound am using a Marshall mg15dfx and emg 81x on my les Paul custom
@MrJoshbolton u use a custom les paul, but a solid state marshal??? Any pedal and guitar will sound awfull through that... Get a decent valve amp.. so you les paul justice... that is if it's a real one of course... ;o)
@SeppermanProductions Pretty sure you can do the standard TS9 all volume no gain dealie, its just that most of the reviewers don't ever try it. Besides, the ZW-44 is an SD-1 with a few components changed on the circuit for less upper mids/highs, probably more gain, and to make the bypass better.
@joachimekstrom well a chorus pedal and an overdrive aren´t comparable, so you should think about what you need most. Furthermore I think that both pedals work good with the ZW-Wah, but you should try to find an individual sound if you aren´t in a Black Label Society/ Ozzy Coverband ^^
how do you get this sound. i got a d100 half stack amp with a dean that has sh-13 pick ups and when i use this pedal it sound like crap. i just got this pedal today and ben messing with for a while now.
Might sound stupid, but has anyone tried to use this pedal for any Hendrix tune. My problem is I have two awesome OD pedals on my board (wampler Ecstasy and fulltone OCD) but I wanna get a pedal that will make my tone reach high gains and fuzz. The two pedals I have, have a rather sweet od. Any suggestions?
i just got this pedal, and im trying to find a good sound. i have a peavy vypyr, with all the settings on clean. then i have a behringer UM300 distortion pedal, then goes through the MXR pedal, on the zakk wylde settings. i CANT get a good sound at all like these demo videos have. i have a epiphone les paul limited edition custom, and it seems like theres just so much distortion and feedback you cant hear what you're playing. do you guys suggest anything? thanks!

@duartesaavedra ZW-44. In my opinion, digital sounds crappy and thin. The ZW-44 is a pretty fucking kick ass pedal, but the M-116 Fullbore Metal is the best for uber high gain. It has super boosted everything, so you might have to get it toned down in the low end like mine because if you palm mute you might get this weird low octave feed back that fucks you up.
@TheMetalGuy01 I have the Bad Monkey , Ibanez TS7 and Boss sd-1 and to my ears the Bad Monkey sounds the best. I also changed the preamp tube to a Tung Sol 12AX7 and that made this amp sound a lot better. I've heard the Zakk overdrive and it sounds great, but I haven't played it through the HT-5, so I can't really say how good it will sound.
I'd say the most important factor in the quality of this recording is the amp. If you did a little research, you'd come to realize that this pedal is meant mainly for Marshall amplifyers. Go ahead, try using it with a Marshall, THEN judge the sound quality.
I've played F-50 and it sounds not cool at all compared with some higher-grade MESA amps I've heared, which is obvious 'cuz it's their cheapest model (except for F-30, but that one's out of production now).
dont get dis pedal it sux i bought it and played it 4 an hour and realized it was a mistake it has horrible distortion and it doesnt sound like zakk wylde. he doesnt even use it he uses a boss ds-1 distortion pedal. they just paid him to put his name on it so dey cld make a quike buck off of a cheap poor quality pedal. trust me dont waist $100 on dis its not worth it.
@ansdpdls yes i had awful feedback. i dont own a noise suppressor pedal but it will help with da feedback. but i still wudnt recommend dis pedal. i wld recommend a distortion pedal. like da digi-tech hardwire metal distorion. you can go from zakks sound to even a deeper grittier heavier sound. and its da same price
I fuckin' want this to boost my Blues junior! I have the dime pedal and use that but I want this to boost both! Just gotta find a way to fork out a 100 bucks.
to me yea.. I mean when im playing distorted i just hit the pedal for super overdrive for a solo or somthing and it feels so much better. So when i play without one it just feels weird.
I wouldn't recommend it. you end up just getting a load of extra noise when you aren't playing and it dosen't boost the distortion very well on that amp.
The Boss SD-1 is one of Boss's better pedals, I want to get one again to mod. It does have a pronounced mid hump, so I myself would use it more for soloing and the MXR ZW-44 for a base metal tone.
if your gettin soo much feedback in a tube amp its because ur overdrivin the tubes the amp has to be turned up a lil and really get them tubes burin before you can get "heavy metal" drive you can't drive tubes to heavy metal sound when they are barely on unless you want uncontrolled feedback the squeelin feedback and don't aim ur guitar directly at the speaker from like 3' away
get the boss ml-2. this pedal is an OVERDRIVE pedal meant to push the gain of the amp further. if your amp lacks gain, get a distortion pedal like the boss ML-2, if your amp has decent distortion get the wylde overdrive for endless sustain and heavy rhythm but try to get a noise gate. this pedal hisses like shit.
@yondaime597 Damn... I hate the buzzing of the pedals and I really want an overdrive to boost my amp. Also I don't know which one should I buy between this and the boss SD-1 super overdrive.
apparently from what i've heard, the sd-1 is the same thing as the wylde overdrive. just encased in the different box. wylde used this pedal on his earlier years. It's cheaper than the Wylde Overdrive. I haven't tested it myself. I only used the wylde overdrive. But between wylde overdrive and the SD-1, it's all up to preference. But don't ever buy a pedal just because of the name on the front. I was at first disappointed but then i realized you need to boost it with the back of your front gain.
@yondaime597 yeh... actually this pedal was mainly built just to boost your amp.
Is the sound really good, I mean, is it worthy to spend 200 dls in this pedal??? If it's just like anyother ovedrive sound, I'd rather buy the cheap and great boss SD-1
well, the sound isn't bad. I would add it to my rig if I could purchase a noise gate for it. Buy the SD-1. It's cheaper and practically the same thing.
@yondaime597 Oh ok... yes, I think I'm going to buy the Boss SD-1. Its waaay cheaper and if Zakk used it before... It has to be a great pedal.
Once I asked to Zakk on twitter, if he uses a noise suppressor or another noise gate, and Zakk himself told me no, he said that his rig wasn't noisy at all. I couldn't believe it, because almost all pedals make some noise, but, damn, Zakk himself told me it wasn't noisy AT ALL!!!! How can I doubt about it! haha
@yondaime597 hahahahaha!!! LOL. Maybe... I have to ask him if the pedal has a noise gate inside that you can activate, and almost any person know how to switch it on. If he answers me, I'll let you know and if it helps, you wont have to buy a noise gate!! LOL
@yondaime597 haha yeh yeh, I know, I was just kidding. He told me something about the guitar volume, but I didn't understand what he was trying to explain. Maybe is what you say
thank you..i already have the pedal..but im thinking of buying a dsl..but my pedal does make some noise when i turn the volume up...so..now i just have to buy a noice surpressor =P
probably, but it won't be the good feedback, it will most likely be the very high pitch squeeky feedback, if u have a marshall though, u should get nearly perfect feedback levels if u have the gain stages set up correctly
guys i recently started playing on electric and i have a Squire Strat with a Fender Frontman 25v, i love zakk wylde and his music and i was wondering if the pedal was a good add to the set of stuff i already have.
This pedal is only good for a gain boost or getting something like Zakk does. Also depends what amp its going into also.
Not gonna sound the same in a mesa or vox as it does in a marshall.
Other than that, its a bit of a one trick pony.
If your after Zakks tone, put it into a marshall jcm 800 or 900. Other than that, might be better off with something like a maxon or if your lucky to get one, a zen drive.
Dude I recently went to guitarcenter and I played this pedal through a clean fender NOS blues junior. It's a great tranparent overdrive if you set the tone right.
I NEED FRIGGING HELP PLZ. i have a line 6 AMP... it has clean channel, crunch channel metal channel and insane channel... if i want that crazy SUSTAIN sound will it fit on one of my distorted channels?
it would but line 6 amps take pedals like shit!!!! sell your line 6 and get a Vox ad30vt, its a tube amp and sound alot more real than the line 6 and has the same feutures the line 6 does. then get the wylde over drive.
I have a roland cube 60 and digitech grunge pedal and when i use it with ready distorted amp, sound get so muddy and i have to play whole time or the amp starts to yell so much.
Would this one work without problems with distroted amp?
you really shouldnt use a distortion pedal with an allready distorted amp and really not a grunge pedal you should pick it up and throw it out a window but this is a overdrive pedal so if you turn the gain down and use it like a boost like zakk for solos and stuff its ok
thats what I was thinkin. ive played through this pedal on other amps and it sounds good but never tried it through my amp and I just wanted somebody elses opinion. thanks man i apreciate it.
Yea. So don't put all the distortion knobs on maximum on this distortion pedal, only slight. Coz the crunch distortion made was on his amplifier on Overdrive and he uses EMG Active Pickups. Well just get a Noise Supressor.
same question! i can get em on most strings except the bottom low E, i can hear them kinda quite but they arnt really squealing, will this pedal help to boost gain and obviously distortion?
i know i might get yelled at for saying this but i find that the higher u go on the string and the fret board, the closer u have to get to the neck pickip for good pinch harmonics

The best tone-lesson is at 1:07 when you turn on the distortion on the amp... I wonder, how much of it did you apply (without the pedal)?

This pedal is only good for a gain boost or getting something like Zakk does. Also depends what amp its going into also.
Not gonna sound the same in a mesa or vox as it does in a marshall.
Other than that, its a bit of a one trick pony.
If your after Zakks tone, put it into a marshall jcm 800 or 900. Other than that, might be better off with something like a maxon or if your lucky to get one, a zen drive.

Dude I recently went to guitarcenter and I played this pedal through a clean fender NOS blues junior. It's a great tranparent overdrive if you set the tone right.

well then get another distortion but thanks for voicing your opinion

I NEED FRIGGING HELP PLZ. i have a line 6 AMP... it has clean channel, crunch channel metal channel and insane channel... if i want that crazy SUSTAIN sound will it fit on one of my distorted channels?
MrDarkHawk 2 years ago
yep..
belafarinrodisgod 2 years ago
it would but line 6 amps take pedals like shit!!!! sell your line 6 and get a Vox ad30vt, its a tube amp and sound alot more real than the line 6 and has the same feutures the line 6 does. then get the wylde over drive.

I have a roland cube 60 and digitech grunge pedal and when i use it with ready distorted amp, sound get so muddy and i have to play whole time or the amp starts to yell so much.
Would this one work without problems with distroted amp?
l1ttleg1ant 2 years ago
you really shouldnt use a distortion pedal with an allready distorted amp and really not a grunge pedal you should pick it up and throw it out a window but this is a overdrive pedal so if you turn the gain down and use it like a boost like zakk for solos and stuff its ok
tylersinger2 2 years ago
Yea now when i buy that roland i founded the grunge pedal sounds awful.
l1ttleg1ant 2 years ago
mess with ur eq on the roland??!!? or buy an eq pedal

I wanna have these and a Seymour Duncan Blackouts Metal AHB-2 bridge pickup so this would be screaming loud.

what tuning r u using?
theraptor1975 2 years ago
what guitar r u using
matheus101290 2 years ago
what amp are you using? and does it create alot of noise when you boost ur amps overdrive with the ZW?
supershaun215 2 years ago
Yea. So don't put all the distortion knobs on maximum on this distortion pedal, only slight. Coz the crunch distortion made was on his amplifier on Overdrive and he uses EMG Active Pickups. Well just get a Noise Supressor.
keanoscarermitano619 2 years ago
i upgraded mine to 3pdt footswitch. so it doesnt fail me anymore.

would this help ur pinch harmonics come through better??
JONNYmcLAUGHLIN 2 years ago
same question! i can get em on most strings except the bottom low E, i can hear them kinda quite but they arnt really squealing, will this pedal help to boost gain and obviously distortion?

JONNYmcLAUGHLIN 2 years ago
like he said...use overdrive on the amp or guitar..then use the pedal to help boost the distortion ( that helps the squling)
claptonandslash4life 2 years ago
i know i might get yelled at for saying this but i find that the higher u go on the string and the fret board, the closer u have to get to the neck pickip for good pinch harmonics
dimebagisgod13 2 years ago
I think most of it has to do with the pickups you have because I can't get them either but more distortion also might help alot.
