The record was there for Clark to take and in 50 yrs they will remember that and not Mattys 380. I still remember Dougie hitting one into the carpark at the SCG and Sobers 165 same place Sobers hit a six out through the gate, great hit. Raised in NSW I have lived in Brisbane for 30 yrs but still a Bluesman. Cannot stand the Qld hype.
Hayden only had the record for 12 months maybe less before Lara scored 400. I agree Lara's innings was a lot better as the opposition was of higher quality. Haydens innings is still a magnificent knock. He batted most of the innings without a helmet and smashed the ball everywhere.
