so this is what a professional flute player sound like hmmm cool I have been playing flute for 3 years and my band teacher told me to listen to a professional who plays my instrument and i must say this is great!
@tomypaes A deepness of sound that a wooden flute could never achieve? Where did you get this one from? The word rustic sounds kind of derogatory in this contest, but anyway.... Baroque flutes are so different from Bohm ones that the material won't make the sound significantly close imo (maybe just a little "closer", but not "close")
Of course - Anyone who has played both flutes can notice that the resonant silver sound from the Boehm Flute is something that the other flute cannot physically achieve. Not derogatory - Its characteristic
You said "A deepness of sound that a wooden flute could never achieve? Where did you get this one from? " - It was a pretty obvious question - so I gave you an obvious answer
@davidgon98 I asked Pahud at the Manchester flute convention... he said "it is my trusty Altus with an Arista headjoint" he seemed like a down to earth sort of guy, but he plays the flute like a super human!
@dasteufelhund Well I don't know about what he normally plays on but I do know the only flute manufacturer who makes a gold mechanism and tone holes is Nagahara which is what that flute looks like.
@teichiboy He normally plays on a 14k Brannen with Sheridan headjoint, and this video is him with that flute. Do some research first because based on what you said, revealed you don't know mcuh about the flute manufacturing industry.
@dasteufelhund I'm sorry when I posted that I meant say 20k which the sound was dark and centered enough btu then again it is Pahud it will sound brilliant either way
@teichiboy if it is a 20k gold flute he's playing on, even top players would find themselves have to put out more than what they're used to to get the air moving, to get that dense metal to respond. Certainly as you said, he would find a way to make it work, and sound brilliant regardless.
@tomypaes Actually, his sound is not consider as "resonant", because his sound does not have the wide harmonic partials. I don't know where you get that "wooden flute could never achieve with the resonance Pahud plays", but wooden flutes are very much capable of resonant tone.
@flautistafallito yea, im suspecting that too, you see places where he breathes and not hear a breath in the audio. plus, it doesnt look like he's blowing air through his embouchure.
Sir(s): If I may, at this Date and Time, state here how We find this piece from J. S. BACH so finely played here by Mr. Emmanuel PAHUD. We must say how this is such a dulcit and sweet sound in the once-upon-a-Time Warehouse of Roughians. Thank you very much, Sir and Mam. Merci beaucoups, Monsieurs et Madames.
This is awesome... it sounds so free. Pahud plays it like it would be the easiest thing in the world! And I can imagine that this piece by Bach is not easy at all! =D By the way, I'm thinking of studying by him in Geneva, when I'm finished with school.
per me è stupenda.
Fantastique!...but why the giddy camerawork? Very unnecessary.
Gutsy and intelligent playing. Perfect phrasing. This is how Bach should be played. No messing about, just understand the framework and let it sing... Wonderful wonderful!!
I love playing the drums and bass guitar but distinctly remembering that when I was playing my flute I thought to myself, "this is why God created us".
I think it's... the background music added to the video... no offense to Pahud, but... EXACTLY the same as his "Bach" record (with the Brandenberg concerto)...
Maybe for acoustics. It's surprising sometimes, the strangest places make instruments just sing. Or maybe it was just for some kind of artistic affect... Who knows..
just came back to listen to this again. I really like his performances. As for my comment below, i think he chose the rundown house because of the little echo in the background of the sound of the flute when he plays it? It sounds nice..
no, i disagree. I like the juxtaposition between the sharp, clean, orderly nature of Bach set amidst the rustic nature of this environment. The contrast is beautiful and helps to fully realize the essence of the music. It goes to show that Bach's music is for everyone, everywhere, not just for stuck up bourgeois in ornate concert halls. Poignant and original direction for this video. Bravo.
Comunque concordo sulle riprese...

Pahud makes metal flutes resonate with a deepness of sound that a wooden flute could never achieve.
A wooden flute would make it sound more rustic and baroque, which is DIFFERENT. Not better.
