  • THANK YOU TO GOD AND THIS HERO!!!!!!!!!!

  • Einfach toll das man Soviel aufwand betreibt um einen Hund zu retten =D ein Großes lob an die retter!

  • Damn that looks fun . . .i bet that Air Squad is having fun!!!

  • I can't believe the comments. But, they are what they are. Anyway, watching that dude... holy fuck he is like superman saving that dog... that brought tears to my eyes. THANK YOU! :)

  • It would be funny if they let the dog go and it jumped back into the river.

  • They don't give a crap about the dog! That dog has something that the government

wants back so that they can keep us blind. They probably put the dog to sleep after

    they where done!

  • @screamero23 no they didn't put the dog to sleep. He was a four-year old german shephered named Spikey. He was kept in quarantine for ten days to check for rabies and then turned over alive and healthy to the Medina family.

  • I remember this. Unfortunately, the dog was taken to an animal shelter where he was put to sleep 2 weeks later.

  • @MustangMan1 No they didn't put him to sleep.. troll.

  • i remember this on the news it was pretty epic job by the firefighters

  • they are sending a helicopter, 2 ambulances, a big crane, and a truck with a boat? that dog could have been saved by one man!

  • @trm301433

It has nothing to do with loving animals too much. As a firefighter, I can tell you. Our job is to save property, but most of all lives, whether it be human or not. As for tax-payers money, that is what the FD is for. Glad to see the dog was rescued.

  • fantastic work, great job and im really happy that the dog survived!!

  • This shows there is still some good left in this world =)

  • At first I was like "wow, they spent all this time doing this...- this is news?", and then, something just kind of clicked and I realized how amazing it was that they were willing to go this extent to help a dog, and it just made my heart smile...

  • @CPeyser08

true and also it was a great training experience for the LAFD..next time this could be a child

  • As should be , why wouldnt you stop an rescue animals abandoned in floods...

  • I know I foam at the mouth too-and way too often. Howevah!

I've never seen the slums of LA--my brother has. I just get upset at watching a muliti million dollar rescue team wasted on an animal when there are children in LA who don't get medical attention. My niece is nurse with "Doctors Without Borders." LA is not what we see in movies, trust me!

  • @Plainzdrifter You know what why dont we save both animals and children

  • @clugaman

Now that's not a bad idea!!

  • I can't believe some of the HEARTLESS comments on here - I mean come on, shoot the dog? You people obviously don't have pets if that's your thoughts - for those who have a pet and adore them, they'd want everything done to save this poor frightened animal! YAY to the people who saved him.

  • @suemorton1408 If the onwer had a nickel's worth of responsibility, he would never have let the dog off his leash. That is the city of Los Angeles, not some Montana town of 550 people where dogs can run at large. A chopper and a crew such as that can cost in upwards of $15,000 per hour to maintain. I get a kick out of Americans who lecture us (Canada) on how we need to love our pets, yet some of you have to travel to Canada for health care.

Forget the dogs, care for your people!

  • I'm from Canada you moron - and I do care about people, and I realize that that must have been expensive, but come on, suggesting a bullet be taken to it?

  • If it makes you feel any better, forget the bullet. A guy standing on the edge of the concrete and extending a hook inside the dog's collar would have pulled the mutt out! Why a helicopter?

  • OK that I will agree to, after all, it's not the animal's fault that the owner is a dumbass and let it get down there......sorry for "yelling", I'm just not in favor of animal cruetly......

  • I can't believe that you'd have the nerve to broadcast this shit for the world to see how ingnorant you guys can get! Fuck!

  • What a screwed up world. A millon dollar helicopter wasting manpower and fuel to save a fucking dog. I'll bet that less than 10 blocks away, there's a dozen kids that need surgery and can't afford it. If the dog had a an ounce of brains, he would have swam downsteam to the nearest approach. SOLUTION: One 270 cal. bullet. Lights out puppy!

  • What a heartless person you are! You obviously don't have a pet, or if you do, you don't realize just how precious they are....I only hope something like this happens to you one day, whether it's to you yourself or someone you love and nobody's there to save the situation - or as you say - lights out....

  • All fat chicks report to my channel.

  • jajaja and the owner is a wet back like me

  • @crazychicali

There's something called a heart. Do you have one? I know our taxes go to many useless things such as funding for Obamaland but knock off with the wasting of a dog rescue. Good idea about the shelters. I wish more people would adopt. But people want the pure bred dogs still sadly. So please next time keep the "Why save a stupid animal??" comment to yourself. Dogs are man's best friend. Remember that. That man saved a life regardless of the species of the victim.

  • the first night when i lost my dog i cry and i felt so bad...i cant image it if this happpend to me!!!!!!!!!!!! good for the dog and his family!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AWESOME! Hats off to the LAFD and all other FD's

  • The dog would have done the same I'm sure.

  • oh god bless the hero!

  • A Hero!

  • dats my grandmas dog spikey

  • Though we should value human life over the life of a dog, I think it says a lot about humans that we're willing to go to great lengths to rescue one. They are after all, 'Man's best friend!'

  • aww, this is so sweet :)

  • @jkeller2008 sry mate ... I didn't mean to offend you, but you know at what kind of ppl i reefer to...

Like you say. Dogs are dieing in the streets, where everybody can rescue them but they don't....this one gets a helicopter and the guy who was bitten is a hero now . LOL

  • Uh, well, yours, yes, I think that'd be a good decision. I wasn't talking about a human and a dog next to each other dumbass. I'm saying a life is a life. If there was someone to rescue out there, you really think they'd have gone after the dog? Fucking retard...

  • Meecka..................

    You must be a GFN

    rather GOOD FOR NOTHING!

were you to be in need of help they would do even a better rescue job on you than to the poor dog!

You MUST BE A TERRORIST! !

    Just shut your hole, ok??

  • Hey JWRAMC............

GREAT, I´LL HAVE NO SAY ......I HOPE YOU GOT THE MESSAGE ACROSS! and just ignore those idiots (a man that won´t care for a dog won´t care for any human being or any living creature!!)

GREAT WORDS! THANK YOU, JWRAMC!!! Thank you very much!

  • Thing is, this is just one rescue and the dog is still a life. I'd complain more about the many rescues of fucking idiots who go and get themselves into trouble and expect these guys to come and rescue their dumb asses.

Besides, this is good practice for when one of those idiots (like the types that have to go and watch the fast water...or the ones that go for a hike on a mountain with nothing but shorts when a storm is due in town) need to be rescued. Go LAFD!

  • @lonegunmanorig Thumbs down my friend. Your telling me that a dogs life is worth more than a humans in your opinion. So if you were drowning 500 feet away from this dog, you'd rather have the fire department air lift him out before you? Just saying. And yes, go LAFD.

  • wow heros are sexy, all for a dog?

  • This is from Foxnew's website:

"At least 50 firefighters responded to reports that the dog was in the river on Friday afternoon. For an hour, firefighters stood at the top of the steep, concrete banks, throwing life vest and float rings, hoping the dog would grab on. Most of the time, the canine walked along a pipe or ledge in the center of the river, sometimes slipping. One firefighter got into the river and tried to catch him, but the dog took off. Soon the pipe was submerged."

  • Ok , i saw my comment was remove. And i saw some ppl agree with me.

The ideea was .... so many ppl for one dog, so many cars and 1 helicoper....for one dog....

Whit all this money you can save sum1 life ... but you americans are stupid bcuz wasteing it on sum poor animal... FFS guys GROW UP!

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Meecka... You think they should have just stood by while the poor dog was about to drown to save a buck??? First of all, try to make some sort of sense when posting on a public blog! Secondly, LEARN HOW TO SPELL YOU IGNORANT IDIOT!

  • Comment removed

  • Clearly you're an idiot. The firefighters were all "ON ALERT", at their stations, and GETTING PAID to stand around, waiting to rescue anyone needing help. THE MONEY WAS GETTING SPENT ANYWAY and no humans needed help at that time- so the fire department decided it was better to get some good practive in instead of standing around, wasting money. It made perfect sense to go ahead and grab the dog. And if it DIODN'T make sense, *I* would have done it anyway and said F.U. to all the critics.

  • @meecka I agree with you 100%. By the way i'm american and we're not all stupid asshole. But anyways, SOME od us are ignorant enough to believe that a dogs life is worth more than a human. A dog died down my street 2 nights ago. It was sad but he didnt get a helicopter rescue

  • follow the way! oh ya!

  • Good Job !

  • holy shit good fkg job!!

  • :59secs- "the dogs scared" lol, no shit sherlock- brillant work LAFD

  • To everyone saying Americans are stupid:

I hardly think you can just group a whole race together like that, but if you really want to play that game...

    HUMEN ARE FUCKING STUPID!

This lot are DEFINITELY heros for saving that dog!!

  • you spelt humans wrong.. way to prove a point

  • Oh wow, I'm sorry, i am so insignificant because i spelled humans wrong. It just so happens to be a word that i haven't spelled very often, is there a problem with that!?

  • i mean... any educated person would be conscious of spelling a word like that. and Americans aren't considered a "race". Race is socially constructed by humans. Besides you're whole "stupid" idea, I agree with what you said, how you can't group Americans together and then say their ALL stupid based on one instance. Humans aren't stupid either though... although most are

  • @leilarosenthal i suppose...sometimes i type fast then post before i check. Of course we are the smartest beings on the planet...but it doesn't mean we have to shove every other being away! We never give them the benefit of the doubt simply because they can't communicate as well as us, and their brains aren't as developed. It's just frustrating how we have these huge ass brains, but rarely we put it to the maximum good use!

  • LIKE YOU NOW SHUT YOUR PIEHOLE

  • outstanding.

Thank you. Thank you very much for having such respect for that animal that he was safely rescued. Most people would stupidly say: 'Oh, it's just a dog, go the easier way', and that IF they decided to help him at all.

    Fantastic.

  • i respect america, and the message they give out from this act..

but it looks like a pretty expensive operation they carried out there (fire engine, copter, man power etc.). i'm assuming the tax payers paid for it.

but where i come from, someone would've just climbed down from the side to get the dog. and the dog would have been just as safe.

  • Did they arrest the dog?

  • That was sensational.

Makes James Bond look like WIMP.

Seriously though, it does give one hope that there are good things going on in the world.

  • Meecka shut up that guy is a hero I'm not racist (like you) so I'm not going to say your just a stupid foreign dude

  • That guy is a hero in my eyes.

  • I think that dog was a doctor he will be back at work soon

  • Wow!! What a hero!!

  • hoorayyy for firefighters! love love love!

  • hooray for FFS!! :D

  • someday that dog might save someone's life.

  • I literally would not be sad for a micro second if you got hit by a bus.

  • You shouldn't because its just a troll post enticing you to comment.

  • Excuse me? Sorry that we actually care about animals. Some foreigners are so disgusting. A life is a life... no matter the species.

  • I like you :)

  • I definitely agree that Americans are stupid...

  • Why are they stupid? Because they have the mental capacity to care for something outside their own species?

  • with guys like these u can safley sleep at night :)

  • This is amazing(:!

  • Do you know why they helicoptered in rather than rappelling down the side? Poor dog would have been COMPLETELY terrified just by the copter. Sorry to post a negative comment when everyone's all "oh, my hero" but come on! Way to terrify an already highly stressed animal! Shoot!

  • I can think of a few off hand. Training for flood conditions would be a big one. And the dog doesn't seem to be afraid of the heli itself so much as the stranger approaching it. Either way, that dog would be skittish as hell.

Plus going down the side would risk other people, those trench sides are slick when wet, and then you have to deal with pulling them up without giving them something like road rash.

In the interest of time, I think the chopper was the way to go.

  • How lucky we are to have heroes like this.

    xoxo Savannah

  • it was so nice that cole sprouse wrote a twitt on twiiter saying thank u to the firefighter

    ~Nathan Kress

  • Thanks Firefighter for rescue the dog!! I think that this kind of things doesn't happen eventually...

  • Comment removed

  • Firefighters are true heroes. God Bless them and the dog. Poor puppy, Hope his is doing well.

  • Amazing! Some people are just ... amazing.

  • incredible

  • Thank you very much for saving that poor dog :')

  • aww yayayayayayayayayay!!!!

  • That dog superman'd that hoe..lol awe stuff like this lets me know that there are good people in the world

  • poor puppy

  • "oh my goodness"

    "oh my goodness"

    "oh my goodness"

    "oh my goodness"

    "oh my goodness"

  • Bravo LA Firefighters for this courageous rescue!

  • For those of you such as Word559 saying that it's a waste of money saving this dog how about you think about it this way. The dog barking and squeeling in this water was attracting attention by the public. How long do you think people would sit there until one of them jumped in and then now the Fire Department is rescuing a person instead of the dog? Saving the dog in this manner ensured that there would be no further rescues due to this situation. So please quit talking out of ur ass.

  • Exactly ironmen234,,I cant believe the idiots who cant see beyond the situation, someone from the public would have attempted to rescue the dog and then LAFD would be pulling out possibly a dead body.

  • Awe, that's so sweet.

  • Hey word559, I hope you find yourself in need of help someday soon and the people that are there that could save you, have your attitude!

  • i wouldnt waste a fucken penny saving your fucken life either you fucken asshole, i cant believe you say this heartless words, i really hope people help you when you need help and they wont turn away because of your ignorant attitude!!

  • It's not about the dog only,,you are a retard that cant see beyond the situation,,some retard like yourself would have jumped in to save the dog and then the LAFD would have to jump in to save a fool or pull out a dead body,,you smell like shit too,,

  • Another fine rescue by the LAFD Brothers!!!!

    AZfirefighter

  • Thank you L.A. firefighters & God bless Joe St. Georges for your bravery & kindness!

  • sweaterpuppies1- you're a complete idiot... and a heartless one too.

  • Great job LAFD!!

  • That was a great rescue! and great piloting skills! Since you cant flight around power lines I wonder if the FAA will try to put a ding on his record for doing that.

  • if it's for emergency use you can't fine them.

  • Comment removed

  • I know they can't get fined but they have to call it to the tower first. I am just hoping that the pilot gets credits for this rescue too not just Mr Joe for saving the dog.

LAFD and LAPD did a great job on that!!! -does anyone have an update on the dog and its owner? I would love to have that dog!

  • Joe and all of the LAFD & PD did a great job. I talked to my sister who said Joe's doing fine. It's really cool seeing your friends on TV.

  • I loved it! Isn't it hilarious how dogs always paddle when over water? It's a good thing it was busy doing that rather than struggling to get away! I loved it! Thanks for sharing!

  • @OnePickieChickie Pickie, I noticed that too. funny.!

  • @blinko656 People can gripe about the money spent. However, this was good practice for the helicopter and the rescuer. And, to the person who criticized the LAPD for wasting thousands of dollars, I wonder what you'd be saying if that was your beloved pet who was rescued?

  • @OnePickieChickie Exactly I agree. Good training and good PR. I noticed on our news that the rescuer took a good bite from the doggie. He was bandaged up pretty well. All in all - it was great..

  • @sweaterpuppies1 If it was your dog would you have been thankful?

  • Sweaterpuppies1- What an f-ing cold prickley THAT was! You dink! Do you really think that if someone was in need of a firemans help or air rescue that they would have been turned away?!? Pull your head out of your butt! What a buzz kill on the nice moment I had watching this rescue and feeling so happy about it. I hope you do not (or ever intend to) have children. Wow!

  • Comment removed

  • I had to turn the news off because I was sure this story would end badly. THANK YOU LA FIREFIGHTERS for a good ending. Best wishes to Firefighter Joe St Georges for being willing to stick it out for a frightened canine.

  • He's a great firefighter and a great friend.

  • This says that LA City has compassion. They had to get OK,s from a few Chiefs..

    Well Done Brothers.

    Retired

  • you'll get a million hits.

    Nice post.

  • Somebody buy that Fireman a beer!

  • I am going to go hug my dog right now.

  • i saw that too. my heart ached for the poor thing.

As a man of prayer, and i did pray, the fireman coming down to rescue the dog was like an angel decending from the heavens. Sorry if im too much of a sap.

  • I saw that,I'm glad they got the dog.
