  • Ponty and Clarke had been playing together long before Fleck got along , with the likes of Al di Meola , Corea , etc , what explains a certain lack of chemistry at first.... Though Fleck is a genius on his own , coming from a different background (same as Jerry Douglas , Mike Marshall and Edgar Meyer) , he still can play a much wider array of styles than these two - bluegrass and classical just to mention a couple - effortlessly...

  • @syadkir Just watched a clip from a performance with Ponty, Clarke and di Meola from 1994, and I hear ya.

I don't know Fleck's music and therefore didn't say anything about his talent, but on stage with these two he seemed as if he was holding back. Perhaps as a trio they did not play pieces in which he could shine...

  • @NovaScotiaChick-I am a fan of Bela Flek but when I saw him with these guys I had the same reaction-He was just out-classed.

  • Saw these guys live in Montreal, probably also in 2005 when they performed as Trio! Especially the interaction between Ponty and Clarke was to die for. What a FAB show! Have been a big fan of Ponty since early 80's so it was a real treat to see him live. I love his aura and Clarke is ooooh sexy. This clip unfortunately does not show their inimitable on-stage energy and the music to match it. Fleck is lucky to have played with them, just my opinion - but then, I am not a fan of his music.

  • 1:42-1:47 sounds like Jean-Luc morphed into a Bull Elk during mating season, pretty cool! -You know I'm right! I wonder if he does that kinda shit on purpose, "Oh yeah, I'm totally gonna play the elk bugle riff thing, into that dolphin whistle noise, with maybe some seagulls at the end" He's capable

  • Was there ever an album released with these 3 guys?

  • @Juo1234567890 Unfortunately, it does not seem so. On the jambase website you can see where they toured in 2005, everywhere, as Trio! Why no album? Also hardly any clips available of these three. Anyone who does know about album or more clips, I'd love to know!

  • I had the opportunity of seeing them live. Awesome.

  • brilliant....sounds great....very unique

  • Excellent... lol... Stanley Clarke, --awesome performance

  • OMG! Stanley playing upright like eletric bass...I never ever seen any professional playing like this. So clean and nice tuned.

I thought that Eddie Gomez is the monster of Upright but now I'm wrong!

    God Bless Stanley

  • Let me tell ya, you see Stanley do this and the other bass players are good, but not like Stanley. This guy does that triple octave slap that is just unreal. Missed Bela Fleck touring with Ponty and Clarke..

  • Yep. This is great. Les Claypool from Primus also plays a mean upright.

  • @CSXer I love Les Claypool, but he does not play an upright bass like this guy. Clarke is from another world on the instrument.

  • @BassBRplayer I'm a big fan of Eddie Gomez for over twenty years, but Stanely takes the bass to the next limit.

  • These three extraordinary musicians are incredible together. I saw them perform in Denver, Colorado, and it just blew me away. I've always loved the eccentricities of Bela Fleck, and enjoyed Stanley Clark with his guitar, but the combined energy was just breathtaking.

  • this kicks ass.

  • i love all three of them!

  • Just love watching Stan work the bass! I've followed him since the RTF days and saw him play live with them in their VERY short-lived reunion tour (Ritz Theator Elizabeth, NJ) as well as on tour with his own band at Lincoln Center! He did things to the electric bass that just blew away a metalhead friend I brought with me;-)

  • thanks! don't you have more of the "Trio!"?=)

  • amazing!
