  • Well, I could be wrong, but I believe diversity is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

  • "I think it would be "different" to have people of "different kinds of experience"."

It must be true, Charlie. DiversitySpeak really does lower your IQ by 40 points.

  • I'm not advocating anything just throwing my opinion out there. I'm a black male getting a BS in Biology with an emphasis in Biotechnology from the science school in the University of Missouri system. I will graduate summa cum laude and hopefully go on to earn an MD/Ph.D from Northwestern. I have this latent fear that everything I've done will be dismissed because of Affirmative Action. The program really doesn't do as much as people claim but some assume that if you're black you get in anywhere

  • @mxzysptlik You know what the racists say... a black guy has to work twice as hard to get the same place a non-black does, so give him some affirmative action.

Which means maybe he really DOES have to work twice as hard cause everything he achieves is seen as "tainted" by others, many of whom remain secretly bitter at the government-mandated discrimination their people face. No one wins, no one can win.

Talk about an evil house of cards, huh?

  • @thespacialone I only feel this way because people overstate Affirmative Action's effect. Black people still get the shaft in hiring. It's still easier to get a job if your white and you're going head to head with an equally qualified black person or Asian person. But...I'm sure you don't want to talk about that do you?

  • @mxzysptlik Yeah, I'll talk. But you're in for a rough ride.

What is your basis for supporting affirmative action?

Why is it "easier" to get a job if you're white as opposed non-white?

What makes employers "prefer" white employees over non-white ones?

Are employers who "arbitrarily" seek white human resources over non-white human resources likely to survive in a competitive business environment?

Does such discrimination against non-whites appear elsewhere, or is it only in America?

  • @thespacialone White people probably more likely to see apart of themselves in a person that looks more like them. Furthermore there are plenty of people that are racist and don't want to work with Asians or blacks or mexicans so they discriminate against them. Affirmative Action is meant to give people an advantage where one would not exist. The basis being that society cannot be stable unless people are represented at more proportionate numbers.

  • @mxzysptlik "White people probably more likely to see apart of themselves in a person that looks more like them."

Is it ONLY white people who act this way, or all races?

Is it wrong for black people to favor other black people? Is what sense is it wrong, and in what scenarios is it wrong?

Because I see black-only clubs and societies, and B.E.T. and such, but I don't see a W.E.T. In many spheres white-only organisations are illegal whilst non-white ones receive government funding.

  • @thespacialone Have you ever watched CBS shows or ABC or most of the movies nominated for Oscars. Most of the people are white...overwhelmingly white. I guess calling it BET wasn't the best idea it should have been called something else because idiots like yourself seem to run away with that one

  • @mxzysptlik "Oscars. Most of the people are white...overwhelmingly white."

Wait a minute. Are you claiming that Hollywood "discriminates" against black folks too? Against guys like Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Sam Jackson, Jamie Foxx?

It's funny, most black supremacists claim blacks dominate film and music. Not you?

B.E.T. is a symptom whereby victim mentality blacks like you get to play out your ridiculous power fantasies. If I was black, I'd shun it like the plague.

  • @thespacialone Basically what you're saying is that white people are racist and that affirmative action is okay because you're going to prefer your own group to another. You basically just proved my argument for me.

  • @mxzysptlik Mr racist, do whites favor other whites more than other groups favor their group? Do blacks not form their own exclusive clubs in a way that whites don't? What's wrong with black people favoring other black people. Why won't you ever answer these questions?

Why do you support black racism but condemn it in whites?

  • @thespacialone Discussing race does not make someone a bigot. You don't seem to be capable of actually having an adult conversation. Furthermore, you're never going to be my boss. You're just another dumb white person on youtube...get the fuck over yourself

  • @mxzysptlik "Affirmative Action is meant to give people an advantage where one would not exist."

Meaningless gibberish. Discriminating against white people is okay? Why do I owe you anything? Repeat, why do I owe you anything?

If there is no legitimate debt, why does government racially discriminate against me in favor of you?

"Society cannot be stable unless people are represented at more proportionate numbers."

Oh, so the fact the NBA is 77% black makes it "unstable"? Idiot.

  • @thespacialone And golfing is like 90% white! Last time I checked sports have nothing to do with society in general. We're talking about people doing things outside the field of entertainment. There is a difference that I think goes without saying.

  • @mxzysptlik "And golfing is like 90% white!"

You claimed that unless there were X amount of black faces in a field, "society" (whatever society is supposed to mean) would become "unstable". I asked you to corroborate your statement with evidence.

Why do we never hear black supremacists bemoaning the under-representation of Asian Americans in film? Why don't we hear them lamenting the under-representation of whites in basketball? Is it because they only care about themselves?

  • @thespacialone 2) There are plenty of stats showing that a black person of equal qualifications as a white person has a harder time finding a job. It's just the truth! AA is really not doing any harm to you or white people but of course you make it into some big deal. The only reason why you're being defensive is because you are white...I mean look up some videos on youtube with black people in them if you want to see if racism is still a problem...geez

  • @mxzysptlik "There are plenty of stats showing that a black person of equal qualifications as a white person has a harder time finding a job."

Evidence? Who is saying that? I could use a good laugh.

So why is is that income in relation to IQ is completely neutral for blacks and whites. Blacks with IQ 100, for example, earn almost exactly the same as whites.

Asian Americans, who are the most legally discriminated against, actually outperform blacks and whites relative to IQ!

  • Comment removed

  • @mxzysptlik Okay, I'll give you my source for the income-IQ parity claim. Then you give me yours.

All I said was that Asians outperform whites and blacks relative to IQ. The fact they place more emphasis on education as means to success would go a way to explaining it. The fact that the education they are paying for isn't providing enough bang for its buck, so to speak, is largely irrelevant. So why did you bring it up?

  • @thespacialone Listen dumb ass!!! They earn less money in the SAME fields as white people. If you can't understand that idk what to say.

  • @mxzysptlik "AA is really not doing any harm to you or white people but of course you make it into some big deal."

Are you for real, or are you trolling me? Cause you sound like a COMPLETE fucking crook.

Oh, it's just a "little" discrimination, why should you care? Is that what you're saying to me, you arrogant fuck?

"The only reason why you're being defensive is because you are white." Please explain.

Am I less than you? Does discrimination against me count less?

  • @thespacialone What I'm saying is that Affirmative Action does not make up for social discrimination against blacks. It's more difficult for you in this society if you're not white. Everyone seems to recognize this except for people like yourself. Even those mythological Asians recognize that you guys have an advantage. Also, go bitch to white women who benefit the MOST from affirmative action...

  • @mxzysptlik "It's more difficult for you in this society if you're not white."

Yeah, because of evil people like you. You'd probably excuse any amount of black racism as some kind of payback against the evil whiteman. Deep down you're no better/different than those Black Panther street hustlers we see intimidating white voters and calling for the murder of white babies.

You could at least admit that to yourself.

    This guy knows... /watch?v=LHTSjcZwEUc

  • @thespacialone Dude...just shut up

  • @mxzysptlik Oh, and btw, your future employer will likely employ a data mining company to record all you've just said. Maybe they'll turn a blind eye to your hateful bigotry. But if it was me making the decision, you wouldn't get a look in. Period. Life's too short to have to deal with dirtbags like you.

Or maybe you can stop with your hate and rejoin the human species? Thomas Sowell would be a good place to start.

    /watch?v=g6IJV_0p64s

  • I love the jingle LibertyPen plays before the Thomas Sowell videos. Anybody know what song that's from?

  • @BuckandRider I would like to know as well, it sounds inspired by"Take Five" by Dave Brubeck, both have that 5/4 timing, love that_

  • Clearly we need a school that's 99% white, diversity is just one of those stumbling blocks obviously.

  • shouldn't liberals tell black people that the slave trade from centuries ago benefits them now? after all, it has increased diversity. these black people never would have been exposed to other cultures had it never happened.

  • @UltraProle21 I am sure you are a sincere gentleman but that is a silly analogy. Immigration has exposed different races to different things and slavery was not a necessity for that to have happened.

  • thomas sowell owns

  • SHOT DOWN!

  • I lost all respect for Charlie Rose in this. he thinks in cliches he doesn't understand. Then when he has the chance to learn something, he objects and says, "Don't make me look bad." Ha! As if the most important thing is his image, not the truth. Shame on Charlie. He disgraced himself before the world. No respect.

  • @DexterHaven49 Yes, I respect people a lot more when they say "I hadn't thought of it that way" or "I agree" instead of worrying about being right regardless of truth.

  • What he is saying is that diversity should not be judge by race but rather by where you come from and your background. Race has nothing to do with it.

  • Essentially what Sowell is saying at 3:30 is EXACTLY why affirmative action is valid all along: the best in an overwhelming majority is only reserved for people with money. So no matter your drive or your desire, it is a fallacy of composition to think the masses are going to get ahead if they start in poverty as opposed to 'Malibu' as he put it. So basically, 99.9% of your, black or not, shouldn't bother with Stanford or Duke, because you weren't already born into it? That's bunk

  • @cbaldwinjr no it's all the more reason it shouldn't be used because why should anyone put any investment into something that they see as having a higher probability to fail. why wouldn't i go with a person with a better history over someone that has been shown more likely than not to be a bad product. It'd would be absurd if it was mandated that everyone buy different things than what you want in the name of "diversity" so why should it make any difference when choosing who you interact with?

  • @cbaldwinjr What you said would make more sense if "getting ahead" meant having access to the very best. No one NEEDS a Cuisinart to make a cup of coffee. Having grown up dirt poor, my drive and desire didn't translate to a degree from Duke, but it did translate to a degree from NC State. I got ahead, you see. Also, rather than imposing affirmative action at the workplace, why not impose it on some of the advanced math and science classes I took? Not a single black guy. Math & science = $.

  • Charlie Rose is an idiot, why is he interviewing anybody?

  • @squarestackolardems

Thats because "universally appealing" was always synonymous for white -white christian male to be specific. If Sowell were to march the opposite direction in his thinking suddenly his intelligence and merit would be under review. Funny that.

  • @Aadonis219 Absolutely. When you cowtow to what white America wants, you can be anything. That's because they still feel like you're pandering to them...i.e. still somehow beneath them. But the moment anyone of color, but especially black men become remotely threatening, all bets are off. That's why athletes and celebrities that speak out, irrespective of how clean their slates are, are vilified. Look at Obama. He's about as 'vanilla' (no pun intended) as it gets, and he's been called everything

  • "I don't know what that means, and I've never had anybody explain it to me" I love when he says things like that and in a few words, cuts through all of the B.S. by not letting the leftists start everything on unfounded assumptions and unexamed premises.

  • Holy shit! Chuck and Tom are looking young in this!

  • thomas sowell is the definition of wisdom

  • @ThreePartAnswer I think he's the definition of bourgeoisie. If Cliff Huxtable was real and extremely myopic about the plight of African-Americans in this country, he'd be Tom Sowell. He's not a self-hater, he's not even a bad man. He's just delusional. I doubt he's ever really encountered life he so easily dismissed in some of his writing and commentary. It's really easy to be pious and finite about things you only see from figures and data, but never with your own two eyes.

  • Sowell is an intellectual lightweight, propped up by the elite as a messenger of white rage and superiority, promoted with a Black face. Charlie Rose embarrassed this "man", which isnt surprising. Sowell, himself, is a complete embarrassment.

  • @flipgood89 spoken like a Black who is dependent on others for survival --- in other words, a societal heavy weight (as in heavy weight or burden on society). Rose wilted attempting to debate Sowell.

  • Comment removed

  • @fzqlcs ..I advance this piece of evidentiary support, Mr. Sowell. This is your fan base, and this is the type of person who is a attracted to your rhetoric. A bottom feeding, cowardly racist like fzquics. A person who assumes I depend on others for survival (like all blacks, right? Except for Mr. Sowell of course...lol), just because i challenge racism and oppressive, societal structures. Get a life, asshole

  • @flipgood89 you misspelled my name ... it figures.

  • flipgood89 <--- A moron that has no idea what he is talking about.

  • flipgood89 Research this guy. He has made comments on other forums where he has played both sides of the race card and insulted whites on one board, and them blacks on another.

He's a troll here to stir up trouble.

  • @tomperanteau ...Listen guy, I dont know who the hell you are or what you're talking about. I'm going to spend as little time on you as possible as to not get caught up in your vortex of bullshit, and slide down into your intellectual sinkhole. If you want to challenge my arguments, fine, go ahead. But I have no patience for your ramblings about "other boards" or whatever other concoctions you got going on in your head. Aren't you a lil' old for these kind of stupid games?

  • @flipgood89 Child, perhaps one day when you are more than an assistant, you'll have a better understanding.

You have no cohesive arguments to counter. You're too young and intellectually challenged to mount one.

No games here, just exposing a troll.

  • @tomperanteau ...Annoying personal attacks may soothe your own fragile ego, but you're not impressing me with your non-sequiturs and blatant falsehoods one bit. You have provided no intellectual counter, except to make shit up about me making racist comments "on other forums". So this is your last chance. Write something of substance, of I'm ignoring you. My contributions on this video and on the "Sowell explains the great depression" are plenty for to sink your teeth into.

  • @flipgood89 As you made none, yourself. In re the video above, you mustered several conclusions with nothing to back then. You insulted a man, who is not here to defend himself, without any statement of fact - only unsupported opinion.

Like shooting fish in a barrel you are...

  • @tomperanteau ....gave you one last chance.....so I say to you good luck in wherever life takes you. Enlarge your spirit so that you are able to take full advantages of all the blessings that may come your way. Take care.

  • @flipgood89 Wow, gave me a last chance? Kids say the darndest things.

Not really even a nice try at a back-handed exit, but what is to be expected from someone that has not yet formed the ability to understand that trolling is not a way of life.

Perhaps one day when you develop just a bit of the wisdom that Sowell has amassed, you can come back to the debate armed, but at this point intellectually shooting you would not even be sporting.

  • I knew "diversity" was bullshit. It is just racism 2.0 by the collectivists. The marxists, communists, whatever you want to call it. There are all kinds of racism.

  • He is right.

  • DrBayoms, you are clueless about Dr. Sowell. He KNEW where his place was - in competion with everybody else, and he acquitted himself admirably on a level playing field at Harvard and then U-Chicago.

  • Sowell is one economist who gets the "science" part of economics. He is independent and non-political, and not afraid to call things as he sees them. He can be quite ornery too; there is not a political bone in his body. He's his own man. Quite refreshing in these times. Read his memoir "A Personal Odyssey" to learn more about Sowell the man

  • @affectivity ....lol, at non-political.

  • If Sowell says something, I know I can take it to the bank. He's about the only public figure I trust implicitly.

  • Thomas Sowell is a social scalpel wielded with deftness and precision.

  • like a boss

  • damn he just ownedddd

  • Sowell was precise about his observation about America’s top universities: the richest students go to these schools regardless of race. I wish America will see there are socio-economic differences with blacks like any other race.

  • Rose can't SHUT UP and let Sowell speak. Rose would rather listen to himself talk and "enlighten" his guest.

  • Diversity=too many honeys in here!

  • I would like to see more diversity in sports like Basketball and golf. Dirk and Tiger ain't cuttin it. We need more whites in b ball and more blacks in golf. Some diversity in the pregnancy thing would be nice too - Mexicans should learn Portuguese also. Come on Rose, get on it!

  • Not tha concept of diversity rather tha practical application (or lack thereof) that impedes tha socialization dynamic. I believe Rose was attempting 2 convey (albeit weakly) that a more diversified campus based upon a model of varying racial/economic/cultural/gender orientations not only better reflects our diverse society but gives its student body better understanding/appreciation/knowledge from those who are different – which by extension goes a long way toward demystifying certain stigmas.

  • Thomas Sowell is very smart. Diversity is a BS concept, it is nonsense and irrational and racist. It is the response to racism by people who never understood what racism was all about in the first place.

  • I'd love to see Sowell debate Obama. Obama would be crying. For those who think white folks are racists who don't like Obama, I'll say this: I'd vote for Sowell in a heartbeat over that clueless politically correct moron in the White House.

  • "what does it mean.... if anything?" hahaha i loved that ! TSowell is so awesome!

  • Charlie is sooo full of shit, hahaha!

  • I dont understand how charlie could possibly argue with him? all sowell has to do is say, look white boy. im a brotha. are you a brotha? i didnt think so. now sit yo white ass down and let me tell you what it is. Niggaz, Niggaz be they own worst enemy. Thas right, if it wern fo Jessie Jackson and affirmative action and all this bullshit, my brothas wouldnt have an entitlement mentality. that mentality is causing them to not work hard, when they doesnt work hard, they doesnt succeed.

  • Yeah, it's really nice having engineering professors every semester who barely speak English, for the sake of diversity. ;)

  • @erikglimpse

Simple, have more white and black american kids do more then just surf online jacking off to Maxim Magazine. Take a breather from Facebook. Use your computer for more than fantasy football and blogging constantly on the downfall of Pro athletes. Turn the TV off, Snookie and Ronnie from 'Jersey Shore' aren't going to take you anywhere in life. That Russian, Indian, Japanese, Chinese, African and Jamaican professor was once a kid who valued something more then a handgun and beer.

  • @drbayoms

If people my age (20s) cared less about pop culture and more about the actual quality of their college education, they'd demand better teachers and cease to rip them and myself off.

It's no longer popular to protest outside the university president's office, especially for an idea like this.

I might as well lock myself in a room and study a book for several hours a day, because that's what I'm doing right now. If I can't understand the professor, that's where I resort.

  • @erikglimpse

That professor did not believe that despite he or she being born in a foreign country and being educated at an American university (I'm sure), they were not hindered educationally by a professor who spoke what would be their second language. JMO

  • @drbayoms

You're right, because they probably did the same thing as I, which is placing more importance on the textbook than the instructor. They wanted to understand the subject for themselves, rather than regurgitate a professor's speech (or a fabricated PowerPoint presentation).

But then they change their teaching philosophy for selfish reasons. They want to use their own style over the textbook, or the class parallels the textbook because they don't know/remember the subject well enough.

  • @erikglimpse It's not hard to understand why paid proffesors would want to protect thier turf and stake a claim on future benefits.Human nature tends to choose prosperity where ever you can find it.Survival is a serious game and shapes all sorts of behaviour.

  • So should I sue the NBA because me, as an Indian, is not represented equally in their make-up? Where is the diversity in the NBA. I think my people are being exploited by exclusion.

  • *Omit: young

  • How about diversity of ideology? In that case, Ivy league schools are the least diverse institutions on the planet.

  • Tom Sowell is the man!!

  • Tom Sowell is the man!!

  • They always talk about "Diversity" in the student body but no one ever mentions that most the professors are alike.

  • Sowell / Williams 2012 Pass it on!

  • Most blacks are uneducated retards. Not this man. But the blacks don't like him. He tells too much truth, exposing the black lowliness.

  • @Moralvorstellung28 Your comments illustrates why people need to be judged as individuals.

  • Comment removed

  • @Moralvorstellung28 You're obviously uneducated for saying something so callous and all encompassing. You don't know most blacks and you assume that they are all alike which is not true. You've been fooled by god knows who that black people all think alike and that all blacks are "uneducated retards". You would be false and you're as foolish as you claim most blacks to be. I happen to be African American and I respect this man, but I have no respect for reckless generalizations of any kind.

  • @MrFerrariDaytona No, it's you feral monkeys who are uneducated. Besides, what does education actually mean in today's America? That a kid went to some college, any college and got taught by some liberal bleeding heart hippie "professor" who knows nothing of the real world, because he never left college himself and experienced the world outside of the campus? Colleges teach the great lie of diversity so they can continue to be funded by the government, and college is all about one thing,MONEY!!

  • @Moralvorstellung28

And most racially embittered young youth are small minded punks who overestimate their importance to society.

  • ahh ole' uncle tommy the same man who said homeless people are crazy and like/deserve to be homeless

  • Comment removed

  • @Moralvorstellung28 3 incomplete sentences is never enough

  • @balancedeath

    Really?... No seriously... Really?!

  • This man is as much an Uncle Tom as Obama is a conservative. From the year 1990 and moving forward . . . Being a Democrat OR a Republican is as productive as being a tomato at a lemonade stand.

  • who says that white supremacists ideology cannot inhabit black skin? clarence thomas and thomas sowell are both good examples of this

  • @89frisco

    freemarket = racism

  • hes a self hater just like clarence thomas house negros that hate themselves

  • @89frisco No! It is the racists who disparage his intelligence because they dislike a black man with a philosophy that articulately counters theirs.

    What a great mind!

  • @89frisco

No, he is simply a non-racist, he doesn't believe that men should be judged by the color of their skin. The only reason you hate White supremacy is because it is not your preferred brand of racism

  • Malcolm X would have eaten him alive in a debate.

  • @jayjasonbird

uhh, Malcolm X was street thug who converted to islam and read a dictionary.

He would have no business even in the room with an award winning professor of Economics.

  • @Onieracraft Wow you watch the movie. Fool you have no idea about who Malcom X was and the things he accomplished. So go educate yourself before you write a ignorant comment like this.

  • @jayjasonbird Try reading a book sometime instead of watching moving picture shows. You never know what might happen.

  • @Onieracraft Obviously you don't read books or understand sarcasm when I said " WOW YOU WATCH THE MOVIE" The foolish must be taught so here is something you can watch about a person you call a "THUG" Then maybe next time you wont speak with ignorance. MALCOLM X: OXFORD UNION DEBATE (December 3, 1964)

  • @Onieracraft

Nah, Thomas Sowell is an affirmative action case. You should see his SAT scores.

  • @drbayoms

For some reason, pretty much every liberal that comes on Thomas Sowell videos is an intellectual lightweight with no character that tosses about random slurs and accusations.

Sowell was born in 1930 and graduated from Harvard in 1958. Affirmative Action began in the 1960's. Now please go away and watch Jon Stewart, or whatever the heck you people do in your spare time.

  • @periechontology

As usual a temperamental dumbass conservative who accepts the Negros "who know their place". No liberal here by the way. Don't quite subscribe to the idea of using a fetus for milkshakes. I just know how to smoke missile and bible hugging Neo-cons who talk out of both sides of their neck, out of their cave.

  • @periechontology For all the intelligence you purport to have. I see you could not grasp what I was saying. In Conservative ideology no black person earns anything. Unless they know their place. Tongue and cheek. By the way how in the hell would I have Sowell's SAT score? Are you so stupid that you didn't realize what I meant? I enjoy trolling for hypocritical Right wing zombies.

All a man like Sowell could ever do for you, is cook you dinner and make you some coffee. "Mo coffee Boss?"

  • @drbayoms i don't think anyone knows what you're saying. my best understanding of your posts is that "C"onservatives are racists incapable of critical thought, and that because posters here cannot prove to your satisfaction that they are not racist, this leads you to derive some sort of self gratification at their own hypocrisy. "tongue and cheek."

  • @jayjasonbird malcolm x was a fucking retard

  • @Ilikenuman

I don't think that's fair. I do believe that anyone today who actually takes seriously what Malcolm X said is a retard, but Malcolm X was a product of his time. the reason King is seen as a hero is because it isn't easy to do what he did. Malcolm was not a hero, he was just a normal man without the moral courage to rise above the anger that had been placed inside of him by some quite sinister social circumstances that i'm going to assume neither of us have ever had to confront.

  • Thomas Sowell for President. Charlie is in over his head when he tries the Liberal Clap Trap on Dr. Sowell.

  • If you search Thomas Sowell on hulu you can see the whole interview. It actually gets pretty ugly. Charlie rose clearly gets irritated with Sowell. He accuses him of being a conspiracy theorist.

  • "Are you saying to me that all black people are alike, therefore you got to mix and match by race?"

I just had a motherfucking epiphany due to Thomas Sowell.

  • Prof. Sowell does a good job of explaining how leftist pandering often leads to more rather than less racism.

  • Positive discrimination gets you a President as shallow & ignorant as Obama. Positive discrimination gets you a "community organizer' for President.

  • Mr. Interviewer, LET DR. SOWELL TALK. So sick of these interruptions. <.<

  • I was expecting to hear the opinions of Dr. Sowell, instead I get Charlie Rose expressing the liberal interpretation of the "beginning of time"! Besides being brilliant, Dr. Sowell is a very, TOO nice, patient man!

Chaz770....you don't know conservatism if you don't know that Dr.SOWELL IS CONSERVATIVE! Check out his numerous articles at townhall.com

  • @neonaction nice rebuttal

  • too bad people disgree his beleifs.

  • Diversity of idea's is more valuable than diversity of colour. Diversity of colour is a shallow and toothless goal that only fools aim for.

  • @TheMindFarter How right!

  • Diversity of color lends itself to different experiences. Different experiences = different ideas. @TheMindFarter

  • @PakiPride51 ....right on, but thats the undercurrent of the resistance to diversity. That new voices or experiences will challenge the white male power structure.

  • Although I might be more moderate than Dr. Sowell, he is still a brillant guy. I love Dr. Sowell.

  • Charlie, the problem with your argument is this: affirmative action has nothing to do with promoting diversity. It exists to combat the modern problems of blacks/minorities imposed on them by actions of the past.

I personally think its reverse racism that doesnt do any good, and frankly is insulting to blacks in general, insinuating that they need help to achieve.

  • @VegasBilgeRat

if the policy is designed to combat the problems created by actions of the past then how could they insinuate that Blacks were not able to achieve?

Only assistance granted on an admittedly equal playing field would suggest this.

I'm not a fan of AA but for more nuanced reasons.

  • @Aphoresis According to the liberal progressive stance that AA stems from, Blacks can't compete with whites and are unable to achieve the norm, thus, they need a leg up.

I find that powerfully insulting and frankly it is a bullshit solution to a much larger multi-faceted problem.

  • Thomas Sowell should debate Cornel West on affirmative action. Dr. Sowell would wipe the floor with the Princeton pseudo-philosopher.

  • @FamilyGuyRocks89 It would be pointless, one guy would be teaching and the other performing.

  • @Califacience True enough. But I still think it would be entertaining to watch.

  • @FamilyGuyRocks89 I crave for such a debate.

  • @FamilyGuyRocks89 My God, that'd be must-see tv...

  • @FamilyGuyRocks89 I doubt Cornel welcomes discussions on contrary ideology. He most likely feels much more at home with the likes of Tavis Smiley fawning over his every word.Sowell is always a pleasure to listen to.I hear him on Dennis Pragers radio show every now and then.

  • @Pomiferous

You contradict your own point. I'm sure Cornell West has appeared on as many programs (television & radio) alike. That are as 'contrary" to his own ideology as this man has. You act as if this guy made the rounds on every liberal leaning television & radio show not named Charlie Rose. He has his niche audience just as West does. Neither are going to stray far beyond the comfort of like minded folks. So what exactly is your point, if any?

  • @drbayoms You must be quite left due to your propensity for projection.I do not recall making any mention of Mr. Sowell making rounds on liberal shows.I have seen Cornell and Tavis more or less spooning while they dissed Justice Thomas after his book release. There was a third member who I do not recall on the program also. All three of them were more or less in lock step.Smiley and Moyers both sort of typify the PBS velvet touch for what christian liberals should sound like it seems to me.

  • @Pomiferous

If you are attempting to paint me as a lefty beatnik because I know that Clarence Thomas is a disgusting, hypocritical low-life, you're wrong. I am nowhere close to being a liberal. And without that title I still can proudly call Thomas out for the Anti-American fascist he is. My dislike for someone who sits on the Supreme Court, or holds the title of Commander in Chief does not necessarily make me a lefty, righty or a bigot. At least that's what conservatives tell me.

  • @drbayoms I gather you see well reasoned contempt as a virtue to some degree then.Things are getting all twisted these days for sure. Some tea partiers are acting like pissed off lefties. While liberals due a turn around and call for respect for the office of the president and support of american military intervention.Other than some sort of Gabby Giffords update.I have no clue what will be next on the PC menue.

  • @drbayoms

Please produce a video of Cornel West being interviewed by a Right Winger

  • @periechontology

Thanks for the "bite". But I was always told that there is NO SUCH thing as a Right Wing interviewer, mostly by Right Wingers?

  • @FamilyGuyRocks89 sowell vs west would be like mike tyson vs steve urkel

  • Can anyone tell me how "Economics and Politics of Race", "Ethnic America", "Race and Cultures", "Migrations and Culture", and "Conquest and Culture" are any different from one another? Which one is better?

  • I love Thomas sowell's books. I was wondering which book I should get: Race and Cultures, Ethnic America or Economics and Politics of Race. How are these books different and which one should I get?

  • @whitesox889 A must read by Sowell is :A Citizens guide to the Economy.

  • LOL

    "Because ... DIVERSITY!"

  • This man is my hero!

  • I know a guy who tried to get into fairly prestigious UCLA, but was rejected because while his academic scores were excellent, his "diversity" didn't make the grade.

He went to far less prestigious CSU Northridge, graduated with top grades, found a job, worked very hard in it, became very successful, and now makes a lot more than those "diversity" bean counters.

  • Bravo Thomas!

I have a lot of respect for the way he cuts through verbal BS.

And Charlie Rose, when he talks about "come from Nevada", "come from Sri Lanka", "an Asian," "an African-American," "people who come from 5th avenue" etc. - sounds like he is describing a zoo.

    (cont.)

  • I am sure zoos compete with each other on how many different species from all over the world they have. But is a university a zoo?

Why is this a healthy factor? What does "different kinds of experiences" really mean? Who judges these experiences? Who determines whether they are different or the same?

    (cont.)

  • The more I think about it, the more I come to conclusion that "diversity" is a plaything of arrogant people, who do think of themselves as human and of potential students as different species of animals who they are to classify and sort and make sure all species (as defined by them) are represented.

  • The vast gap in intellect between Thomas Sowell, and whoever this guy is, is impossible to understate. The chasm is that large.

I think diversity, as it has come to be defined in pop culture, negates the fact that diversity can come from any given group. Not all Whites are the same, just like not all blacks are the same. The question then becomes, how do you really differentiate between INDIVIDUALS, regardless of class, background, or race. Is that not TRULY diverse?

  • Wow, I mean wow.I've thought that pc, or diversity, etc are one word answers to complex questions meant to shut down debate. Thought policing, in other words.
