Takes me back to the good times in the early nineties when coldcut would play this track on their show, solid steel on kiss fm. They were the best times.
When this music came out I was glad music could be about exploring sound and possibilities of emotions, and not just conveying trite expressions or dumb things people say that make you squirm.
Such a nice track : ) Aphex Twin is really a good producer, some old school electronica. My favorite track with him is " Stone in focus " . However much of his tracks are really good. If you want to listen to some good electronic music from some really good producers you can check my page and have a listen , if you feel like it : )
This makes my chest feel extremely empty, I just cry at this song and don't know why, it's a lingering feeling of dread and happiness at the same time, this is truly ecstasy in musical form.
This is by far my most favorite song ever. No matter when or where, I always feel completely at ease when I hear it. It even makes me doze off when I have trouble falling asleep. This song is pure magic in all of its simplicity. Beautiful.
@Darthshepius Just as saying trollish things doesn't make you look tough, it makes you look like a troll.
I was merely expressing how the song made me feel, nothing deep or special about it that, just some silly thoughts that came to mind while listening.
And let's not fight and just enjoy the music, after all I like Aphex Twin, you most likely like Aphex Twin if you're here, so why pester people for enjoying the music?
This song makes me think of things which have haunted man from its very beginning. The terrifying nature of existence.... The most serene forrests and landscapes... and the isolation of being the first human to be alive...A world seemingly full of things just like you... but completely different.....Oh, shit did i just off on a stoner rant? My bad. But seriously, this song is fucked up in the most beautiful way possible.
@XxxHelicesxxX You are probably the only one on this comment board with decent taste in music, you see? All the other users here listen to fucking Deadmau5, Daft Punk and watch piece of shit anime shows.
@FenixiaDuo It's self explainatory, anyone who likes Daft Punk is physically capable of listening to this, a bit of an outcast, original and underground part of music; is MUCH different from Daft Punk, if someone just listens to this and at the same time puts their ears to Daft Punk. It's fucking amazing how Humans can be this dumb; they get offered the most original, stable and complex types of GOOD music, and then they listen to Daft Punk and compare it, too. And Death Note? FUCK.
@TheClarenceter I think Daft Punk is very original. There wouldn't be the types of Techno, Dance, or Electronica music of today without Daft Punk's influence. Although, Im not taking anything away from Aphex Twin, the stuff that he makes is some of the most original things, but I wouldn't necessarily call it Complex music. It's fairly minimalist, but that's the best thing about it.
@FenixiaDuo Ambient is usually minimalist, ALOT of the WORKS of Aphex Twin is complex, as a musical genre it's not, remember that minimalist music is not too normal to NOT be referred to as complex music, rather not as a genre, but why and how it is like that, heard of La Monte Young, Steve Reich and William Basinski? They all make minimalist music, and it's far from "normal" music. Complex in the GENRE includes bands and musicians like Sun City Girls, Captain Beefheart etc.
@TheClarenceter I would think a complex ambient group would be something like Boards of Canada, where their use of nostalgic type soundscapes and various samples makes so many different layers of sound. Or even Autechre where you have no idea how they make those sounds (even though simply warping tracks can make those sounds). I just find minimalist music to be beautiful, not 'complex'. for complexity in song-writing, I turn to Post-Rock groups like Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
@FenixiaDuo Yes, but GY!BE is rather much more of already simple minimalist musical pieces put together so avidly and in such large numbers that it finally leads them to complexity in the genre itself. Autechre and Boards of Canada is mainly complex ambience, if you choose to address it that way.
@TheClarenceter Well it seems we've come to an agreement then :) At least we have love of the same type of music. I actually write stuff like GY!BE and The Album Leaf
@FenixiaDuo So, people who act out these acts (listening to Daft Punk and the latter of shit), will never actually get the point to music made with effort.
@TheClarenceter I enjoy listening to Daft Punk, see. The one's who doesn't get music are the ones who can't seem to get into their heads that music is an artform. And as such, it's conceived differently by the listeners. You don't think Daft Punk puts effort into their music? Everyone has their own tastes, what makes a true music lover is being able to look at multiple yet very different types of music and still manage to find some sort of joy in them. Oh, and don't get me wrong. I love APX.
@Macz338 APX???? Most AFX fans do not choose to like things such as Daft Punk, simply because we do not want to down-grade ourselves to a less intelligent group of people. Ignorance isn't the key thing here. I'm sure many of us have gone through there music that requires no thinking or thought what-so ever.
@Macz338 What the hell is APX? I dearly hope you're not trying to say AFX, because AFX is not a nick of "Aphex Twin", two completely different names for the same artist, just like Bradley Strider and Polygon Window. Daft Punk is nowhere near Aphex Twin, it is a humongous turd of mainstream bollocks. Just like 90% of those who "listen" to Aphex Twin these days, you are a normal little douchebag that believes you can achieve classifications and titles or personas out of nowhere.
@TheClarenceter I believe I speak decent English, not that that is the topic of this discussion. I never compared the two, I simply said that I don't believe that Daft Punk in itself is bad music. You're the one bring it up. For that matter, I don't listen to Aphex Twin to achieve anything but the sheer pleasure of listening to good music. That you're pretentious not to believe that your choice in music is in fact the right one and that the rest are wrong has nothing to do with me.
@Macz338 Sheer pleasure is the right thing to attend to in music, if you are rather willing to put feelings into music, the mind is another way of getting the "pleasure" as you describe it; from music, my REAL point on here is that Aphex Twin is a far more advanced artist in music that Daft Punk, Daft Punk may have had some traces of it, but they are long gone due to exploitation and the mainstream. If you may think that Aphex Twin is too original and "pleasuring" in his own genre....
@TheClarenceter I am constantly looking for good music myself and I'm already an avid fan of Boards of Canada. I never said Daft Punk are anywhere near as good as Aphex Twin for that matter, just that I don't view them as shitty artists. Nor can they be compared, Aphex Twin creates a unique atmosphere within his music whereas Daft Punk is mostly dance music and the like.
@Macz338 Music usually starts with the work of a genius, it continues with an original listener, it then continues by the insecure ones who choose to copy everything they do and after that even more inferior people start doing the same fucking bullshit. Your English sucks, by the way; just because you are Danish.
a few years ago, i was watching movies on sundance and manic came on, and my jaw dropped when this track played in the beginning. it was an infinite win.
@tonyttt31 nah it was a digital animation, I think it was white boxes with ripples undulating through them. It was perfect for this tune - it would have passed off as minimalist art!
wow, apparently this buy below me, solidfreak123, wants to know what err noises play when u turn the power off in the half-life mod... wtf does that have to do with this song?
@XxxHelicesxxX Well Z Twig IS the song nekonuzze was talking about. Someone talked about how it would fit in a Disney movie, then it kinda "went around". But I highly doubt any tracks from Selected Ambient Works Volume II or any other song from Mr. Aphex Twin's albums would ever appear in any Disney movie or cartoon. Ever. Wouldn't really fit.
@ShadicoTheHedgehog Oh my god. I played afriad of monsters (scarier than nightmare house 0_o) and i was watching how to survive nuclkear fallout or somthing, i heard this song, deja vu.
@unionofonion It's quite funny considering how you know absolutely nothing about the guy. Furthermore, it was a response to a popular Youtube fad in which people would reply to a song with: "I had sex to this song." Not actually being a statement in itself, rather a parody of all the dickheads posting comments like that. Also, what's the point in getting all hostile? We're all here to enjoy some great music, if you wish to spark arguments, or just act like I dick then I suggest you go outside.
@Macz338 People who make parodies of parodies, mostly boring internet memes and all of the human get together shit should not actually listen to this.
What is it with this song? It's so serene and tranquil yet simultaneously, lonely and desolate. It makes me crave company.
