I never missed an episode and she was the reason why. Major Houlihan was my role model and my inspiration. She was professional, respected (especially in the later episodes), and needed. And she was beautiful, but in down to earth way. She looked like a real woman, not a fashion model just off the runway. In short, she was everything I wanted as a teenager to be but felt I wasn`t. That was twenty odd years ago, but her influence is with me to this day.

@sumwhatdim That's only part of who Margaret was. She had her flings, yes, but after Frank and her failed marriage to Donald Penobscott, the writers straightened Margaret out very much. She became a lot more self-reliant, stronger, and demanded the respect she was due as a woman, a soldier, and a head nurse. If I could be half the woman Margaret was, I'd count myself as lucky.

Hey good point, it seemed as the show wore on and Margaret was past Frank and Donald she gravitated quite nicely with Hawkeye and B.J.,

and she was like the third wheel. Remember she always knew Hawkeye was the best, heck she wanted him to remove her appendix! Another great episode.
