@hillerm If you are having the same op as me then honestly you have nothing to worry about. you will be a bit sore around the surgary site foe a couple of weeks then you will be back to normal.
I'm not having anything yet. I have Crohn's Colitis. I started out by taking Asacol, but upgraded to Imuran not long after. Next flare up and I'll probably have to upgrade to Humira. After that, its surgery. Hopefully that will be several years away.
My situation isn't urgent; I'm just having one of those days where I suddenly remember I have an uncurable disease.
Thanks for sharing this!! I wish my surgery could've been done laproscopically!! They cut me right down the belly, opened me up, went under the muscle. They removed part of my terminal ileum, part of my colon, my appendix and part of my large I believe. I can't always remember what they did! lol. i have a temp ileostomy. I'm still not fully recovered, and it's the worse recovery ever! But so far well worth it. No more pain and I can eat what i couldn't before! I recommend the surgery...
Hiya, thank you for doing this video - I too am considering this surgery and finding it difficult to weigh up the risk.
I don't believe I am currently suffering as much pain as you were before your surgery (Its mostly just discomfort) and am a bit concerned that it is too soon....but the consultant as suggested it and says I am just used to the Crohn's discomfort. (Do you think surgery would be worthwhile as I am only experiencing discomfort daily and not actual pain?)
@JaimeeLauren Hmm tough one, mine started out like that and over a period of a year got a lot worse. Depends if you have exhausted all the pharmaceutical options. for me nothing worked plus after taking years of drugs i wanted something more physical and permanent done. I would say its not too soon if thats what the Doctor says, they would never operate if it wasn't for the best.
You dont need to be in agonising pain to need surgery if i had mine done when it was first suggested i would have saved myself the worst years of my life.
This is only advice based on personal experience, its different for everyone say trust your Dr.
@PMAN46 Nope thank god, just the usual fast no food after midnight the night before. Yeah i lost a lot of weight after the surgery, only because i was hardly eating. so after i was feeling a bit better (about a week) the doctors put me on ensure 3x daily as well as normal meals. i put on the lost weight in no time.
This is brilliant!! You weren't in hospital very long either.
I had my first crohns surgery almost three weeks ago, and you're right, it's well worth it! I'm also making a video following my progress, I'll let you know when it's up!
Yeah i feel the best i have in years and yeah i do still have D but loperamide is enough to keep it in check while everything settles down. You will be fine and it is 100% worth it wish i did it years ago any more questions dont hesitate to ask.
About to face the same surgery and feel reassured by yiour experience, how are you now and also sorry to ask do you experience diarrhoea as I have read that this might happen for a while after surgery? Good luck
I just got my surgery Friday. I cant wait to start eating..

Did you take like bowl cleanout medicine before the surgery and any nutrition therapy for being underweight?
