Maybe Blaine was lucky with the placing of the card cut, for example, decks in a known order and the card is named then cut. He looks to see what card is above it and maybe he'd have said something like, "now take 3 cards away from the cut" if the 3 of hearts was 3 cards down from the cut.

DAVID BLAINE IS CRAP. his magic is shit and this, i have been doing magic for like such long time and i can see through almomst every card trick. the solutions are all as mentioned by people here. svengali, self working, estimate etc. this can be done using different methods and if it was derren brown, it would not be killer, but destruction cos he is too pro. if it was derren brown, can use psychological force and use svengali. juz an example. david blaine sucks.

The trick is done like this, The spectator names a card.. the deck is set up in order ace to king in clubs, diamonds, hearts then spades and he knows that 3 of hearts is in about the middle of the deck so when he puts his head down he looks at the card and then he'd say something like go down 6 cards or whatever but in this case he cut perfectly..

@McDaidUSA the deck is stacked, its stacked so when he looks at ythe bottom card of the top half of the deck, he uses simple math and the suite pattern to know what the top card on the bottom half of the deck is, if you notice he leans over after the deck is cut to see what the bottom card is, this is one of the easiest tricks to learn

@mreass22 That doesn't explain how the 3 of hearts was the first card to be flipped over after the deck was cut. We all understand there is card counting being done, but for him to say "pick any card, then cut the deck in half" and have your card be the next card to be flipped over... that's the trick. Explain that part to me if you can.

The cards are in an order that Blaine has memorized. He knows your card is somewhere near the middle. You cut the deck and he looks at the card on the underside of where you made the cut. He lucked out that it was the next card but would have an appropriate command if he needed you to move a few cards in one direction or another.

Believe me, when Blaine's head was blocking the camera, NOTHING HAPPENED. I was holding the deck THE WHOLE TIME--and watching him like a hawk! I didn't even know his head blocked the camera until I saw the video... —Pogue

Pretty sure this is a variation on three trick decks that Blaine probably has custom made: an instanto deck, a stripper deck and an invisible deck. The method of the actual trick is beyond me though.
