@vecuccio You can find her name - and the geohack location of this - on Wikipedia's "List of Rail Accidents (1990 - 1999), the Google Earth coordinates are 41.7954, -87.994
I remember it being shown on A&E 's Investigative Reports w/ Bill Kurtis about accidents on train tracks. I was never so devastated. Ofcourse the cut away before impact on TV. I had no idea they wouldn't here. I never have like crossing train tracks. Jet Magazine would have pictures of things that would happen you might not see in another publication. One memory I had is a photo in Jet of a man cut in two by a train because he didn't make it across the track and out its way in time ! terrible.
I remember it being shown on A&E 's Investigative Reports w/ Bill Kurtis about accidents on train tracks. I was never so devastated ! Ofcourse, they cut away before you saw actual impact, but you knew she got hit. A conductor said they can't stop the train in time while it is in motion for something or someone that happens to cross the tracks. So you can imagine how awful their job can be for them when something like that happens.

Sometimes just a little accident, I read that it was just in the divorce proceedings, and therefore probably not oblivious to the train when the train had already begun to perceive the meter from her .....
@PanAm812 What's the problem. She's stupid. It's a train. Stupid people and trains don't mix. You wanna walk in front of one, that's up to you, but it's a dumbass move.
the only reason they haven't blocked this video is because of the blurryness of this video. it's sad to see someone's life get taken away in a split second and that it was caught on camera.
this video is so graphic...how a human life is gone in a split second...and her boddy flown through the air like a rag doll...this is one of the most horrifingly disturbing videos i have ever seen...im supprised its on youtube
I'm thinking she had a terrible lack of judgement and on top of the the man to her left might have impaired her complete View and speed of the Train? IDK thats what i think were possible reasons she was hit! Because the average person does not run across the tracks with speeding trains heading there way, Cars and trucks Etc.. may try to beat trains but that lady Damn she Loca I'm assuming she was criticlly injured or most likely Killed ? Does any one know her fate?
@joseg2143 Ya i kinda thought that by the Impact her body took fromtr train not to mention her body was Contourted..... Guess iI was just holding out hope for thaT Excuse me for saying But That dumb Broad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@gregory462 Yes, sadly the woman was killed. I remember this incident well. I was in high school when it happened, but I have been a train buff all my life.
i remember my dad showing me this video as a kid. think they used it as a training video. lady was meting with her lawyer to get a divorce from her husband.. if my memory serves correctly.
Here in Plano TX they have banned the use of train horns at grade crossings. Even though trains don't come through here at 60 Mph, somebody is going to get killed because of this, very soon.
This is very sad, it can happen to everyone, a moment where your mind isn't really paying attention to your surroundings. Hope her soul is in a safe place.
yes, if only it had a 110db horn or something to alert its passing.... ya can't fix stupid... its a damn shame, but when crossing ANY path of a ANY vehicle, the fault is yours if you run in front of a speeding {anything}... i mean if your sight is blocked, just run thru blindly...
@amp3cx10000a7jp she was no lawyer the guy with her was a lawyer and she thought the bell was from the train sitting still at the station, whenn she approached the tracks the lawyer blocked her vision so she did not see the train until a split second before it hit her
@rev0luti0n2012 i'm guessing she had no idea of the destructive side of trains....or of the existence of trains, for that matter. I guess there's no trains in the kitchen, huh? :P
Is that train actually blowing its horn when its going through or is that just a sound effect??? There's little room for excuse if the train was sounding its horn unless the woman was deaf.
@kmillard I'm pretty sure that's the horn. She had to have had hearing ability considering how both her and the lawyer were a) dumb enough to think it was a good idea, and b) they had that "oh shit" moment right around the same time because they were looking right at the ground and not paying attention.
This was in 1991 at the Fairview crossing in Downers Grove Illinois. I watched this happen. The express train would always come through the middle of the stopped train. We have had more pedestrian hit in Downers Grove in the past 20 years then any other stop on the Metra.
How could have her estate even attempted to bring a wrongful death suit against the railroad??? IT'S HER FAULT SHE GOT HIT!!!!!! I don't feel sorry for anyone that get's hit by a train! It's one of the easiest things in the world to stay away from!
What are these people thinking?! Did they not hear the BELLS?! The HORN?! Seriously people are your lives worth that low that you have to run out in front of a moving train?! It's this kinda stuff that's hard for me to feel sorry for them because they obviously don't care. The only people I feel sorry for is the train crew and that camera man who witness that horrific event. They've ignored all safety equipment there to PROTECT them... Where I live they want to have no horn zones..how sad...
@MoeJae86 The rail crossings within city limits at our county seat actually HAVE no horn zones! Since our county is a major railroad hub for the Mid-Atlantic region, you can imagine how many car vs. train/pedestrian vs. train calls the fire departments in our county respond to every year! When the hell are people ever going to learn that if you tie with a train, you are going to LOSE?
And I agree, those witnesses and train crew didn't deserve to be put through that kind of hell.
notice how the lawyer's body probably was directly in the line of sight between the woman and the train, maybe that's why she didn't see it coming. something like that happened to one of my friends with a car, but he's fine now.
@RandomCoked Yeah, it's unfortunate to hear so often of Metra trains striking people or cars around here. At least oncw a month, an incident like this happens. Now they require all trains approaching grade crossings to do multiple horn blasts regardless of time of day, to many people's disappointments, but I think that is a good way of preventing collisions like this.
@RandomCoked There is another train stopped there, obviouly both tought that the rail cross warnings were because of the stopped train. Suddenly the other one comes behind it at full speed giving the lawyer time to stop but since she experience that double blockage in her line of sight ...
@Tc4oregon This is a Metra EMD E9 engine # . Metra (METropolitan RAil) is a regional, Chicago-to-suburbs commuter line. I believe this was in Downers Grove, just south of Chicago.
@joseg2143 I would consider Downers Grove WEST of Chicago, not south. Suburbs like Park Forest, Lansing, and University Park would be south of Chicago.
Why are trains even allowed to high ball through passenger station is beyond me. They should have speed limits there
