I did want to record using a baby grand but, this was when I first started recording my own music and was a little green. This was recorded in one take with him playing the keys while I sang and nothing was changed. This song has ALWAYS been close to my heart and I wanted to put my own style in it. @BURNTicePRODUCTIONS the producers I admire usually say that a fresh performance, getting the spontaneous feeling across, matters more than technical blemishes. You and your cuz have that here! ! When you can get some live ambience around your voice, it will put frosting on the cake. If you guys want something more affordable than a baby grand (holy smokes ! ) check out the Nord Electro 3. You might find one for about $1900 to $2200...maybe cheaper used. Has GREAT piano and organ sounds.

I'm so impressed by this original version, not copying johnny cash or roy acuff. Both your voice as an instrument, and the way you use it are so very soulful ! Did you play the keyboard part yourself?

Please consider re-recording this with ambient room sound on a microphone with acoustic piano... your voice (& the song ) is so soulful that it deserves a more rich, rootsy, real timbre in the accompaniment.
