You're absolutely right - pilot is the key word. The actors we cast for the pilot (friends) turned out to be much better than the cast for the final piece...But I was only DoP.
Ha I posted the first comment almost a year ago, since which I've brought a FX several months ago and I personannly find the 24f brilliant, if your going to edit and distribute in 24P then it's hardly worth it. The thing that makes a good video look like film is setting the correct exposure and Gamma curve more than anything, and DoF and general framing, in my oppinion. unless you have a progressive TV and DVD player might aswell stay away from progresive alltogether.
i like it. i love the EXTERMLY smooth pans when they are walking down the stairs and all the shots outside. VERY VERY VERY well done. I love the girl walking and the smooth shooting of here. But i do see a shadow of the camera when she walks in. i was like HEY there is the FX1!!!
Guys, must say thats brilliant! It's so nice watching other peoples IndyFilms for a change. Love everything, some really creative shots/cuts there. Really like the tracking steadycam shot, nicely done.
I'm going HD in August, not sure wheter to opt for FX1 or Z1?
Hope the movie goes into full production! let us know how it's going, what other stuff do you guys do? E-mail me simon@slsvideoproductions.com
I would like to know too? Also how do you get the picture to capture so much. So many films short, feature, fan films etc. even when prosumer dv is used seems like everything is so small. I don't know there is just a difference. Also how much did it cost to make?
Please can you explain further "How do you get the picture to capture so much"?. If you mean the wide-angled nature of the photography, then I used the standard lens on the FX-1 at the time. Since, I have used a Z1 with it's Sony made Wide Angle lens. Mainly recently however, I have been using a Z1, on a RedRock with Canon FD lenses. It's works lovely. My last film, was new ground - I wrote it and directed - with a separate DoP. It went really well. Opened up the whole process very wide.
That's pretty much what I meant, because I have an HV20 and I've seen videos where the image captures so much with the lens and I wanted to know how you did it.
Very well filmed, I'm thinking of buying a dolly, any specific models you recommend? or does the quality not really differ too drastically?...

All this talk of cameras is very interesting but does anybody understand what the film is about? I was left slightly confused.

what lense did you use standard?

For this pilot, and the final graduation piece, I used the FX-1s standard lens.

I think you should get the canon hd x1, it is the best quality and used by most tv networks.
