Who would have known that Jones was completely gun shy. If Roy had fired something back he could have taken Joe easily but he was literally a statue...a mere shadow of his former self.
I heard a rumour that he might be fighting Antonio Tarver next, despite the letter he received from Glen Johnson that can be viewed on Dwyers site GamblersAdvisory[dot]com!
I think Calzaghe will school Dawson, Lacy style. He should really have a British showdown with Froch as his last fight. Whichever fight he takes, he should destroy the unbeaten prospect, will make his status much better.
Many see Froch as unproven though. He hasn't been in with anybody of world class calibre. To add to that, Froch can't offer enough ££ for the fight to happen, + the purse won't be very large- OK, it's the fight the British want to see, but outside of the UK, ie US, nobody cares less. PPV=larger purse, so unless the price is right, I can't see it happening
I had the same prediction as you. The only problem was Roy Jones and the impact of age on his performanc. Roy is an atheltic boxer who needs to be in atheltic prime to be dangerous. Your prediction of a prime RJJ would be perfect, unfortunately after round 3 it was clear Roy have not power, could not keep JC off with the jab or use his leg speed to run. He just ended up a punch bag. If this fight happened 6-8 years earlier your prediction would have been spot on.
Roy Jones Jr has always been an over-hyped yanky by the yanks. Hopkins had the flu when Roy fought him, and Toney was have surgery on an injured knee when they fought.
Roy= Fraud of boxing, and the rest of his fights were against paper-champions. And ruiz is the crappiest heavy-weight I've ever seen. If he can't hold you, he loses.
u cant roll back time when your nearly 40 unless you fight a smart fight like hopkins hopkins isnt a gd fighter e just knos how to counter on your weak points but joe has ended roy jones u were wrong but i was shocked at this prediction anyways give us your personal opinion on manny vs dela hoya!!!
I know noone forced me to bet, but how wrong was I. It was 50/50, depending on which Roy Jones turned up. If was the jones in his prime Joe had no chance, i thought he might roll the years back one last time....
cal was tha younger man in that ring saturday night...that was tha difference...rjj wasnt physically able to match cals speed and it showed...had rjj and cal fought in their primes there should be no dispute that he would have turned cal into a bloody mess and knocked him out.
what a farcical video , if you couldnt have seen this coming then you might aswell give up predicting , in all honesty your hardly gaining any views anyway , let it go dog its over
jones at one time was an incredible fighter. fast as hell, power, never liked to get hit amazingly talented. unfortunately, those days are gone. only thing roy should ponder re. his future in the ring is to not do it anymore. all these haters bashing him and the US need to realize roy isn't anywhere close skill wise to what he was. not saying anything negative about calzaghe. would he have beaten jones in his prime we'll never know. he didn't fight a jones anywhere near his prime
And the logic that Roy saying he planned on moving up to heavyweight, therefore we need to bet Roy, is absolutely ludacris. I'm sorry, not bashing the guy, but he didn't make much sense in this one. I had posted before the fight that none of the logic he used made any sense whatsoever. Going off what a fighter says pre-game, talking about power when Calzaghe has NEVER been knocked out period, and overlooking a fighter's age is a huge mistake when betting a fight. Sorry to bash you but it's true.
Let's not get nasty. Before the fight I had already said this. Number one, as far as betting fighting goes, never bet on a fighter who is past is prime, especially against a young fighter (this is a given). Number two, while Dwayer may be right sometimes, you cannot say Roy Jones has too much power, but in the same sentence say that he thinks it will go the distance. If it was going to go the distance, everyone knew it would be Calzaghe taking this thing because he would throw way more punches.
glen johnson is a good fighter but when he knocked out jones I knew jones was shot. I won't bash you as you are very good at these predictions, but jones was never going to win this.
Haha, I love all this dumb bashing. Lets be honest in 95% of fights anyone COULD win and Jones showed that in the 1st with the knockdown but Joe's still numero uno I'm afraid. But people have to realise this guy knows what hes talking about hes not just some bandwagon fan like most of us.
Anyone who bashes dwyer is foolish to do so. He said Calzaghe was a great fighter, but he thought Roy Jones had the tools to beat him, and gave good reasons for thinking so. He was wrong, no one is perfect. British fans need to stop being so defensive every time someone picks against Calzaghe--he's great, but he is human and can be beaten, just like every other fighter in history.
OH dear ! Thats boxing for you, I wont mock you but I am sure that you are not basing your prediction on anything other than objective reasons. But hey JOE did it again. IN america you guys will stop inviting him over or coming over here for that matter ,I am just playing of course.
Calzaghe is such a great fighter. I know Jones is 39 but Calzaghe is 36 and a lot of people seem to forget that he is old too. Calzaghe looked as good as ever last night. Congratulations and have a happy retirement (if he does!)
you said have a go if you were wrong and you were .when ever calzaghe is underestimated by people like you he pulls through you can say what you want about calzaghe but you cannot question his heart WARRIOR
Whoever posted this blog is a clown. I respect Jones but there was no way he could beat Calzaghe, not even in his prime and certainly not when he is 39 yrs old. Americans say Jones is a legend but Calzaghe is an even bigger legend and will go down in the history books as one of the greatest ever.
Joe- has the flair of a surgeon and he stop Roy at every angle during this operation to retain his title, he will not be defeated until another young strong fighter comes along in 10 years from now.
Most of what he said he said is true: Roy's chin, Calzaghe not having the power to stop him, Roy's power advantage.
He just forgot about Calzaghe's strategic savvy. He figured out that Roy hates to be crowded, so he stayed in his face for the whole fight. Roy's long-distance accuracy was nullified.
He has a good record of predicting fights. Stop being assholes towards him and make your own YouTube channels. A lot of you are scared to put your face on YouTube. Yes, I had predicted Calzaghe too, but there is such a thing as a sore winner.
Bahahahaha. Momma, who ever got hurt by a slap? *C'mon, we deserve a gloat, because "He cant Hurt Roy is all the BS we have been hearing for the last umpteen months*
Nah, Jones fan here, hes still a legend and a true champ, showed his Heart again too (British here), but why is that you Yanks have such a hard time losing? No one wins em all....Its how you come back that counts.
hahaha your stupid dwyer bwahaha wrong prediction asshole! and your also gonna be wrong also on your prediction of pacquiao delahoya!!! you said delahoya will tko pacquiao....this one your also wrong damnblackass!!!!!!! what can you say dwyer? your a nuthugger of jones and delahoya
You can't always be right Dwyer! What a masterclass from Calzaghe. Very entertaining fight fought in the right spirit. It should have been stopped on cuts before the finish though...
i have been very confident that calzaghe will win this fight... until i saw the bookies for the past 2 days. looks like heavy money is going on jones specially at fight night.. most of the money seems to be on Jones by KO.
i have my money on calzaghe though. good luck peeps.
I do have an idea what I'm talking about. Stay-at-home Joe stayed in Europe and waited NINE years to fight Lacy and Kessler. HELLO? That was 2 years ago and now he is a legend? Haha. Why would Roy want Joe? Why would Mayweather have wanted Hatton? It's the other way - if you want the best then you go to the best.
roy wanted the fight but becuase joe was being promoted by frank warren he didnt want calzaghe to take a risk because if he lost joe's rating as a boxer might of went down do your research
Roy in his prime would destroy Joe 365 days a year. Joe beating Roy now will prove what Tarver did and what Glen Johnson did. Hopefully Roy can roll back the years.
Dwyer knows his boxing, I think every single one of his predictions has been right! I will pray to the Lord, Jesus Christ, that Roy Jones Jr. wins this fight. God Bless America & McCain.
And Trinidad was washed up and small. Jones should have took his head off in the first round. Joe Calzaghe doesn't need the "power" to knock out jones. This will be a boxing match. Joe is much younger, in much better shape and has to win this match. Roy Jones is taking the fight for money. If you don't believe it will be a stopage why focus so much on power? You are exactly right, it won't be. Going off of what Jones says pre-fight is pretty ludacris imo. Put your money on Joe.
I agree with the below poster. Power does not decide this fight when the man is old. People keep naming the list of opponents jones has fought. Do you know how long ago that was? Do you know how past his prime he is now? If you even watched the end of the fight hopkins/pavlik you will see 5 fights listed (old fighters upsetting new upcoming stars). This is the exception rather than the rule. It IS rare and it WAS a big deal when hopkins schooled pavlik. Never go with a fighter past his prime.
Calzaghe has an absolutely granite chin -it's oftern overlooked, but probably his single best attribute. Furthermore he applies constant pressure and won't let Jones set and throw big punches. Jones has fought better fighters but none that fight like Calzaghe.
dwyer70905 - you are clueless. Who has the most power is a silly way to gauge the outcome of this fight. Very silly in fact. Calzaghe has had no real punching power since he passed 30. His boxing skills and adaptability are second to none however and he will outbox Jones Jr from round 3/4 onwards and take a points win.
A couple of things that might favour Joe. First, the Hopkins match could be seen as the perfect "warm up" fight for this fight; secondly, if this is indeed Joe's last fight, then he might not favour his fragile hands and really - towards the end of the fight - start hitting harder than usual.
You can't really call it a renaissance. He beat boxers who no ones ever heard of. Then he won a fight against a blown up Trainidad who hadn't boxed processionally for 3 years. He floored Tito twice, but never seemed to hurt him. Calzaghe is easily bigger, faster and stronger than Traindad. He also has a much higher work rate than Jones. Jones is going to really struggle to win a round in this fight I feel. Calzaghe by decision or late KO.
I respect the under dog predictions you have made recently, Hopkins and Margarito, but i feel you've got this one wrong. You explained how Hopkins and Margarito were going to win, but on a power advantage? Maybe if you could explain how Jones is going to out box Calzaghe, which is what he going to have to do.
That's ignorant. Calzaghe has never backed down against anyone. It's true Pavlik wanted to fight him, but Calzaghe wanted the bigger and harder fight with Jones and everybody thought he took the easier route until Hopkins totally dominated Pavlik and all of a sudden Pavlik has gone from 'prime 26 year old gifted fighter that will dominate Calzaghe' to 'young hyped up boxer exposed'. It's true he should have gone to USA earlier, but Calzaghe is so underrated it's untrue.
Trust me, Calzaghe will want to go out in style. Check out the public training sessions, I haven't seen Calzaghe hit the pads this hard for some years now. He usually worries about his hand injuries from the past. It looks like he means business against Jones. Check out the FightHype channel on YouTube for those videos. No disrespect Dwyer, you know I like you, but I cannot see Jones pulling this one off. You really need to see those videos! Have a nice day my friend.
wutz up john,i c wut u r sayin, but pads dnt hit back,n there's not a boxer out there who cnt hit pads hard..i respect every1 opinion on da fight,so dnt take this as disrespect, take it as respectfully disagreeing w/1another..all we have 2 do is check the records of da fighters RJ,JC,n others,n c that RJ has fought many more top fighters,n champions than JC and any other fighter n his era.RJ had 6,or 7 belts at once..y cnt u c RJ pulling it off? if 85% of da ol RJ sho up JC gets Exsposed..nov.8
Hey, I like to hear all sides of the story, but what I am trying to say is, Jones is no where near his prime where he looked invincible. Calzaghe is just past his prime. I know he hasn't fought the best names but that is because he didn't get the chances really. I also understand pads don't hit back, but what I am trying to say is, usually Joe hits them lightly just as he usually hits lightly in the ring but makes up with speed. He might take hard punching in to the fight. Anyone can win tbh :x
Dwyer, Jones is unlikely to take Calzaghe out, right? On effective punching alone, he might do better than Calzaghe and Calzaghe doesn't have the power to KO Jones, but he has the speed, angles, footwork and extremely high workrate to tire Jones out and win by 2-3rounds, no? Jones doesn't have Hopkins' defence/ring generalship, and he doesn't have the reflexes to avoid Calzaghe's flurries either...Calzaghe will be on top of him with no rest all night! Thanks!
Jones Does not have the Workrate to beat Joe Calzaghe..THe Glenn Johnson Fight comes to mind of course the Tarver Fights as well.I dont see it happenning but We Shall see
hmm i dont feel to comfortable gambling too much either way on this, i think calzaghe will probably win, but jones could manage an upset, depends on what the odds are as to wether i put some money on this.
The key word being if Roy can land enough of those snapping right lead and left hook counters Dwyer.
My money's on RJJ in this fight but im just worried his tendancy to lie on the ropes and let the other guy work will be his undoing.
Against Trinidad and Hanshaw Roy took moments on the ropes and doing that against Calzaghe will let him get off those quick, slapping 5 and 6 punch combinations.
I just hope he doesn't do that enough to nick another tight decision like he did against Hopkins.
@TheSugarMan - I agree that Roy needs to keep the fight in the middle of the ring. He can't afford to look like Peter Manfredo did. He needs to use lateral movement to keep the fight in the middle of the ring early. Later - if he builds a sizable lead - he can rest on the ropes, not early on.
ive played the fight out in my head and i too see RJJ getting a decision...but then i keep recalling how Cal came from off the canvas to rally and win a close decision against Bhop...styles do make fights and stylistically RJJ should get tha decision...im gonna agree with u on this on dwyer...thanks for another solid breakdown!
@20aoj - Agreed. Roy's lateral movement will be much more than Hopkins' or Kesslers'. Gamblers seem to be moving to Roy as the line on the fight has dropped considerably. Roy is now a +210 in some books.
I got the pavlik\hopkins fight wrong, predicting a pavlik decision. I also got the kessler\calzaghe fight wrong so what I say must be taken with a pinch (bucket?) of salt.
for what it's worth I see joe winning this fight. I can even see the stoppage happening as roy will be static and try to trade on the outside. joe is better on the inside and has the stamina to go the full 12, where roy won't be as effective. I also think joe is the hungrier fighter.
Dwyer, don't give me this horse-shit. You're an astute guy in boxing but don't try telling me about Joe. Calslappy the rabbit puncher has fought 1 pound for pound fighter in 45 and he got a dodgy gift decision because of his age and fan base. Roy is shot but even a washed up Roy can beat stay-at-home Joe.
Dwyer, I like Jones in this fight but Roy is washed-up. Calzaghe didn;t beat Hopkins, he did what Taylor did, twice, years ago, nothing special. It was a split decision, it could have went to Hopkins but Joe has a bigger fan base and he's younger so more fights left, boxing politics, gift decision. Hopkins clearly won, Joe looked like an amateur! They say Joe landed 250 punches but where are the marks on Hopkins? Calzaghe was all busted up. C'mon Roy!!!
i fink joe throws to many punches but im glad so many ppl finkjones can do it as it makes the fights more interestin great predictoins by the way espicila with the hopkins v pavlik fight nd the cotto magarito great predictions m8 kepp it up!!
If this fight was made 5 years ago it would be a no brainer that Jones would win. Jones has not been the same since coming down from heavyweight but still has too much for Calzaghe IMO. Joe has never faced anyone with Roy's movement and does very well against static fighters.Roy's movement and power are going to give him problems.
Both are very skilled. Jones has great footwork and movement and packs more power. I see the footwork and movement negating Joe's style.Hopkins got very close to winning the fight and Jones is much better than Hopkins that is why I think Roy will win.
@idatomhue - I agree with your analysis. That is exactly how I see it. If Jones is able to hit Joe with power counters, the fight conceivably could be a lopsided affair. Had Mikkel Kessler shown my lateral movement and used his uppercut earlier on, he too would have beaten Joe.
@evil - Jones has more effective power than Lacy because you don't know when the punch is coming. It is the punch you don't see that hurts you the most.
You Dwyer, I'm a Brit & you're an astute guy in boxing but don't give me this rubbish that Calzaghe is a "great" fighter. Sorry, but fighting one pound for pound fighter in 45 and getting a dodgy decision is hardly great. Joe stayed at the weak 168 division when he could've moved up to 175! Hopkins took this guy to school. I hope you're right, I want Roy to beat this punk. Joe is a fraud.
@ sam - I say "great" skillwise. Calzaghe has the fastest hands in boxing. He throws combinations and can aggressively overwhelm sluggers (Lacy) and technicans (Hopkins). He also has stamina and does not fade late in fights. He is a true champion, not a paper tiger.
Oh, you made some valid points about how roy could win... But you forgot one thing, Calzaghe has a pretty tough chin even if he was dropped by Hopkins, Mitchell, and I forget the other guys name... But joe wins fights because his chin is granite. The way to beat someone like Calzaghe is to go to there body, but Calzaghe is so quick that the hardest thing to do is to go to his body. His chin is pretty tough in my opinion though. But I'm also biased since I'm a Calzghe fan.
@quake - Joe is a great fighter. But styles make fights. He is vulnerable to uppercuts. He has been hit hard in recent fights, including the Bika fight where Bika won many late rounds on the judges' cards. He doesn't have to get "stopped" to lose the fight. He can lose by being outhit. Hopkins almost did just that, and lost by split decision. I do expect Roy to land body shots and head shots.
That's just my personal opinion. Yes I am from the UK but I am not biased. I really enjoy watching videos of Jones' past fights, he is a great entertainer but this isn't the Roy Jones Jr of the 90s. I really see Calzaghe winning this one. I wish the best of luck to both men.
the Jones Jr of yester-year would have a great chance of beating Calzaghe ?? LOL....he'd absolutely embarrass Calzaghe ! i havent saw Calzaghe put his hands behind his back, dodge a punch then KO the guy with one right hook. that is a guy who'd beat anyone on their day. Calzaghe is nowhere near a top 20 great, Roy Jones is.
I do believe that Calzaghe is top 20 worthy, the only disappointment is that Calzaghe should have gone to USA in his younger years to prove himself. The KO you're talking about by Jones was quite impressive, but if the fighter he did it to was any good he would have seen it coming and/or took advantage of the situation. I think Joe will win the fight, he adapts and has stamina, in recent interviews Jones has said he feels like hes 26 but has agreed that he fights flat-footed and a lot slower now
@scott - Skillwise, Joe has flaws. He gets hit with uppercuts (see the Kessler fight) and comes in too square with both feet side by side leaving him off balance for a straight right (see the Hopkins fight). His punches lack pop and seem like slaps, even when he has his man pinned (see the Manfredo fight). Handspeed can be neutralized with movement and feints. I expect Jones to keep Joe off balance.
here is some gambling advice for you. DONT PICK THE ODDS PICK THE WINNER.
It dont matter how good the odds are for jones he not going to win so your not going to make money. they could give him odds of a million to 1. i still wouldn't bet jones. PICK THE WINNER NOT THE ODDS
@Zerocoolct, i have to agree with dwyer and everyone has a chance of winning. You should not look at the odds, look at who you think will win the fight. Calzaghe does not have the power to stop Jones or hurt with a single shot, and if Jones forces this fight to be a tactical boxing match, then i see Jones having with way with Joe. Joe should try to punch in volume, and if Jones nullifies that, he will be in big trouble. Hes not matching well on the outside with Roy.
I looked into the way these two guys train before a fight and they run about the same distance, between 5-7 miles a day.Joe runs in the welsh hills, Roy I don't know where.Joe doesn't lift any weights however, in the interest of hand speed apparently, and doesn't spar till 4 weeks from fight time which seems late.
I think the fitness levels will be up there and I think Jones will want to show Bhop he is still fit and quick.I hope both guys turn up in mega shape and make it interesting.
I've talked about this fight with Dwyer via PMs. He is a nice guy who respects everybody's comments. He just says what he is seeing, he has a great record of predictions. I personally think Calzaghe will win this fight too. It's Calzaghe's last fight and he will want to end in style. Everybody knows about his hand troubles, if it goes the distance, about rounds 11 and 12, Calzaghe might try his crazy combinations and want to finish by TKO, his hands won't be a problem if he isn't fighting again.
The Jones Junior of yester-year would have a great chance, he was a force of nature in his prime. However, I think the decisive factor will be Calzaghes stamina and unbelievable work rate, which Jones will be unable to match. I expect Jones to start strong possibly winning a fair few early rounds, then fade. His bad habit of languishing against the ropes will be his undoing, as the volume of punches Calzaghe will STILL be throwing in the closing rounds will start counting. Calzaghe decision.
I'm gonna have to go against you on this one. Calzaghe's body shots are often overlooked, if you watch the Kessler fight you'll see how much Kessler slowed down after taking a few them in the 8th round and I believe Kessler is a far better conditioned fighter than Jones. However Jones is obviously very dangerous but I believe Calzaghe has a good chin and his a ability to throw back in a barrage of punches means he won't be at risk from a TKO. Calzaghe by UD or possibly a late TKO. Your views?
Interesting pick dwyer. I'm gonna think on this one really hard over the next few days, rewatching a lot of their recent fights and il get back to you with a solid prediction!
@jellyboy123 - You may be right. We just call it as we see it and have no agenda other than predicting who has the best chance to win the fight. Our take is Roy Jones has the best chance in this fight.
Hi Mr.Richard Dwyer, first i want to say that I respect your knowledge in the boxing world. On this fight i agree with you 100%, hopefully roy would win it. Saying that, can I just ask how many times did you predict right. Thank you and looking forward for your next videos.
@bocajarro - Agreed. This fight is very close. The key for me will be whether Jones can effectively counter a fighter with Calzaghe's handspeed and movement. If Jones starts landing counter left hooks, this could end up being a mismatch.
I have $385 on Jones with the upset. If I win, then I win $1,000. Specifically for the reasons you stated. Jones is in his comfort zone (Madison Sqaure) with a stronger home crowd than Joe's traveling crowd. Plus Jones still possesses superior hand speed, is a stronger counter puncher (Joe may run into Jones' punch like he did first round againt B-Hop). Jones does his best when he is out to 'prove' everyone wrong. Should be a great fight. Jones by UD with possible Clinton Woods-Style stoppage.
You mention that it would be unlikely for Calzaghe to take advantage of Jones's weak chin, but Joe doesn't have to and will not even bother with that, Joe goes for decision wins. I see Joe outworking Jones easily for a decision win.
joe has a weak chin to bro b hop drop him in what 30 sec in roun 1 . jones has a lot more speed then b hop , power . is the battle of the chins. im not a fan of jones joe should be figthing kelly pavlik or dowson or miranda .
i think calzaghe will out work and outbox jones for the first half of the fight and then knock him out in the later rounds probably about round 9 or 10 .
@paulas1976 - That could happen. Another scenario is that Roy lands the harder shots taking the steam out of Joe for a decision in which Roy dominates the later rounds. The first 8 rounds of the Hopkins fight are the blueprint.
@236 - I agree that Calzaghe is better conditioned. But at this stage of their careers, Roy hits much harder. I would not be surprised if Calzaghe gets dropped. He barely beat Hopkins, who isn't as good as Roy.
I also respect your calls and record as it seems you are on most of the time. Who wins JC/Jones holds a big stick, money wise and also alot what happens after. Roy Jones knows this and Joe does. Both want this fight badly.
I also feel in the Pavlik/Hop fight someone is getting ko'ed or tko'ed. Something i feel we will see dwyer that you haven't seen, is Hop frustrated & opening his defense up more trying to get to Kelly. Wanting Kp to come in & leaving himself open to get what he wants.
I know dwyer i am going against the odds. I feel Jones will be busier and faster than Hop. He won't respect Calzaghe's power and will throw hard and fast combo's early. He knows he is older and will want to get Joe out early. I feel he will do this. If he hurt's Joe, he will finish the job. I realize i am going against the odds. Same with Pavlik but i feel Pavlik hurts when he hits you and throws alot. I just feel the ref will stop the fight in this and i am calling the 6th by tko.
@ KYLake - Regarding Pavlik, don't be surprised if he gets exposed in the fight. Punchers (Sonny Liston, Julian Jackson) look good until you keep them in the middle of the ring, circle, and force them to box. Many can't. Pavlik appears to be a one handed fighter with a ponderous jab and average handspeed. I believe that Bob Arum is thinking payday, major learning experience and later fight against Arthur Abraham. The Hopkins fight is not for a title and looks like a "get experience" bout.
I am going with Jones with a ko in the 5th round. I have also picked Pavlik over Hopkins by tko in the 6th.
Instead of Calzaghe/Pavlik ever, Joe will probably retire after this loss and it will be a Jones/Pavlik fight at some point and you have to take your hat off to Jones to put himself in that position.
@ KYLake - You've called your shot. Note that Jones hasn't knocked anyone out as early as 5 for several years. Joe has never been stopped. Nor has Bernard Hopkins. You're fighting history. As for Pavlik, he hasn't stopped anyone at 168 or 170. That betting line is overinflated.

Calzaghe needs to fight Dawson, Pavlik, and Froch, in that order
NicheUmar 3 years ago
I think Calzaghe will school Dawson, Lacy style. He should really have a British showdown with Froch as his last fight. Whichever fight he takes, he should destroy the unbeaten prospect, will make his status much better.
namsu664 3 years ago 2

Two weight difference. It would make more sense fighting VK. Both are stupid and remotely possible ideas, anyhow

Jones Jr. was able to defeat Ruiz you wonder if Calzaghe could do the same. The would never sell. It is not a fight I am suggesting.

I know noone forced me to bet, but how wrong was I. It was 50/50, depending on which Roy Jones turned up. If was the jones in his prime Joe had no chance, i thought he might roll the years back one last time....
kuz4real 3 years ago
Cock. Roy can't fight under pressure, so when roy was in his prime he would still win but it wouldn't be KO.
bzqtmg 3 years ago
Jones had'nt been convincing fighting blown up Tito Trinidad, It would have been closer years ago.
SOUPRUN01 3 years ago
cal was tha younger man in that ring saturday night...that was tha difference...rjj wasnt physically able to match cals speed and it showed...had rjj and cal fought in their primes there should be no dispute that he would have turned cal into a bloody mess and knocked him out.

jones at one time was an incredible fighter. fast as hell, power, never liked to get hit amazingly talented. unfortunately, those days are gone. only thing roy should ponder re. his future in the ring is to not do it anymore. all these haters bashing him and the US need to realize roy isn't anywhere close skill wise to what he was. not saying anything negative about calzaghe. would he have beaten jones in his prime we'll never know. he didn't fight a jones anywhere near his prime

Sorry to bash you but it's true.
sonnyplaysacoustic 3 years ago
Let's not get nasty. Before the fight I had already said this. Number one, as far as betting fighting goes, never bet on a fighter who is past is prime, especially against a young fighter (this is a given). Number two, while Dwayer may be right sometimes, you cannot say Roy Jones has too much power, but in the same sentence say that he thinks it will go the distance. If it was going to go the distance, everyone knew it would be Calzaghe taking this thing because he would throw way more punches.

Ryno112 3 years ago
Haha, I love all this dumb bashing. Lets be honest in 95% of fights anyone COULD win and Jones showed that in the 1st with the knockdown but Joe's still numero uno I'm afraid. But people have to realise this guy knows what hes talking about hes not just some bandwagon fan like most of us.

LordMinge 3 years ago
Anyone who bashes dwyer is foolish to do so. He said Calzaghe was a great fighter, but he thought Roy Jones had the tools to beat him, and gave good reasons for thinking so. He was wrong, no one is perfect. British fans need to stop being so defensive every time someone picks against Calzaghe--he's great, but he is human and can be beaten, just like every other fighter in history.
KLC899 3 years ago

His other predictions are very, very accurate.

samuksa, you have no idea about boxing.
Zaghe called Jones Jr out years ago but RJJ turned him down because Zaghe was "too dangerous of an opponent"
NicWelsh 3 years ago
I do have an idea what I'm talking about. Stay-at-home Joe stayed in Europe and waited NINE years to fight Lacy and Kessler. HELLO? That was 2 years ago and now he is a legend? Haha. Why would Roy want Joe? Why would Mayweather have wanted Hatton? It's the other way - if you want the best then you go to the best.

Dwyer knows his boxing, I think every single one of his predictions has been right! I will pray to the Lord, Jesus Christ, that Roy Jones Jr. wins this fight. God Bless America & McCain.
samuksam 3 years ago
And Trinidad was washed up and small. Jones should have took his head off in the first round. Joe Calzaghe doesn't need the "power" to knock out jones. This will be a boxing match. Joe is much younger, in much better shape and has to win this match. Roy Jones is taking the fight for money. If you don't believe it will be a stopage why focus so much on power? You are exactly right, it won't be. Going off of what Jones says pre-fight is pretty ludacris imo. Put your money on Joe.
sonnyplaysacoustic 3 years ago
I agree with the below poster. Power does not decide this fight when the man is old. People keep naming the list of opponents jones has fought. Do you know how long ago that was? Do you know how past his prime he is now? If you even watched the end of the fight hopkins/pavlik you will see 5 fights listed (old fighters upsetting new upcoming stars). This is the exception rather than the rule. It IS rare and it WAS a big deal when hopkins schooled pavlik. Never go with a fighter past his prime.
sonnyplaysacoustic 3 years ago 2
I diagree with this video.
I think Calzaghe will win convincingly.
Calzaghe has an absolutely granite chin -it's oftern overlooked, but probably his single best attribute. Furthermore he applies constant pressure and won't let Jones set and throw big punches. Jones has fought better fighters but none that fight like Calzaghe.

ryanrourke21 3 years ago
dwyer70905 - you are clueless. Who has the most power is a silly way to gauge the outcome of this fight. Very silly in fact. Calzaghe has had no real punching power since he passed 30. His boxing skills and adaptability are second to none however and he will outbox Jones Jr from round 3/4 onwards and take a points win.
SuivaLoom 3 years ago
A couple of things that might favour Joe. First, the Hopkins match could be seen as the perfect "warm up" fight for this fight; secondly, if this is indeed Joe's last fight, then he might not favour his fragile hands and really - towards the end of the fight - start hitting harder than usual.
musik102 3 years ago
Of course, the Hopkins match in many ways was a great "warm-up!" fight for this fight. Joe will have learned a lot from that fight.
musik102 3 years ago
Hope this guy is right, I hope for the upset too.
bobbyfellon 3 years ago
You can't really call it a renaissance. He beat boxers who no ones ever heard of. Then he won a fight against a blown up Trainidad who hadn't boxed processionally for 3 years. He floored Tito twice, but never seemed to hurt him. Calzaghe is easily bigger, faster and stronger than Traindad. He also has a much higher work rate than Jones. Jones is going to really struggle to win a round in this fight I feel. Calzaghe by decision or late KO.
bzqtmg 3 years ago
I respect the under dog predictions you have made recently, Hopkins and Margarito, but i feel you've got this one wrong. You explained how Hopkins and Margarito were going to win, but on a power advantage? Maybe if you could explain how Jones is going to out box Calzaghe, which is what he going to have to do.
bzqtmg 3 years ago
Calzaghe's 15-year winning streak consists of one guy I've heard of - Hopkins - and 44 guys who would go unrecognized in their own living rooms.
samuksam 3 years ago
That's ignorant. Calzaghe has never backed down against anyone. It's true Pavlik wanted to fight him, but Calzaghe wanted the bigger and harder fight with Jones and everybody thought he took the easier route until Hopkins totally dominated Pavlik and all of a sudden Pavlik has gone from 'prime 26 year old gifted fighter that will dominate Calzaghe' to 'young hyped up boxer exposed'. It's true he should have gone to USA earlier, but Calzaghe is so underrated it's untrue.
john6times 3 years ago 2
You clearly don't know anything about boxing at all.
bzqtmg 3 years ago
Trust me, Calzaghe will want to go out in style. Check out the public training sessions, I haven't seen Calzaghe hit the pads this hard for some years now. He usually worries about his hand injuries from the past. It looks like he means business against Jones. Check out the FightHype channel on YouTube for those videos. No disrespect Dwyer, you know I like you, but I cannot see Jones pulling this one off. You really need to see those videos! Have a nice day my friend.

percybdockery 3 years ago
Hey, I like to hear all sides of the story, but what I am trying to say is, Jones is no where near his prime where he looked invincible. Calzaghe is just past his prime. I know he hasn't fought the best names but that is because he didn't get the chances really. I also understand pads don't hit back, but what I am trying to say is, usually Joe hits them lightly just as he usually hits lightly in the ring but makes up with speed. He might take hard punching in to the fight. Anyone can win tbh :x
john6times 3 years ago
Dwyer, Jones is unlikely to take Calzaghe out, right? On effective punching alone, he might do better than Calzaghe and Calzaghe doesn't have the power to KO Jones, but he has the speed, angles, footwork and extremely high workrate to tire Jones out and win by 2-3rounds, no? Jones doesn't have Hopkins' defence/ring generalship, and he doesn't have the reflexes to avoid Calzaghe's flurries either...Calzaghe will be on top of him with no rest all night! Thanks!

as much as i respect your pro analysis im going with Calzaghe to win this fight.
i wont be surprised if i was wrong. you do know what your doing and your record proves that.
thanks again for yet another great analysis.
236 3 years ago
The key word being if Roy can land enough of those snapping right lead and left hook counters Dwyer.
My money's on RJJ in this fight but im just worried his tendancy to lie on the ropes and let the other guy work will be his undoing.
Against Trinidad and Hanshaw Roy took moments on the ropes and doing that against Calzaghe will let him get off those quick, slapping 5 and 6 punch combinations.
I just hope he doesn't do that enough to nick another tight decision like he did against Hopkins.
TheSugarMan 3 years ago
@TheSugarMan - I agree that Roy needs to keep the fight in the middle of the ring. He can't afford to look like Peter Manfredo did. He needs to use lateral movement to keep the fight in the middle of the ring early. Later - if he builds a sizable lead - he can rest on the ropes, not early on.
dwyer70905 3 years ago
ive played the fight out in my head and i too see RJJ getting a decision...but then i keep recalling how Cal came from off the canvas to rally and win a close decision against Bhop...styles do make fights and stylistically RJJ should get tha decision...im gonna agree with u on this on dwyer...thanks for another solid breakdown!
RAWDOGG69 3 years ago
You can't hit what you can't see...Roy should win if he is in shape.
2Oaoj 3 years ago
@20aoj - Agreed. Roy's lateral movement will be much more than Hopkins' or Kesslers'. Gamblers seem to be moving to Roy as the line on the fight has dropped considerably. Roy is now a +210 in some books.
dwyer70905 3 years ago
I got the pavlik\hopkins fight wrong, predicting a pavlik decision. I also got the kessler\calzaghe fight wrong so what I say must be taken with a pinch (bucket?) of salt.
for what it's worth I see joe winning this fight. I can even see the stoppage happening as roy will be static and try to trade on the outside. joe is better on the inside and has the stamina to go the full 12, where roy won't be as effective. I also think joe is the hungrier fighter.
hume12345 3 years ago
Dwyer, don't give me this horse-shit. You're an astute guy in boxing but don't try telling me about Joe. Calslappy the rabbit puncher has fought 1 pound for pound fighter in 45 and he got a dodgy gift decision because of his age and fan base. Roy is shot but even a washed up Roy can beat stay-at-home Joe.
samuksam 3 years ago
@samuksam - I'm taking Jones in the fight. But Calzaghe did beat Hopkins in his last fight and clearly is an elite fighter.
dwyer70905 3 years ago
Dwyer, I like Jones in this fight but Roy is washed-up. Calzaghe didn;t beat Hopkins, he did what Taylor did, twice, years ago, nothing special. It was a split decision, it could have went to Hopkins but Joe has a bigger fan base and he's younger so more fights left, boxing politics, gift decision. Hopkins clearly won, Joe looked like an amateur! They say Joe landed 250 punches but where are the marks on Hopkins? Calzaghe was all busted up. C'mon Roy!!!
samuksam 3 years ago
i fink joe throws to many punches but im glad so many ppl finkjones can do it as it makes the fights more interestin great predictoins by the way espicila with the hopkins v pavlik fight nd the cotto magarito great predictions m8 kepp it up!!
charliewgooner 3 years ago
If this fight was made 5 years ago it would be a no brainer that Jones would win. Jones has not been the same since coming down from heavyweight but still has too much for Calzaghe IMO. Joe has never faced anyone with Roy's movement and does very well against static fighters.Roy's movement and power are going to give him problems.
idatomhue 3 years ago
calzaghe is going to ko roy jones
pachin2000 3 years ago
Both are very skilled. Jones has great footwork and movement and packs more power. I see the footwork and movement negating Joe's style.Hopkins got very close to winning the fight and Jones is much better than Hopkins that is why I think Roy will win.
idatomhue 3 years ago
@idatomhue - I agree with your analysis. That is exactly how I see it. If Jones is able to hit Joe with power counters, the fight conceivably could be a lopsided affair. Had Mikkel Kessler shown my lateral movement and used his uppercut earlier on, he too would have beaten Joe.
dwyer70905 3 years ago
Lacey had more power...
evilmickey 3 years ago
@evil - Jones has more effective power than Lacy because you don't know when the punch is coming. It is the punch you don't see that hurts you the most.
dwyer70905 3 years ago
Yeah...I wrote that without really listening to the video :L
I thought he ment somthing els :P
evilmickey 3 years ago
You Dwyer, I'm a Brit & you're an astute guy in boxing but don't give me this rubbish that Calzaghe is a "great" fighter. Sorry, but fighting one pound for pound fighter in 45 and getting a dodgy decision is hardly great. Joe stayed at the weak 168 division when he could've moved up to 175! Hopkins took this guy to school. I hope you're right, I want Roy to beat this punk. Joe is a fraud.
samuksam 3 years ago
@ sam - I say "great" skillwise. Calzaghe has the fastest hands in boxing. He throws combinations and can aggressively overwhelm sluggers (Lacy) and technicans (Hopkins). He also has stamina and does not fade late in fights. He is a true champion, not a paper tiger.
dwyer70905 3 years ago
Oh, you made some valid points about how roy could win... But you forgot one thing, Calzaghe has a pretty tough chin even if he was dropped by Hopkins, Mitchell, and I forget the other guys name... But joe wins fights because his chin is granite. The way to beat someone like Calzaghe is to go to there body, but Calzaghe is so quick that the hardest thing to do is to go to his body. His chin is pretty tough in my opinion though. But I'm also biased since I'm a Calzghe fan.
quake4soldier 3 years ago
@quake - Joe is a great fighter. But styles make fights. He is vulnerable to uppercuts. He has been hit hard in recent fights, including the Bika fight where Bika won many late rounds on the judges' cards. He doesn't have to get "stopped" to lose the fight. He can lose by being outhit. Hopkins almost did just that, and lost by split decision. I do expect Roy to land body shots and head shots.
dwyer70905 3 years ago
your prediction is so wrong!
quake4soldier 3 years ago
That's just my personal opinion. Yes I am from the UK but I am not biased. I really enjoy watching videos of Jones' past fights, he is a great entertainer but this isn't the Roy Jones Jr of the 90s. I really see Calzaghe winning this one. I wish the best of luck to both men.
john6times 3 years ago
the Jones Jr of yester-year would have a great chance of beating Calzaghe ?? LOL....he'd absolutely embarrass Calzaghe ! i havent saw Calzaghe put his hands behind his back, dodge a punch then KO the guy with one right hook. that is a guy who'd beat anyone on their day. Calzaghe is nowhere near a top 20 great, Roy Jones is.
scottmc316 3 years ago
I do believe that Calzaghe is top 20 worthy, the only disappointment is that Calzaghe should have gone to USA in his younger years to prove himself. The KO you're talking about by Jones was quite impressive, but if the fighter he did it to was any good he would have seen it coming and/or took advantage of the situation. I think Joe will win the fight, he adapts and has stamina, in recent interviews Jones has said he feels like hes 26 but has agreed that he fights flat-footed and a lot slower now
john6times 3 years ago
@scott - Skillwise, Joe has flaws. He gets hit with uppercuts (see the Kessler fight) and comes in too square with both feet side by side leaving him off balance for a straight right (see the Hopkins fight). His punches lack pop and seem like slaps, even when he has his man pinned (see the Manfredo fight). Handspeed can be neutralized with movement and feints. I expect Jones to keep Joe off balance.
dwyer70905 3 years ago
here is some gambling advice for you. DONT PICK THE ODDS PICK THE WINNER.
It dont matter how good the odds are for jones he not going to win so your not going to make money. they could give him odds of a million to 1. i still wouldn't bet jones. PICK THE WINNER NOT THE ODDS
zerocoolct 3 years ago
@Zerocoolct, i have to agree with dwyer and everyone has a chance of winning. You should not look at the odds, look at who you think will win the fight. Calzaghe does not have the power to stop Jones or hurt with a single shot, and if Jones forces this fight to be a tactical boxing match, then i see Jones having with way with Joe. Joe should try to punch in volume, and if Jones nullifies that, he will be in big trouble. Hes not matching well on the outside with Roy.
slicksouthpaw16 3 years ago
Roy´s win is being paying 3/1.
I think it´s time to bet on Roy for making money in this one
bocajarro 3 years ago
I looked into the way these two guys train before a fight and they run about the same distance, between 5-7 miles a day.Joe runs in the welsh hills, Roy I don't know where.Joe doesn't lift any weights however, in the interest of hand speed apparently, and doesn't spar till 4 weeks from fight time which seems late.
I think the fitness levels will be up there and I think Jones will want to show Bhop he is still fit and quick.I hope both guys turn up in mega shape and make it interesting.
superdonyoungy 3 years ago
Great insight! This is going to be a good fight. I think Roy is indeed getting himself back but it's going to be tough.
tentwo70 3 years ago
I've talked about this fight with Dwyer via PMs. He is a nice guy who respects everybody's comments. He just says what he is seeing, he has a great record of predictions. I personally think Calzaghe will win this fight too. It's Calzaghe's last fight and he will want to end in style. Everybody knows about his hand troubles, if it goes the distance, about rounds 11 and 12, Calzaghe might try his crazy combinations and want to finish by TKO, his hands won't be a problem if he isn't fighting again.
john6times 3 years ago
really like these videos...you make convincing, well thought out arguments. I'm popping a couple of quid on Jones. Let's see :)
HitMeQuick 3 years ago
The Jones Junior of yester-year would have a great chance, he was a force of nature in his prime. However, I think the decisive factor will be Calzaghes stamina and unbelievable work rate, which Jones will be unable to match. I expect Jones to start strong possibly winning a fair few early rounds, then fade. His bad habit of languishing against the ropes will be his undoing, as the volume of punches Calzaghe will STILL be throwing in the closing rounds will start counting. Calzaghe decision.
Monkfish05 3 years ago
@ Rooney - In Jones' last fight, he dropped Felix Trinidad twice. He has power.

I will be recording your prediction from now on so that you cant delete them if you got the wrong prediction. LOL Jones will definitely floored.

I'm gonna think on this one really hard over the next few days, rewatching a lot of their recent fights and il get back to you with a solid prediction!

i really can't see roy jones winning the fight, sorry dude i'm going for joe on this one.
jellyboy123 3 years ago
@jellyboy123 - You may be right. We just call it as we see it and have no agenda other than predicting who has the best chance to win the fight. Our take is Roy Jones has the best chance in this fight.
dwyer70905 3 years ago
you guys are the only people picking jones. calazaghe will win this im guessing your american because americans are all picking jones
after the fight please come back to me and say i was wrong i know nothing about boxing
scyth20 3 years ago
Hi Mr.Richard Dwyer, first i want to say that I respect your knowledge in the boxing world. On this fight i agree with you 100%, hopefully roy would win it. Saying that, can I just ask how many times did you predict right. Thank you and looking forward for your next videos.

I'll take Jones too. Has Calzaghe ever fought anyone as fast? No one that he fought recently.

I´ve been check all your predictions and you seldom fail.
I think this will be a very close fight but I agree with you,Jones will take the desicion...
bocajarro 3 years ago
@bocajarro - Agreed. This fight is very close. The key for me will be whether Jones can effectively counter a fighter with Calzaghe's handspeed and movement. If Jones starts landing counter left hooks, this could end up being a mismatch.

dwyer70905 always makes some valid points. and since most of his predictions are accurate , what he's saying in this video doesn't seem far fetched.

Machiavelli1513 3 years ago
You mention that it would be unlikely for Calzaghe to take advantage of Jones's weak chin, but Joe doesn't have to and will not even bother with that, Joe goes for decision wins. I see Joe outworking Jones easily for a decision win.
LetoAtreides82 3 years ago
Joe will beat Roy trust me, do you know the history of Joe.
remember that Joe have beat harder boxers than Roy.
plus Joe is a tuff boxer not a show man like Roy.
Roy is living on his past glory
Joe can go the distance, Roy have got stamina issues
Roy is older also roy have lost 3 fights joe have lost 0 fights
jellyboy123 3 years ago
joe has a weak chin to bro b hop drop him in what 30 sec in roun 1 . jones has a lot more speed then b hop , power . is the battle of the chins. im not a fan of jones joe should be figthing kelly pavlik or dowson or miranda .

fuck calzaghes history
Kwab20 3 years ago
i think calzaghe will out work and outbox jones for the first half of the fight and then knock him out in the later rounds probably about round 9 or 10 .
paulas1976 3 years ago
@paulas1976 - That could happen. Another scenario is that Roy lands the harder shots taking the steam out of Joe for a decision in which Roy dominates the later rounds. The first 8 rounds of the Hopkins fight are the blueprint.
dwyer70905 3 years ago
as much as i respect your analysis i will have my money on Calzaghe to win the fight.
Jones seems to show stamina issues and he needs activity to beat Calzaghe who will also be active and outpointing.
In the past years againg active throwing opponents roy seems to go into his hands up heads down lay on the ropes mode.
in my opinion roy doesnt have the stamina he used to have to keep this fight in the middle of the ring long enough to win the fight.
236 3 years ago
@236 - I agree that Calzaghe is better conditioned. But at this stage of their careers, Roy hits much harder. I would not be surprised if Calzaghe gets dropped. He barely beat Hopkins, who isn't as good as Roy.
dwyer70905 3 years ago
I also respect your calls and record as it seems you are on most of the time. Who wins JC/Jones holds a big stick, money wise and also alot what happens after. Roy Jones knows this and Joe does. Both want this fight badly.
I also feel in the Pavlik/Hop fight someone is getting ko'ed or tko'ed. Something i feel we will see dwyer that you haven't seen, is Hop frustrated & opening his defense up more trying to get to Kelly. Wanting Kp to come in & leaving himself open to get what he wants.
KYLake 3 years ago
I know dwyer i am going against the odds. I feel Jones will be busier and faster than Hop. He won't respect Calzaghe's power and will throw hard and fast combo's early. He knows he is older and will want to get Joe out early. I feel he will do this. If he hurt's Joe, he will finish the job. I realize i am going against the odds. Same with Pavlik but i feel Pavlik hurts when he hits you and throws alot. I just feel the ref will stop the fight in this and i am calling the 6th by tko.
KYLake 3 years ago
@ KYLake - Regarding Pavlik, don't be surprised if he gets exposed in the fight. Punchers (Sonny Liston, Julian Jackson) look good until you keep them in the middle of the ring, circle, and force them to box. Many can't. Pavlik appears to be a one handed fighter with a ponderous jab and average handspeed. I believe that Bob Arum is thinking payday, major learning experience and later fight against Arthur Abraham. The Hopkins fight is not for a title and looks like a "get experience" bout.
dwyer70905 3 years ago
I am going with Jones with a ko in the 5th round. I have also picked Pavlik over Hopkins by tko in the 6th.
Instead of Calzaghe/Pavlik ever, Joe will probably retire after this loss and it will be a Jones/Pavlik fight at some point and you have to take your hat off to Jones to put himself in that position.
KYLake 3 years ago
@ KYLake - You've called your shot. Note that Jones hasn't knocked anyone out as early as 5 for several years. Joe has never been stopped. Nor has Bernard Hopkins. You're fighting history. As for Pavlik, he hasn't stopped anyone at 168 or 170. That betting line is overinflated.
