The Soviet V-12 Diesal ( arguably) the best armored vehicle engine of the second WW. The combat ability of an armored force is not a direct function of a one on one match up between tanks. The Soviet use of one standard engine and one standard gun on their two main battle tanks the T-34 and KV simplified repair and maintenence. Even the U.S. was unable to produce one engine in sufficent quantity for all its M-4's. The German's had a multiplicity of Chassis, engines and tracks to maintain.
@soverato3 maybe in war two but in todays world it is out classed , just like in world war two the best is german tanks the krupp co makes the 120 mm found our m-1 tanks today .

@soverato3 do u know if theres a vid of 1 warmed up and revving higher(hardly seemed to rev it) compared to a vid i just watched on the tiger which revved much higher and surprised me with how quick it span up too? (pumping black smoke) cheers
@soverato3 If like communist so well you aways go to china ,n-korea , communist are assholes we should not never gave them them the eastern block. the ussr was so week after germanys surrender that general patton wanted to go in and kick there commie asses out of there but the pussy s in washiton wouldn't let him WE SHOULD HAVE NUKE THEM BACK TO STONE AGES .
@troyweeseful hahah thats funny you prove you're just an dumb kid... 80%of the nazi losses were at the east front the united states had no hard time whatsoever.. the only did a little in the very tip of the west and a small island called japan.. those nukes where just a crime agains humanity.. the USSR had the power to defeat the nazi's a a difficult time and it only made them stronger! the ussr had the biggest army, most space triumph's and most ICBM's and also the biggest bomb ever! (TJAR)50MT
@troyweeseful The red army at the end of world war two was not weak my friend, it was in fact the most powerful army in the world. it had 6.2 million frontline troops, over 12,000 tanks, 112,000 artillery pieces(more than the rest of the world combined) and about 15,000 aircraft, not to mention huge amounts of food and material. Patton wanted to attack soviet union, but he would have been for a nasty shock. fortunately this never happened.
Put a load on it is that shaft just running free? Most engines don,t like to idle i would think even when there standing still they have a flywheel just a thought.
Looks like a derivative of the V-2 tank diesel which started life in the early 1930s. Depending on what machine these are used the actual horsepower is anywhere between 330 (de-forced, heavy artillery tractors like AT-T where endurance and torque matter most) to 500-580 (JS-2, Т-55АМ) with NO superchargers. They were also used on railroad - various locomotives, small ships, etc. As someone pointed earlier on this might be a civil version - 1D12.
@pgp000 Yep, Russian twin-cam 48 valve V12 diesel... Some source said it was developed from german engine thought I can't confirm it; however the predecessor T-28's M-17 was clearly a copy of a BMW powerplant.
I belive that this is the same engine that the company "Wola" still manufactures today. If i'm right its a 38 litre v12 with 4 valves per cyl. and made from alumium and produced ~450-500hp in the 1940's and up to 1000hp in the last versions. Commonly seen in small ships from the 60-70's.
@wwaallee1 They even claim over 1000hp on some engines, that they make for their tanks, apparently they use some kind of turbo and supercharging on them,i didnt really understand the concept of that, but i am sure that the claimed power is there as russians are always so shy about their engines power capabilities.
Hi this is a great video is that an air tank connected to the engine is that used to start the engine I think it is amazing that the trailer is mot jumping around
@tpvalley nothing specific, but it seems to be leaking oil excessively. I know they all leak some, but this seems to be blowing out more than it should around one of the head gaskets. I've also got an oil pressure gauge that doesn't read reliably, so it would be nice to have a real mechanic look at it
@diggervet you would have to see if one of the head oil galleries runs by where the gasket is leaking. perhaps the gasket is starting to break down. For the oil pressure gauge, is it mechanical, if so trace the feed line and make sure it's not cripmed some where..
@KapteinOpel Thanks for letting me know. I never even thought of that! I suppose the V12 gets its ballance due to the varying arranged mass of the crankshaft webs.
@1100HondaCB Thats where any engine gets its balance. The flywheel provides inertia to keep pace between the power strokes, but a V12 has so many of them per revolution that it runs smooth anyway.

@steamwally It must have a flywheel in order to run. It's located inside the bell housing on the right hand side.
1100HondaCB 5 months ago
Well thats what I thought, but couldnt see it.
steamwally 5 months ago
@1100HondaCB Actually a V12 doesnt need a flywheel to run, even a V8 runs smooth at idle without it. Yes ive tried. ;)
KapteinOpel 5 months ago
@KapteinOpel Thanks for letting me know. I never even thought of that! I suppose the V12 gets its ballance due to the varying arranged mass of the crankshaft webs.
1100HondaCB 5 months ago
@1100HondaCB Thats where any engine gets its balance. The flywheel provides inertia to keep pace between the power strokes, but a V12 has so many of them per revolution that it runs smooth anyway.
